Out of the 53 UEFA Nations League games scheduled for September 21-27, FOX Sports are airing three on FS1, ten on FS2 and ten on FOX Soccer Plus. In total, that’s 23 out of 53. That means that FOX Sports is broadcasting less than half of the games.
Subsequently, in a deal reached last year, FOX Sports have sub-licensed the streaming rights to the games to fuboTV. With this in mind, fuboTV is streaming every single one of the 53 matches to viewers in the United States.
More games on streaming than cable and satellite
For fuboTV subscribers, that’s excellent news, offering every single game in English-language. FuboTV kicks off its coverage of the UEFA Nations League with Scotland facing Ukraine on Sep. 21.
However, it’s not just that FOX Sports are showing 43% of the games on their channels. It’s that the games selected for television coverage leave much to be desired. Yes, there are some big matches planned for FS1. FOX Sports 1 hosts Belgium and Wales on Sep. 22. But the following day, Italy battles England in a Euro 2020 Final rematch exclusive to fuboTV. England is in action again when it hosts Germany on Sep. 26 on FS1. Finally, the Netherlands takes on Belgium on fuboTV on the final day of matches.
On the other hand, many of the games on FS2 and FOX Soccer Plus feature less popular matchups such as Estonia vs Malta, Moldova versus Liechtenstein, Montenegro against Finland, Kazakhstan versus Belarus, and so on.
Meanwhile, streaming service fuboTV also gives viewers access to interactive product features. This means subscribers can see live stats and scores from other Nations League matches on the same screen as the game. Apple TV users can watch up to four of these matches at the same time, as well, by using fuboTV’s Multiview feature.

FOX reveals UEFA Nations League talent
FOX Sports regulars John Strong and JP Dellacamera will be the main commentators for these matches on FS1. Former USMNT stars Stu Holden and Cobi Jones are the match analysts for the network.
The network’s on-air studio talent includes Alexi Lalas, Maurice Edu, and Clint Dempsey. Former Premier League official Mark Clattenburg will also be available during FOX’s live coverage to help explain any controversial or interesting referee decisions.
The UEFA Nations League is a biennial tournament that includes senior men’s national teams throughout Europe. UEFA, the sport’s governing body in the continent, implemented the tournament in 2018. UEFA designed the competition to replace otherwise insignificant friendly matches during international breaks.
Each UEFA Nations League tournament essentially takes about a full year to complete. The current version began earlier this summer. The final concludes the ‘league’ on June 18, 2023. Upcoming matches are in the matchday four and matchday five phase of the current campaign.
In addition to the above coverage, Italy-England and Wales-Poland will be available via pay-per-view. PPV matches can be found on iN Demand, DIRECTV and DISH.

This bears repeating and should propbably feature more prominently in the article: in addition to the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League, Vix/Vix+ has the Spanish-language rights to the UEFA Nations League with all games available live on their platform.
At $6.99 a month, highly recommended for those who understand Spanish or don’t need English commentary. Even better, if you’re a T-Mobile customer, look if you might be eligible for their 1 free year of Vix+ offer.
It would be nice to see a real pushback against the Fox/Fubo racket, and even nicer, as some have mentioned, if the English-language rights to UEFA national teams games could one day return to ESPN/ESPN+ or be grabbed by Paramount+.
To anwer @Darth_bill’s question, and that’s one fairly big caveat for people interested in Vix/Vix+, past experience has shown that match replays don’t stay posted very long (48 hours seem to be the norm).

All good points Matt, we should also mention ViX+ offers a 1 week free trial, which covers this Nations League round entirely at no cost. Subscribe through Apple, painless to unsubscribe and resubscribe anytime as needs demand. It has been mentioned elsewhere but worth repeating, there is often commentary in English available from UK radio for matches, so if you don’t happen to get FS1 you could watch Belgium Wales today on ViX+ while listening to the Talksport radio stream.

These are just glorified friendlies anyway and easy to ignore. Fox knows this, knows interest is minimal (especially in the Fall), knows they can offload to Fubo most and won’t care. They wanted the Euros, they just had to take this on too as a result but would never have bid for them as a stand alone.

