The first leg of the Liga MX playoff between Chivas and Club América last Thursday was the most-viewed club soccer match in US cable history.
The match was televised live on Univision Deportes to an audience of 1.4 million total viewers. The 0-0 draw was also delivered the most streams and minutes watched of any Liga MX game in Univision history, for the regular season or playoffs.
The second leg, which Club América won 2-1 against Chivas, was watched by 2.7 million total viewers on Sunday night, which aired on Univision and was simulcast on Univision Deportes. The viewership was the best for any Liga MX playoff match since the 2014 Apertura Final on Univision.

According to Univision, the audience is larger than every NHL playoff game in the current 2015-16 season across all networks, regardless of language.
In total, Univision reported that 7.8 million total viewers watched the Súper Clásico Liga MX quarterfinals last week.

I became a Liga MX convert a few years back, The level of play, drama and intensity are incredible; plus, packed stadiums, and passionate supporters. I can even stomach their playoff setup (although still mad that Pumas didn’t win the fall season; they were hoy to watch).
I didn’t see Club America/Chivas the other day, but the day before, the Monterrey/Tigres 1/4 final was outstanding…It doesn’t bother me that no English speaking channel is showing the league. Between Univision and Univision Deportes, the coverage is excellent and widely available to fans living in the U.S., and the numbers certainly show that.

Still don’t understand we no English language available on a US TV channel. LIga MX plays a higher level of soccer on this continent. There I said it. Lisa MX is already beating MLS TV numbers especially during the Liga MX playoffs. With matches being played in prime time it makes it easy for Americans to watch from home like any other American sports league.

ESPN2 showed some Liga MX games in English. I can’t recall whether it was last season or the season before. Dan Thomas used to commentate some of the games.
