EFL iFollow FAQ: Football League’s streaming service

EFL iFollow FAQ

Our EFL iFollow FAQ breaks down a now-essential tool to keep up with a number of clubs throughout the English pyramid.

With the exciting news that the English Football League (EFL) is launching an exclusive streaming platform for the 2017/18 season onwards, soccer fans around the world will finally be able to watch all of their home and away games via an Internet subscription service.

World Soccer Talk spoke to EFL Marketing Director Drew Barrand to get the inside information on all of the important questions that you have.

Q: What is iFollow?

A: Beginning with the 2017/18 season, soccer fans of English Football League clubs in the United States will be able to watch every single game of their favorite club online via the streaming platform named iFollow.

It’s a brand new service that will be available via the club websites for 61 of the 72 Football League sides.

If you’re familiar with the PlayerHD platform that official club websites offered in the past with audio commentaries, this is a completely new product that will replace PlayerHD and offer the streaming of home and away games.

Q: What is the EFL and which clubs are part of it?

A: The EFL is the new name for the English Football League. The clubs that play in the EFL are the 72 teams from England’s Championship, League One and League Two. At the end of every Premier League season, three clubs are relegated from the EPL to the Championship. Those three clubs then become members of the EFL.

Q: What’s so unique about iFollow?

A: For soccer fans who have been unable to watch any games of their favorite Football League club, this is a dream come true. In previous seasons, the best that supporters of Football League clubs could hope for was either a deep FA Cup or League Cup run where they team might be shown on television, a few games a season on TV if they played in the Championship, or the slim chance of seeing their team in the Premier League where every match was available.

Q: In what countries is iFollow available?

A: iFollow is available as a streaming platform in every country outside the United Kingdom. For those living in the UK, an iFollow audio commentary subscription is available (but without streaming video).

SEE MORE: Schedule of Championship games on US TV and streaming

Q: How do I sign up?

A: By mid-June, the vast majority of Football League clubs will launch iFollow in time for the new season and will begin accepting subscriptions.

There won’t be a central iFollow site. You’ll need to go to your official EFL (English Football League) club website to sign up for iFollow.

Q: What will the streaming service be called on the club website?

A: iFollow will be branded with the club name. So, for example, if you support Wolverhampton Wanderers, the streaming platform will be named iFollow Wolves. Vice-versa, if you’re a Cardiff supporter, it’s iFollow Cardiff, and so on and so forth.

Q: Are all of the games offered? Are there any exceptions?

A: All of the home and away matches will be available from the clubs that are participating in iFollow. The only exception is if the game is shown on US television, then the game on iFollow will be blacked out.

Q: Which clubs have chosen to not offer iFollow to their supporters around the world?

A: Accrington Stanley, Aston Villa, Bristol City, Derby County, Leeds United, Queens Park Rangers and five other Football League clubs.

Note, however, that for the 11 clubs that haven’t signed up for iFollow, they can still live stream the same games as the other 61 EFL clubs. The only difference is the 11 clubs will do it through their own digital infrastructure and brand rather than iFollow.

All 72 EFL clubs have the ability to live stream games overseas regardless of whether they are in iFollow or not.

Q: What’s the price for iFollow?

A: iFollow is priced at £110 per season, which is the equivalent of $142 as of writing.

Q: What’s included in the iFollow subscription?

A: Subscribers will have exclusive access to all home and away league matches (except for the few that are featured on US TV). Matches will be available both live and on-demand.

That’s 46 matches per season, but the clubs can provide more if they choose to. For example, it’s up to the clubs themselves whether or not they would like to include preseason friendlies in the subscription.

Q: Will pricing be available per month or per match?

A: It’s possible that it may be added in the future, but when the service launches this summer, it’ll be priced on a per-season basis.

Q: When is iFollow scheduled to launch?

A: The plan is to launch iFollow by mid-June 2017.

Q: Will iFollow subscribers be able to access all of the EFL games being shown live, even for clubs they don’t support?

A: No. Subscribers will only be able to watch live and on-demand streams of the subscriptions that they subscribe to. So, for example, if you subscribe to iFollow Millwall, you’ll get to see all of the home and away matches of Millwall FC.

Q: Which TV network will be broadcasting the Championship games in the United States for the 2017/18 season onwards?

A: As of press time, a decision hasn’t been made. beIN SPORTS currently has the rights to the Championship and League One games in the United States, but that TV rights agreement is scheduled to end at the close of the 2016/17 season.

