After the international break, and some teams not playing for nearly a month, the Premier League returns in a big way.
Derby matches and intercity clashes highlight a full 10-game slate of fixtures at the weekend. Here are the biggest games.
What better way to start the weekend than the North London Debry between Arsenal and Tottenham. Both teams started this young campaign on good form, and that boils into a fixture including two of the top three teams in the EPL table. After seven games, Arsenal has just one blemish, good enough for 18 points. Tottenham is tied with Manchester City for second place, just one point behind the Gunners.
On the topic of Manchester City, they host cross-town rivals Manchester United on Sunday morning. While Manchester City seems to be humming along as everyone expected, Manchester United’s resurgence after early seasons struggles is admirable. Four wins on the bounce is the best current stretch of games in the Premier League. However, Manchester City on the road is the most challenging team in that run of games, even if United did face Arsenal and Liverpool.
Liverpool’s loss to Manchester United is the only loss suffered by the Reds. However, Jürgen Klopp’s side does also have three draws, putting the Anfield club in eighth, nine points back of league leaders Arsenal. A win against a Brighton side currently occupying fourth in the table would go a long way this weekend. If Liverpool has title ambitions, the climb is already steep just seven games in.
NBC coverage
NBC’s coverage is back to its usual time slots after the international break and a wonky weekend in matchday seven, as six teams did not play. Rebecca Lowe is joined by Robbie Earle and Robbie Mustoe on both Saturday and Sunday. For Monday’s pre- and post-game coverage of Leicester City against Nottingham Forest, Paul Burmeister fills in, with Danny Higginbotham joining Mustoe as analysts.
Goal Rush is available during the 10 a.m. kickoff window on Saturday. The whip-around style show follows one game, but provides live highlights to goals, major fouls or big moments in the other games in that time slot.
There are also Premier League games available in 4K. This weekend, there is just one, which is the North London Derby on Saturday morning. Be sure to check if you have the correct hardware and subscriptions available to watch the Premier League in 4K.

Lee Dixon was announced for last weekend. Any reason given for his absence?

I always feel cheated when Lee Dixon is not in the booth.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I like Peter Drury’s “flowery” style, and find Graeme Le Saux a worthy sidekick. They’re both really good during the Manchester Derby drumming going on now. Poetry from one, dry humor and matter-of-fact from the other.

Another game with scripted, sappy Drury dribble.
A few examples: “Pep has a right to purr” and when Foden came out, “Don’t be greedy, you’ve had your fill.” Oh, I get it (duh). His first name is Phil. Inane and cringe-worthy.
Give me Jon Champion, Ian Darke, and I wish Alan Parry. Also on my list would be Mark Donaldson.
For “dry humor” I’ll take Lee Dixon every time. He actually makes me laugh out loud.
Steve McManaman was welcome, too.
Le Saux puts me to sleep.

No Lee Dixon this morning.
Also, IMSA is relegating Hammers-Wolves to USA. Where is the outrage?

Anyone else having a problem with Goal Rush?

“Coverage to begin shortly” but it hasn’t started yet. Hopefully they’ll fix it really quickly.

There has already been a goal and a red card this is embarrassing 8 minutes in and no one is awake at Peacock. Perhaps Pierre should focus a little less on Amazon Thursday night football and nail things down better here…

Is anyone outside of the US getting Goal Rush?

The embarrassment continues at 20 minutes with the goal tally up to 3…and no recognition that there is a problem…

And it’s started, finally, at 22 minutes and 4 goals missed….

No Lee Dixon on the derby this morning. Too bad, I enjoy the occasional 3 person booth in NBC’s coverage.

It would be fine by me if they only had Lee and jettisoned Graham.
As for Peter “Dreary” Drury, the verbal sap was running thick today in the Arsenal-Spurs match with lines like “bewitched, bewildered, and possibly beaten.” Please just describe the action without all of the flowery fluff.

Hi David, we don’t have that information. If we did, we’d include it. However, I’m sure one of the readers will post the info, as they do each week.

Any idea if their will be a Spanish option for the Manchester derby on Peacock?
Sometimes they provide this but I can’t find out about it for this game.