A decent percentage of people ditching cable switch to a streaming pay TV bundle. I believe fubo are trying to find hooks to drive this low hanging fruit to fubo rather than Hulu Live, YTTV, Sling, etc.

At one point, in-game wagering was proposed, but I think fubo are too late with that. Exclusive soccer seems to be another attempt. Not the worst idea – if you like soccer and do not care about Turner, fubo is a solid choice

As you note, exclusive fubo soccer is mostly of niche interest. fubo are cash challenged and likely cannot afford exclusivity on anything major. Fun to follow

Paramount+ does have the worst streaming platform of all of them though. You can’t pause or rewind a live game, for example, and it takes them hours to render the a live game for replay. It’s like going back years as far as platform capability is concerned.
Their idiot commentators do have the frustrating habit of “bringing updates” of scores in games that are being played contemporaneously, especially in the Champions League. We all have the capablity to look at a news feed, we don’t need a dinosaur commentator “hearing over the airwaves” or being proud to “bring you updates” as if they have exclusive access to news updates.
Peacock is by far the best of the streaming platforms. You’ve got full control over pause/rewind and the replays are posted a short time after the live event concludes.

The best TV rights news will be when UEFA terminates or buys back the rights from Fox. I don’t see it lasting until 2028. The best option is CBS/Paramount+, because they have the UEFA club competitions, therefore, they could promote the Euro/Nations League during the UCL, UEL, and UECL. I am seriously wondering if CBS/Paramount+ is getting the rights starting next year if UEFA will part ways with Fox/Fubo

Fox paid and ton of money for the rights. There is not a snow ball change in hell that UEFA is going to give back that money…especially since this is the US and not their home base of Europe. Vix+ is cheap and easy alternate.

UEFA seriously needs to reconsider its National Team contract with FOX and sell it to either Paramount or ESPN. Such a campaign worked for the Bundesliga so I don’t see why petitioning to UEFA wouldn’t work. Heck, if this starts soon enough, things could change in time for the beginning of the Euro qualifiers in February.
Yes, I have FuboTV and Vix+ mainly for other reasons. However, a lot of people don’t want Fubo just for a set of International matches that happen a few times a year, therefore not reaching as many potential eyeballs as it could have.
But it is well documented that FOX treats soccer like a Saturday morning cartoon while us real fans would place our beloved sport either higher or the same wavelength as American Football. I hope Fox can somehow prove us wrong at the next World Cup. I’m not holding my breath though.

If FuboTV would ever get TNT and TBS back in their lineup, then I would easily switch from YouTubeTV. How can you say, “Come for the sports, stay for the entertainment.” if you don’t have 2 networks that showcase both sports and entertainment??? I guess I like the NBA on TNT too much that I’m willing to miss some UEFA Nations League matches as a result. It almost seems like once a streaming service loses a network, it never comes back. Bally Sports is another great example.

The extended lack of Turner on fubo surprises me also. A lot of high-profile sports are on TBS/TNT – NBA, NHL, March Madness, MLB, etc. The fubo CEO has claimed to have data that lack of Turner does not adversely impact fubo share; I am skeptical of that assertion

Many streaming services have small long-term gaps. fubo Latino has no Telemundo/Universo, Hulu Live lacks AMC and related, YTTV lacks A&E and related, etc. Perhaps it helps streaming companies maintain leverage, since they can point to willingness to say “no”

There are two times when simultaneous games are listed on FS2. If one of them is shown delayed, that shouled be specified. Armenia vs.. Ukraine and Slovakia vs. Belarus are not on FS2 at any time that day.

Hi Chris, Let’s put this into perspective. What would ESPN do if it didn’t have a streaming service, if ESPN+ didn’t exist? They’d do what Fox is doing and find a streaming partner like FuboTV. ESPN wouldn’t show the UEFA Nations League on TV because College Football is their bread & butter on all their channels. It’s the same with NASCAR, college football, basketball on FS1. I’m not defending Fox, but this is how they make a profit.

Do you know how long Vix keeps the games available to replay? I’m used to Paramount+ where you can watch things from years ago if you want to. ESPN drops them after a month. When vix was free, I didn’t see any kind of archive other than a few days to weeks.