Q: In addition to watching games via the web, will there be any apps available so football supporters can watch games via smartphones, Roku, AppleTV, Amazon Fire and Chromecast?

A: The iFollow platform is optimized for web, mobile and tablet browsers. There are plans to release an app at a future date. But an app for the Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire won’t be ready in the foreseeable future.

With Chromecast, even if it’s not enabled on the iFollow web, mobile and tablet browser experience, Chromecast users can ‘cast’ the streams to their TV set using the built-in feature in Google Chrome.

Q: Will there be any free trials available so that supporters can test out the service for 24 hours before committing to subscribing?

A: Not at this time, but there may be a trial offered in the future.

Q: What type of production quality can subscribers expect from iFollow?

A: Every iFollow service will have a minimum of a single camera. Each club can choose to enhance the streaming production with more cameras and audio commentary, if they choose.

Q: For the clubs that are relegated from the Premier League at the end of each season, will those clubs be able to sign up to iFollow by the beginning of the next Championship season so supporters can watch those clubs?

A: All of the clubs relegated from the Premier League to the Championship will have the opportunity to sign up for the iFollow service to offer the streaming platform to their club supporters.

Q: How important is the US market to the EFL’s decision in creating the iFollow platform?

A: Findings suggest over 55% of the EFL’s fans are located in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand where the potential audience for the iFollow platform could reach into the hundreds of thousands.

According to EFL Marketing Director Drew Barrand, the United States is the leading market that features the most fans of EFL clubs worldwide outside the UK.

Q: Is there anything else important to know?

A: As part of the EFL launching the iFollow streaming service, all of the official club websites for the 72 EFL teams will be redesigned and relaunched this summer with an improved design and usability.

When iFollow launches in mid-June, the EFL will continue to make enhancements to the streaming service. The league is always looking to enhance it, said Barrand.

A good question about Smart TVs.. i’ve just watched Blackpool’s opening game v Bristol Rovers via iFollow. I connected to a spare HDMI input via my MacBook Pro. Very good reception here in the Caribbean. My only quibble: the audio was supplied by BBC Radio and, although entertaining, was intrusive at best, and also lagged about two seconds behind the video. Otherwise very enjoyable.

    Streaming directly to smart tv?

On the various websites I’ve discovered relating to iFollow, I see the same question over and over with no real solution.

Everyone wants to know how to stream the matches through iFollow directly to their TV’s!

The only half solution some present is to stream to your laptop or phone and then somehow find a way to project this image to the TV. It appears virtually everyone has issues trying to do this. Some have no sound, some have no picture, just a blank screen!

When the smart tv is connected to the internet and allows perfect streaming to sites like Netflix and Hulu, there should be a way this can be done with iFollow without everyone pulling his hair out!

I have 3 smart tv’s and would subscribe if I could get the matches to play directly on tv. But to sign up just to watch on a 6” phone or 15” tablet or laptop just isn’t cutting it for me!

Hatters fan in Denmark. Generally pleased with picture quality. Shame about the 10-15 second time delay between picture and crowd audio. Disappointed that streaming does not support AirPlay. Would prefer to see Lutons games on my tv compared to my iPad. Why does the EFL block or not allow this?

I am a Mansfield Town supporter who now lives in Spain. when i 1st got this service I could watch the games live and listen to the commentary, although often the one was seconds behind the other, but now it will only let me watch or listen, is there any way I can return to getting both?

I have been giving this iFollow EFL streaming service the benefit of the doubt until now. I have sent a few emails to the iFollow@efl.com and have only ever received the response that I should reset my password. The fact that isn’t the reason I contacted them is somehow lost on them. My Macbook was in for repair, so I tried to watch on my iPad. As soon as I attempted to log in, my account was locked. When I got my Macbook back, the same thing happened. I asked why this was the case and they sent a password reset. So pick a viewing option and stick with it, iFollow do not appear to be interested in fully informing their customers.
The stream quality has always been poor, with the exception of one game, this is due to poor service from iFollow. I have the most up to date fibre connection, am able to stream from all sorts sites, such as Youtube and stream live TV with very good quality pictures. All expect iFollow, which is very poor. However, this evenings game seems to be streaming well.
I’m not sure I am too happy with the blackout for games that are broadcast internationally. As it stands, I will only see tonights game in November and no games in December! None of these games are being televised in South East Asia, most are being televised in America, Ireland and mainland Europe. Surely this shouldn’t be an issue! I’ll stop now, but there is a long list of what’s wrong with iFollow.

