Since 2017, the English Football League (EFL) has a paid-subscription service for most Championship, League One and League Two clubs. It allows supporters of these clubs outside the United Kingdom and Ireland to subscribe to live and on-demand streams of the club’s leagues matches. However, any matches streamed on ESPN+ are not available via the iFollow service.

To find out if your club streams games via iFollow, visit your club’s official website or the iFollow website.

There are still a few things that need to be ironed out. Instead of this past Saturday’s game between Burnley vs. Luton, ESPN+ made available the late Sat kickoff game from the week prior (Boro vs. West Brom)…!

      September 30, 2022 at 11:35 am

As a Burnley fan it’s extremely frustrating not to see more of their matches. I know their own clarets plus streaming service takes matches from Turf Moore but away games are never or rarely shown. Such frustration! Hopefully someone will solve the issue or maybe they will get promoted, we can hope.

Just chatted with the ESPN+ help. This is their explanation for the missing replays:

“…after checking according to our internal team, the missing replays are intended and part of the agreement between ESPN+ and the league. Even though we broadcasted those games live if it is not part of the agreement that we can broadcast the replay or on demand, we cannot re-air it.”

Let’s hope they will indicate which games re-air and which not.

      August 1, 2022 at 10:55 am

My guess is that the new agreement hasn’t been finalized, does anyone recall if there is precedent from last year of any games that aired live on ESPN+ but then weren’t made available for replay?

Really disappointed that ESPN+ didn’t upload the replay of Sunderland vs Coventry. Hoping for better going forward…

Is anyone else missing the playbacks of Sunderland vs. Coventry City (Jul31) and Boro vs. West Brom (Jul30). I saw the livestream on ESPN+ of the Sunderland game this morning but the replay was never made available. Does anyone have any news about what’s going on?

Is there anybody that can provide a streaming service of English soccer that isn’t a disaster? ESPN+’s Huddersfield vs Nottm.Forest has reintroduced us to the supposedly long dead experience of chronic buffering to the point that it would have taken about 10 hours and a damaged brain to suffer thru the whole thing. Peacock was a total insult – no proper ability to time-shift anywhere to be seen. Just cancelled it with the season over and hoping someone in the future will provide the matches in a way that consumers actually want. It’s two thousand and twenty ******* two. Abject. Anyway, massive thanks WST for a great website, excellent podcasts, a forum, etc.

I understand that ESPN+ is showing what they are allowed to show, but they agreed to that contract and it’s not doing them or the EFL Championship any good in terms of building a stateside audience. ESPN+ should have negotiated a better deal with more EFL Championship matches or just skipped it altogether. What they’ve got now is just a couple of random matches each week that tend to miss the rivalries and they are certainly missing the top two contenders for the title this year (most weeks). This week ESPN+ subscribers won’t get to see 1st place Fulham, the 2nd place Cherries, and USMNT players like Antonee Robinson (Fulham) and Daryl Dike (West Brom). I know the teams make more money per subscriber for their iFollow or team-specific streaming, but I think most US consumers will just switch over to a Premier or Bundesliga or Serie A or La Liga match rather than shelling out another $225/year and STILL not being guaranteed to get all of the matches for just that team (any matches shown on Sky in the U.K. or on overseas broadcasts don’t appear to be available on the team streaming subscriptions). I’m not sure most of us would even pay that much to get every single match from all of the Championship teams. And maybe that’s OK. If the EFL Championship falls off ESPN+ then maybe ESPN+ can use that money on football leagues and teams that appreciate U.S. fans and want to cultivate the U.S. viewing market.

    • Christopher Harris

      April 2, 2022 at 7:32 am

Again, under the current contract, the English Football League is offering the most amount of games they can globally. And ESPN+ is broadcasting all of those matches.

The issue is that the Championship clubs have their own streaming services where they generate money. That is not ESPN+’s fault.

      • P

        April 5, 2022 at 3:15 pm

I’m not an idiot. I understand contracts. I understand what is available. I even said that in the first sentence of my post.

But we want the teams, leagues, networks, and rights owners to know what we will and won’t pay to access.

I got a nice email from the EFL telling me the same thing that you have repeated over and over. Fair enough. I’ll go watch other leagues and use other sites for my football info.

          April 5, 2022 at 3:27 pm

P, sorry, but I’ve been asked the question so many times, and the answer is always the same, so I apologize if it came off as sounding abrupt. I’m a Swansea City supporter. I would love not having to pay $230 per season for Swans TV (which doesn’t include the ESPN+ subscription).

    March 28, 2022 at 10:24 am

The ESPN+ Championship coverage is weak. I want to be able to follow one Championship team and watch all their matches on my OLED panel both live and as a replay. If the Disney empire wants to create brand loyalty where I’m happy to pay their monthly subscription fee, I need to be able to stream all the matches for one team.

