ESPN+ is now the place to stream Spain’s La Liga in the United States. “We are absolutely thrilled to bring La Liga to ESPN in the U.S.,” said La Liga president Javier Tebas. “This is an historic eight-season agreement in U.S. soccer broadcasting that speaks to the power of La Liga and its clubs in the largest media market in the world and will bring the world’s best soccer league to American screens in a more comprehensive and modern way than ever before.”
So what is ESPN+ and how do you watch La Liga matches? Let’s find out.
ESPN+ FAQ for La Liga
Q: What is ESPN+?
A: ESPN+ is the American sports broadcasting giant’s streaming service. Along with La Liga matches, the ESPN+ platform also offers many live games/events from multiple sports, as well as the popular 30 for 30 documentary library and original content.
Q: Tell me about live La Liga games on ESPN+
A: ESPN+ is the United States home of La Liga (English and Spanish-language coverage) beginning for the 2021/22 season. The eight-year agreement to stream the popular Spanish league means that there won’t be any confusing moves to other broadcasting companies until at least 2029. If you want to watch La Liga matches in the United States, you will need ESPN+ for the foreseeable future.
The company says that every La Liga match will be available live on ESPN+. Select La Liga 2 (also known as Segunda Division), Spain’s second-tiered soccer league, will also be on the streaming service. Along with La Liga, and the few La Liga 2 games, ESPN also currently holds the rights to broadcast Copa del Rey matches as well.
Q: When will ESPN+ start streaming La Liga content?
A: ESPN+ began streaming shows regarding La Liga as of May 15th, 2021. Live matches will be available live when the 2021/22 season starts on August 13th, 2021.
Q: What replays of games will be available on ESPN+?
A: Miss a match? No need to worry. All La Liga game replays will be available on-demand with ESPN+.
Q: Will La Liga matches be available on traditional ESPN channels?
A: ESPN will reportedly air some La Liga matches on their family of broadcast channels throughout each season. It’s expected to be similar to the Bundesliga where roughly four games a season will be on television (as well as ESPN+).
Q: Does this mean that Barca TV, Real Madrid TV, and Sevilla TV will be found on ESPN+?
A: No. Real Madrid TV and Sevilla TV will still be available on Fanatiz, and Barca TV remains exclusively on the team’s official website.
Q: For viewers who join La Liga games in progress on ESPN+, will they automatically be able to choose between watching the game from the start or watching it live?
A: As of now, there is not an actual option to choose to start watching from the beginning of a game. However, depending on which device you are using, most users can simply use the rewind button to start a match from the beginning again.
Q: For live games on ESPN+, are player controls available to rewind or pause or fast-forward?
A: ESPN+ subscribers do have the ability to pause, rewind, or fast-forward during live sporting events.
Q: How much is ESPN+?
A: ESPN+ is currently $6.99 per month.
No free trial is available.
Q: Is there an annual plan available so you can save more money?
A: Yes. There is also an annual option for $69.99 per year. If you purchase an annual plan prior to the price increase, it will lock you in for a year. Users can also bundle ESPN+, Disney+, and Hulu together (called the Disney+ Bundle) for $13.99 per month.
Q: Do I need a cable or satellite subscription to access ESPN+?
A: No. ESPN+ is not available on any cable/satellite provider plan. The streaming service is a separate over-the-top subscription platform.
Q: How do I access ESPN+?
A: ESPN+ can be streamed on Roku, Playstation 4 or 5, Xbox One or Series X/S, Oculus Go, Samsung Smart TV, Xfinity Flex/Xfinity X1, Amazon Fire TV/Fire Tablet, Google Chromecast, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Android devices.
Q: Will any of the games stream in 4K on ESPN+?
A: ESPN+ does not currently offer 4K streaming.
Q: What resolution are the games streamed in?
A: ESPN+ streams mostly in 60fps 1080p, but, if needed due to bandwidth constraints, the streams downgrade on some content to 720p.
Q: Where can I find the schedule of La Liga games on ESPN+ and their traditional television channels?

Q: What programming is available on ESPN+ other than live La Liga matches?
A: Along with live and on-demand La Liga games, ESPN+ also offers German Bundesliga, MLS, England’s Championship, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup, Dutch Eredivisie, Scottish Premiership, UEFA National Team games, and the USL, among many other leagues.
Additional La Liga programming includes La Liga season preview and review, El Clásico specials, La Liga highlights show, classic La Liga Matches, and select content from La Liga TV.
As far as non-soccer content, ESPN+ currently carries live sports from Major League Baseball, PGA Golf, ATP Tennis, MMA, and multiple college sports. The aforementioned 30 for 30 library and original content is also available to stream on ESPN+.
Q: Streaming is getting so expensive. What recommendations do you have to cut costs?
A: Traditional cable and satellite subscriptions have been expensive for years. Not only are subscribers normally locked into annual contracts, but most people end up paying for channels that they don’t actually watch.
Streaming services such as fuboTV, Sling TV, and YouTube TV certainly help bring costs down; however, there are still issues with paying for content that you don’t necessarily use. Carlos, are you in the US? Are you able to see other ESPN+ content? When you click on a match, it lets you choose the eng/spa broadcast. It’s the first thing that comes up. It’s pretty straight forward. I have an android tv in one TV and Apple TV in another. Both act the same. Of all the matches that I’ve tuned in, which have been a lot, only one did not have Spanish commentary. It was in English even though I chose the Spanish broadcast. Don’t know if it stayed like that forever or if it eventually switched to Spanish since I changed to something else.

I have a question – I signed up for ESPN+ to watch Spanish soccer games. Mainly Barcelona. I have not been able to find any. I’m not sure if I just just don’t know how to find them or if they are not available. Please let me know either how to find the full games, even if they are after the fact, or if I should cancel my subscription. Thank you

Yes, all of the games are available in Spanish. When you go to watch a game via ESPN+, it’ll ask you to choose between English-language or Spanish-language broadcasts.

@Keith Woodward- I wish Paramount Plus would have the same picture quality as ESPN+ did. Paramount Plus and their Serie A coverage is getting better but ESPN is amazing with their broadcasting team and showing multiple matches on their local channel. The Serie A barely gets one game a week on CBSSN. Overall Paramount Plus and ESPN+ are doing a fantastic job with coverage of both leagues. Excellent job from both. Any suggestions you have for the coverage of both companies?

I was surprised they didn’t use an ESPN crew for the spanish broadcast of Celta-Atl. Madrid with Atleti being one of the big teams in the league. But yeah, all games are available in Spanish, either from ESPN announcers or the spaniard broadcast.

We now have espn+ to watch Spanish fubol. Why is it not in Spanish. And can it be changed to the Spanish language?? We prefer to watch it in Spanish.

When you click on a game to watch, it should give you an option of English or Spanish-language broadcast to choose from.

Serie A is now on Paramount Plus. Their button on the app was posted today since Coppa Italia matches will air this Friday. Excellent. Lets hope for amazing coverage. Thank you. Please Messi come to the Serie A.

Yes, but if it doesn’t work, you can buy an Amazon Fire TV stick or Roku stick for less than $50 and insert that into your HDMI port and then watch ESPN+ through there.

It appears that ESPN will include some of the shows on-demand, but not as a continuous stream like beIN SPORTS Connect did.