Lousy sound delay on every game. Described as cutting-edge, this service can’t even get something as simple as matching up the sound to the image right. A three-second delay makes watching the games extremely frustrating. I do not recommend this service until they can demonstrate they can get the simple things right.

Actually, would be prepared to subscribe IF they had an App for my Roku or SmartTV.
I am not paying to watch on a smartphone or little tablet when I have a 65″ TV in the corner!
Why in the world would they NOT do that?
Games via ESPN3 via Roku are indistinguishable from my cable channels. That’s what I expect.

I subscribed for AFC Wimbledon and don’t have any matches on demand. Do the other clubs have the previous league matches on demand?

    • David

      August 16, 2017 at 12:12 am

I think I found replays. I had to go in to “results” which is dangerous if you’re avoiding the score, but there is an option to hide all scores. Unfortunately the commentary isn’t included with the video/offered separately.

    August 14, 2017 at 5:39 pm

I am a Sunderland fan and would like to purchase game passes for the away games (home games are on ESPN3) but some of the times will be when I am at work. Can you replay a match if you just purchase a single game pass for it?

Why can’t I stream from my iPhone to my Apple TV? When I try and stream and mirror to TV it plays for a few seconds and then blacks out.

I would like to watch on a big screen and not on my phone. Is their a way for this to work? Is it just a glitch with the app?

Something is getting lost in translation. Over week ago iFollow stated in an email they would get back to me “shortly” re logging in issues. Still waiting!!
Disgusted with the lack of service

  20. Scott

    August 10, 2017 at 10:18 am

Has anyone figured out how to watch a replay without spoilers? I’m subscribed to Bolton Wanderers iFollow. I have reached out to the club and the EFL. I’ll update this if I hear anything.

    • Scott

      August 10, 2017 at 2:02 pm

So I have received mixed messages. The EFL says there is no way to remove the spoiler information off the replays. Bolton Wanderers media says they are going to look into creating a replay folder removing all spoiler information. So perhaps each club is going to handle it’s media products differently? I’m not sure how this is going to play out, but certainly iFollow is having some growing pains.

Hi Scott – fellow BWFC fan and ifollow subscriber. I sent the same message to ifollow and they answered a question I didn’t ask. How did you go about contacting the club? Perhaps if they hear the message repeatedly they will actually do something.

Have subscribed but couldn’t watch Cardiff City’s first match, only hear audio. Have sent over six emails to Efl but have had a few replays from a robot saying they will get in touch, which they haven’t. Customer service is a disgrace! Very unhappy! Don’t know what to do. Living in Spain.

Hi Susan. I’ve had some issues too and had better success contacting the club directly (I’m a Bolton Wanderers fan). I looked up Cardiff City’s media e-mail address and found ifollow@cardiffcityfc.co.uk. Perhaps they can be more helpful. Good luck!

Just to be clear – Can I watch a live game on a PC or does it have to be on a device like a tablet or phone? Last Saturday I couldn’t get on to anything on my PC, but via the app I was lucky enough to watch the game on my iPhone.
Just thought once I had downloaded the official Bradford city website that the link would take me to the live game ? It didn’t happen?. Can I download the mobile app to my PC? keen to get any support on this one!.
Also it mentioned that you can watch a replay on demand – again is that only available on the mobile app?

    • Christopher Harris

      August 7, 2017 at 8:11 am

You’ll be able to watch the games live (and on-demand) via your club website if you live outside the UK/Ireland. The app is only for smartphones and tablets.

You should be able to access the same live and on-demand content via the apps as you can from the club website.

  23. Tor Mollatt Eriksen

    August 5, 2017 at 10:13 am

It should be possible to both listen to the commentary, and watch the live match, or the commentary should be included in the match-stream. I’ve enjoyed the Barnet-commentary for lots of years now, but I’m not able to now, as it shuts off the commentary when I start the match stream.

    • Dean Jones

      August 12, 2017 at 10:48 pm

I agree! I love the local commentary, they should sync it together to add to the match experience.

Seriously though, where is the service where I can pay $300, nominate a club for that money to go to and then give me the option of watching all the games from the rest of the leagues???
If I’m a Derby County fan in the Championship, or a Doncaster fan in League 1 or a Coventry fan in League 2, I’m going to be interested in the other teams that are playing in that league.
So if I want to watch the rest of the teams in the Championship for example, I’m up for 3120 pounds.
If I subscribe to MLB, I get over 4000 games for 130 pounds
If I subscribe to a team on EFL iFollow, I get 46 games (subject to blackout – more likely around 40) for 130 pounds.
Let’s hope in the future the EFL looks into getting a subscription so the proper fans can really follow their leagues and not just one single club.

