MLS TV schedule

The MLS TV schedule for the 2022 season is set in stone, with anticipation growing for a great year.

In 2022, newcomers Charlotte FC join the previous 27 clubs in Major League Soccer. New York City FC looks to hold their position as MLS Cup Winners from the previous season. Also, a number of great young players like Ricardo Pepi, Daryl Dike and James Sands build on their potential.

The 2022 MLS season kicks off on Saturday, February 26. This is the earliest start to an MLS TV schedule in history because of the 2022 World Cup scheduled for November and December. Traditionally, MLS Cup Playoffs take place in November into December, but the World Cup takes precedence. Each team will play a 34-game regular season, with 17 games at home and 17 on the road. There are some exceptions to that with some special games scheduled, but we will get to that below.

All times Eastern.

MLS Decision Day, the regular season finale, is on Sunday, October 9. Then, the three-week playoffs conclude with the 2022 MLS Cup on Saturday, November 5. This allows over two weeks for any international players to re-acclimate themselves with their national teams ahead of the World Cup. the 2021 season began on Friday, April 16 and will feature 34 matches for each of the league’s 27 clubs. MLS’ 26th regular season will conclude on MLS Decision Day, November 7, and the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs will begin November 19. MLS Cup will be played on Saturday, December 11.

In addition to Charlotte FC joining the league, Nashville SC will debut a soccer-specific stadium in May.

Special Games

Throughout the 2022 MLS season, there will be a number of instances of games that will have fans interested. First off, 18 teams partake in ‘MLS is Back’, the opening day of fixtures in the league. The following Sunday, defending champions NYCFC take on the most successful club in MLS history, Los Angeles Galaxy.

Charlotte FC makes its home debut the following weekend against LA Galaxy at Bank of America Stadium. Also, as stated previously, the league breaks in Nashville SC Stadium, the 30,000-seat facility against the Philadelphia Union.

Heineken Rivalry Week, which always produces great games, features 11 games in 10 days. From July 8 to July 17, notable games include the Philadelphia Union vs. D.C. United, the Columbus Crew hosting Cincinnati, the Cascadia Derby involving Seattle and Portland and, of course, El Tráfico between LA Galaxy and LAFC.

Following a two-year hiatus, the California Clásico between San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy returns. This game, taking place in the heart of California at Stanford Stadium, is on June 25.

MLS TV Schedule of Channels

MLS games are televised across FOX Sports (FS1 or FOX), ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN+, ESPN Deportes, Univision and UniMás. Many English-language MLS games are not available on national TV, but are instead shown on local TV networks (where available) or ESPN+ (paid subscription service; $6.99 per month or $69.99 annually).

For the 2022 season, a record-number of games will air on network television. There will be 48 games across ABC, FOX, Univision and UniMás. Additionally, even more games will be on designated sports networks like ESPN or FS1.

Breaking it down, ABC will carry ten games on its channel, totaling with 34 across ABC, ESPN and ESPN2, which will also be available on ESPN Deportes. There will be seven games on FOX, but that means 27 more on FS1. All 34 of those contests will air in Spanish on FOX Deportes. Thirty-two more games will be in Spanish on Univision and UniMás.

Dalton, have you noticed that WST makes it much easier to find the Spanish and Italian leagues then it does the MLS. Even thought less people watch those leagues!

It would help if MLS teams didn’t keep on changing their flipping schedule of games. At least the Spanish and Italian leagues stick to their schedules.

Could the MLS head to NBC, CBS, and Telemundo? I feel like NBC wants to get the MLS so that the EPL and MLS are together on the same channel.

I just watched Inter Miami-CF Montreal on ESPN+. Didn’t realize that Ray Hudson was Miami’s color commentator. Interesting since he also did the Atletico vs Sociedad match on beIN Sports about an hour and a half earlier.

@turfit Very cool! I like how Liga MX have their home games at specific times each week. I wish MLS could figure out some sort of regularity in their scheduling.

@Karl, I started watching soccer when my kids were very young and my wife signed them up for youth soccer. We did not have cable tv but I was able to watch Liga MX over the antenna and I loved watching UNAM Pumas play their home games at Noon on Sunday afternoons. To this day they are one of my favorite teams.

Hey sports, what time do your nationally televised games start?
NFL: Thursday, Sunday, or Monday around 830. All other games Sunday afternoon.
College Football: Saturday at 12pm ET, 330 ET, or 8pm ET
NBA: Probably 7pm or 8pm ET
MLB: Probably 7pm or 8pm ET
MLS: Who Knows!?! Also, why won’t people tune into our national TV games?

Where can I find the stream for the CONCACAF Champions League draw tonight?

    • Christopher Harris

      February 10, 2021 at 12:01 pm

TUDN and FOX Sports are supposed to show it live, but I’m not seeing any listings for it and they haven’t revealed where the draw will be shown (which channel or streaming platform).

I know this has been happening for a while, but what is MLS’s justification for blackout out match when in-person attendance isn’t a serious option? As a Colorado resident, all my Rapids games are blacked out (unless they are, heh, on a network). What, does MLS want me to become an SLC supporter, or just say forget about MLS, I’ll just watch European leagues?

Can someone provides a reasonable answer to a reasonable question? Why is there a need to mix a sport, such as soccer to a sociopolitical issue? Any sports is predicated on the the concept of sportsmanship. When you enter politics and religion, you are exiting the foundation of a sport. What am I missing?

The MLSIB tournament schedule is now out, but nowhere on the MLS site does it say if the hated ESPN blackout policy will be in effect during the tournament. Does anyone know if matches will be blacked out geographically during the tournament broadcasts?

    • Jared

      June 24, 2020 at 6:18 pm

I believe all matches will be national (no regional broadcasts), therefore no blackouts.

    June 24, 2020 at 6:01 pm

MLS’s website says that the non-english tv games will stream on Twitter. Is that correct?

    • Christopher Harris

Hopefully next week. MLS and the TV companies are still debating which games to stage at what times.

I’m considering getting a streaming service. A primary factor in my decision making will be getting one that’ll have MLS Direct Kick available. My zip code is 75088, which services in my area , other than DirectTV, provide MLS Direct Kick.

For the MLS cup knockout rounds, do we know if East 3 vs 6 is scheduled for Wednesday 28 or Thursday 29 ?
Same question for East 4 vs 5.

    • OT

      October 22, 2015 at 11:52 am

MLS will slot the knockout round matches based on geography (i.e. matches in the Pacific Time Zone will obviously get the late time slots) and TV network preference on the evening of Sunday October 25.

        October 22, 2015 at 1:31 pm

Makes sense … so one East game on each Day.
Montréal sports networks may want to avoid thursday as there is hockey between MTL and EDM.