  26. Pent

    August 4, 2017 at 3:42 pm

You really should add also a monthly subscription. For example 15€/month and cancel any time, when the subscription ends till the payment lasts.

    You now have
6€/game : I will watch 1-10 games depending how good the stream is. If the first game is a disappointment, it will be hard to get me back to this service.
130€ / season pass : Absolutely no way! If the manure hits the fan, I’ve lost 130€ to a poor streaming service. For me this is an unknown service, which might be a brilliant one or a fiasco. I don’t know and I won’t risk that much money to the service.

    Also, add a proper Chromecast-support.

One day away from start of season and still waiting for App to appear for ios? I have an Ipad and Imac. Have full subscription and have not been able to watch any lives games a yet, not sure if friendlies were being streamed live. I’am an Pompey supporter living in Australia. Have been watching highlights from Pompey website via iFollow. Thanks for anyones help.

    • Christopher Harris

      August 4, 2017 at 11:27 am

Hi Carl, according to the EFL, the iFollow app should be in the App Store. Search for ‘official app team name’ (include the team that you follow; as long as they’re part of the iFollow service, you should be able to find the app for that club).

iFollow will only let you log in to the service via one device at a time. It will also preference the most recent device you have logged in on and then automatically log you out of the previous ones.

    • Christopher Harris

      August 2, 2017 at 8:55 am

You would need to go to your official club website and there would be a link from there to their iFollow page (if they’re participating in the iFollow service). For the Championship clubs, you can find the links from our Championship TV/streaming Schedule page at https://www.worldsoccertalk-wp.futbolsites.dev/championship-tv-schedule/

£2.39 a game…that’s a right rip off. What about sending round a free pie and a tin of ale for half time. Oh! and I want replica shirts thrown in so I can watch the games in my team colours (home and away mind you). You can use ‘local’ sources if you want. This is downright thievery in broad daylight, and they’re not even wearing masks.

Is what some of the people really want/think. Like many ‘proper’ supporters who cannot get to the games this is an absolute Gem of an idea…and for it’s worth, is actually good value for money.

This seems to be changing by the day as a few days ago on the Luton sight it said 6 euro per game of 130 euro per year. Now it just says 130 euro per year.

Still waiting to hear what the latency will be. Last commentary on Plymouth Argyle site was two minutes behind live. Their score was 1-0 yet BBC web site showing away team had scored two goals!
Function of the investment in Infrastructure but would recommend if you use iFollow turn off live alerts as your viewing maybe spoilt. Spent my whole career in technology worldwide so I am aware of their challenges providing “live” – even ESPN on Spanish and English channels can differ in timing by a few seconds

    Two questions:

    1) Will audio commentary be available in the US for cup matches, or is there no coverage at all for cup matches? As a Blackpool supporter, would I be missing all the Checkatrade Trophy, League Cup and FA Cup matches completely, or just missing video?

    2) Will audio commentary be available for other league clubs as well, as has been in the past? Or is this entirely limited to one club, video and audio?

    • Christopher Harris

      July 14, 2017 at 12:07 pm

      1) This is for the EFL games only. The rights to the League Cup, FA Cup and Checkatrade Trophy are separate.

      2) It’s limited to a per-club basis.

  36. Dave

I’m annoyed that the service isn’t available to supporters in the UK. I’m a season ticket holder with Sheffield United and I go to every home game. I don’t however have the time or money to travel to away games and would 100% pay a service to watch these. I understand that streaming home games could have an impact on crowd numbers, but the majority of season ticket holders don’t go to away games. Yet someone in a different country can stream them? Really? Great way to repay loyal season ticket holders eh!

If you have friends or family abroad get them to sign you up and then use a VPN at home, using your login details.

    • Sam Stark

      August 2, 2017 at 12:29 pm

You do know there is an FA Blackout Rule that bans broadcasters from showing live games anywhere between 2:45 PM and 5:15 PM (UK Time). The only way around is with a VPN for any country outside the UK and Ireland. How you pay for the service is up to you but your account MUST not be based in the UK or Ireland for this to work.

Do you know why the EFL decided to limit this to one club per subscriber? It seems if the EFL wanted to widen its subscriber base, it would not only appeal to the diehard supporter, but also attract football enthusiasts outside of the UK who have been brought into the game via the EPL.

For the $140 cost, it is similar to what the AFL does for fans outside of Australia. However, for $149 per year, a nominal fan, such as myself, gets to watch all the matches live or on-demand.

I would love to watch Championship, League One, and League Two matches. However, asking someone to choose one club seems counterintuitive since the EFL clubs are rarely televised outside of the odd match on beIN sports or if the club advances in the FA cup.

I am partial to Swindon Town since there is a family connection; however, I am not that fervent to spend $140 on the Robins.

There are 72 teams in the EFL – I think they’d charge a bit more than $140 to let you watch all the teams

      • NaBUru38

        July 13, 2017 at 1:15 pm

Perhaps they could charge one team for $15 per month for one team, $26 for two teams, $35 for three teams, $40 for five teams, and $60 for all teams.

      • Timm

        August 5, 2017 at 2:43 pm

Then perhaps they should charge per league — Championship, League One, and League Two.

My team Hartlepool were relegated to National league last season. When trying to subscribe to pools player for next season they said I had to refer to your website.

    • Christopher Harris

      July 7, 2017 at 8:07 am

Hartlepool is not included on iFollow. You’ll need to check with the Hartlepool website to see what they offer.

      • Richard Wilkie

        July 13, 2017 at 11:25 am

Leyton Orient were relegated last season, and their website has been updated to the iFollow format. Are they included in the update? Also what will happen about customers who’s subscription to the previous service hasn’t reached it’s renewal date yet? Will the subscription be transferred over? – or will there be a partial refund?
As for the pricing structure, shouldn’t it be on a sliding scale along the same lines of season ticket prices in the different divisions, with £110 (approx) for Premiership teams, then less for each lower division?

        • Christopher Harris

          July 13, 2017 at 12:18 pm

Hi Richard, I can’t answer your questions about billing. You’ll need to contact the club or EFL directly on that. In regards to iFollow, my understanding is that it’s only for clubs in the Football League, so now that the O’s are in non-league, I don’t believe they’ll be able to provide the service. There is a page at https://www.leytonorient.com/ifollow/subscribe/ so maybe they’re providing the service after all?

I live in the UK and my annual subscription to Oldham Athletic’s Latics Player expires on August 10th. I’m not able to log in to that site now as its been taken over by Ifollow.
Will the missing 3 months be refunded to me and what will be the cost of a new ifollow subscription.?

I don’t understand why people living in the U.K get penalized and can’t watch the games live. Some of us have commitments that mean we are unable to go to as many games as we want. But because we live in the U.K, we only get audio commentary? Seems a bit unfair. I’m sure there will be many people who will just use a location spoof to trick the location to watch it!
Not happy that we get shut out

I am not happy about this either. I am housebound in the winter and not well the rest of the year. Last year I was able to listen to commentry not only from my own team but other teams i like. There should be an option for this and I wouldn’t mind paying extra. Also it is unfair we can’t have access to Cup games anymore.

    • Sam

      September 8, 2017 at 11:50 am

The reason why users in the UK and Ireland can’t watch the games live is because of an FA Rule that dates back to the 1960s where a blackout is in effect from 2:45 PM to 5:15 PM.

As far as evening games go, there is an agreement with Sky Sports that does not allow iFollow to stream any evening games to any user in the UK and Ireland.

    • Christopher Harris

At this point in time, I’m not sure whether the UK credit card will flag an issue with trying to watch the games from Spain when the service launches later this summer before the season starts. I would wait until late June and try subscribing to IFollow Forest at that time. If it doesn’t work, then you can use a credit card issued in Spain and it should work at that time.

    Hello Sir,
I am a supporter of Bolton Wanderers but living in Thailand now.
I am very interested in purchasing iFollow Bolton Wanderers but l have questions to ask before purchasing.
Will l be able watch the live football from a iPad and connect to my TV via HDMI lead ?
Will there be a catch up service provided ?

Will there be commentary with the matches in English ?

Will there be a preview of the games before the match starts and after match thoughts ?

    • Christopher Harris

      May 27, 2017 at 10:44 am

You should be able to watch the games on your iPad, and then watch them on your TV with a HDMI cable. Games will be available on-demand, too, so you can catch up on matches you miss. Commentaries are up to each club, but they would be in English. Not sure about previews or post-match analysis. We’ll have to wait and see on that one.

      • Michael Clarkson

        July 19, 2017 at 2:30 pm

you can’t connect an iPad to a tv with an Hdmi lead. You can only stream it to your tv by buying an apple tv device.

For that price, I thought it would be a service where you can see every single game of the Championships, League 1 and League 2 seasons, much like League Pass in the US.
I would’ve been more than happy to pay it if I could see a variety of teams, but not 110 pounds for one team.
There needs to be an option where iFollow allows us to see every team in action. How good would that be?

  70. Gashead

    May 12, 2017 at 11:13 am

Any idea how long after full time the matches will be available to watch on-demand? And will they be downloadable? The answer for exiled NFL fans is immediately after the end of games for on-demand users, and always downloadable. Perfect for those wanting to download and watch whilst on a train or a plane! Let’s hope it’s the same here.

    • simon

      September 7, 2017 at 12:40 am

The on demand service is poor and not immediate. I subscribed, woke up early the following morning with a media black out to watch the game on demand without knowing the score and the game was not there. The game goes up 24 hours after the kick off which I think defeats the point of catch up because that stage you know the score and the surprise element dissapears. Makes it hard for me to watch live games from Australia at silly o’clock. Overall pretty disappointing now I am stuck with the service.

How many Americans will be willing to pay$141 to follow second, third, and fourth tier clubs when all 10 Premier League games are available to them for free if they already have a cable subscription that includes NBC Sports? There are also various apps (available from this site) that allow streaming of many leagues and games. I think that their pricing structure is hopeful but unrealistic. You would have to be a big time fan of say, Nottingham Forest to pay this fee. I wish them good luck but predict a dismal response.

    • Christopher Harris

      May 10, 2017 at 4:50 pm

Stephen, that’s exactly the point. The streaming service is not for fair-weather fans. It’s for diehard supporters. Many of the type of fans that’ll subscribe to iFollow may not have a lot of interest in watching the Premier League (unless of course their club gets promoted to the top flight).

      • Greg

        May 11, 2017 at 6:11 am

Exactly the point. “Real” fans of lower division clubs will be more than happy to pay to see every game of the season.
I live in Australia and follow the Hatters. I have to stay up till three in the morning to listen on the radio to games, I pay for that privilege. That’s what “real” supporters are about.
On demand, every game, sign me up.

As an ex-pat Brit living in the States and a roughly 25-year supporter of Cheltenham Town, I too am incredibly excited about this. Following on the internet radio has been ok, and a vast improvement over the early 2000s where that wasn’t even a possibility, but video of it too? I’m actually hoping to visit the UK late this year and this means I’ll recognize the players in the 1-2 games I get to see before coming back to the stated. Excellent!

For years now I have been getting up 3am to watch report up date of the games. I also get the impression this sort of revolves around the USA but all thes above comments are not just from the USA. • Stephen May

      September 28, 2017 at 4:42 pm

NBC is monetizing the Premier League games by creating a site and an app called NBC Sports Gold. It is a much better deal than iFollow, $50 for the entire 2017-2018 EPL season. It includes every game that is not shown on cable television, with an average of access to 4 games per weekend. They are carefully crafting a mix of the “Big 6” teams and the rest of the teams so that people will likely have a reason to buy the service regardless of which team(s) that they follow. I bought it and I feel that it is a reasonably priced service for what you receive. Of course I really hate the fact that the games, which heretofore had been 100% available through my Cox Cable subscription, now cost me $50, but that is the way that the market is going. I’m betting that, in the long run, I will end up paying more in total to ensure that I can view all of the content that I currently receive with my cable subscription.

    May 9, 2017 at 1:45 pm

This still doesn’t answer my major questions. Will cup matches be included? Are away matches with clubs that aren’t using the service not included (the answer’s wording is vague)? What are the five other teams not participating and will their followers still have audio service? Will the EFL be replacing club commentators like the NWSL has?

    • Christopher Harris

      May 9, 2017 at 2:02 pm

Cup matches will not be included. League games only. The cup games (League Cup and FA Cup) are different rights deals. All home and away league matches are included (they are streaming over 1,500 games a season). So, for example, if your team is playing Aston Villa at Villa Park, you’d be able to watch the away stream of that match even if Villa aren’t signed up for the service.

I’m not sure who the other 5 teams are at this time. It’s up to the 11 clubs what they want to do with their services/broadcasts (that aren’t part of iFollow).

For the commentators, it’s a decision that’s up to each individual club.

      • David

        May 9, 2017 at 2:44 pm

Thanks, this post and your response have been way more helpful than the EFL site. Disappointing to hear the cup matches aren’t included, since the audio commentary this past season included that. Hopefully clubs will find a way to still do audio for those (especially if the games aren’t on tv).