And not related to ESPN+ but the team I chose to follow doesn’t use iFollow. Their portal supports an iOS application and Windows browsers. My OLED panel is Google Play. I don’t want to spend £170 for a subscription on the team portal to watch matches on an iPhone or a laptop.

    • Christopher Harris

      March 28, 2022 at 11:45 am

Hi Geoff, ESPN+ has no control over these issues. The problem is with the English Football League who only make a certain number of games available to broadcasters. Every game that is available, ESPN+ streams.

Regarding your club team you support in the Championship, I would encourage them to upgrade to iFollow. Most of the clubs in the Championship are on that platform. It’s not cheap for supporters, by any means. But between ESPN+ and iFollow, it guarantees you won’t miss a match.

chris, good info. who do we contact at the english championship tv group to advocate more games for espn? i watch almost every championship game on espn+ – esp since nbc started peacockblocking the premier league. replays are easy. no spoiler tickers or half time chatter. it may be more interesting too. wba collapse. derby co financial penalty – like that’s gonna happen at city and chelsea. great fun. more competitive. not skewed by questionably sourced money. jim

I would recommend contacting the English Football League directly to share your thoughts. Nothing will change under the current contract with ESPN, but possibly the league could consider changes in the future.

If you don’t think there’s questionable money & owners in EFL, have a chat with fans from both Sheffield clubs, Derby fans re: Mel Morris, Blackpool re: their previous owner, Blackburn re: Venky’s etc…far too many EFL clubs, especially in the Championship, are running wage::income budgets that are completely unsustainable. Yes, the games, can be fun, but there’s financial troubles in those divisions.

I remember hearing on a previous podcast that the EFL rights could move to another broadcaster next season. Could it be NBC/Peacock? It makes the most sense because they just renewed the rights to the EPL.

  9. P

    February 11, 2022 at 12:00 pm

I had high hopes early on when ESPN+ was showing more Championship matches. I thought maybe ESPN was getting interested in the idea of being the major football streamer in the US with La Liga, Bundesliga, MLS, and more. But this season has been disappointing. Top Championship matchups are missing; the only way to insure that doesn’t happen is by having the rights to all matches and streaming all of them. Shortsighted decisions re streaming partners can really hurt leagues with potential audience growth. The NWSL and Ligue 1 have the same issue. Just my opinion.

But I can’t say I want NBC taking over. I like Rebecca Lowe and some of the analysts, but putting matches all over the place on Peacock, USA, and NBC sucks. I much prefer the ability to put multiple matches on screen in the ESPN+ app on Apple TV.

    • Christopher Harris

      February 11, 2022 at 2:34 pm

ESPN+ streams every single Championship game that the EFL makes available to them. It’s not ESPN+’s fault. It’s all of the games that the English Football League make available to overseas viewers (which is more than what they get to see in England).

  10. Henry Cuevas

    January 25, 2022 at 12:26 am

I’d like to see more games of relevance. Especially involving upper EFL teams like AFC Bournemouth and Fulham. Last weekend one of the games on ESPN+ pitted two teams way down in the standings against each other. As it is we don’t have access to too many games, why not make it games of importance at least? This would be great as the battle to move up to the Premier League get closer and closer.

Any news on EFL Championship TV Rights? I was wondering if NBC will acquire the rights, considering that they signed the contract with the EPL.

    December 1, 2021 at 2:26 pm

Thanks man. I am prepared to pay for both, heck I already pay for Directv and Peacock at the moment anyway 🤣

  13. Stevek

    December 1, 2021 at 9:48 am

Richard, I would hope for something very unike ESPN+ if I were a fan of the EFL Championship, for instance, as has been mentioned previously, of the 10 games on tap this Saturday ESPN+ is only showing 2 of the 10. Want to watch any of the other 8 you are stuck paying per game with iFollow; want to ensure you can watch all games of a particular team you need iFollow AND to subscribe to ESPN+ because guess what, what ESPN+ deigns to televise isn’t streamed elsewhere.

It is no wonder the inept leadership of the EFL has allowed the Premier to retain over 90% of all the money generated from broadcast rights fees and accept that only about 10% filters down to the rest of the pyramid.

  14. Richard Hern

    December 1, 2021 at 9:02 am

As a Newcastle fan I am worried for next season so I do hope that there is something like ESPN+ to watch my team.

  15. UnitedFan 3478

    November 22, 2021 at 6:03 pm

I am starting to wonder if NBC and Peacock will get the rights to the EFL Championship, League One, Carabao Cup, and FA Cup. Because I heard the ESPN+ contract expires before the 2022/2023 season. NBC probably will get the EFL and FA Cup to make NBC the home of English Football.

  16. greg

    October 24, 2021 at 12:27 pm

@Bry – I could be wrong but I think ESPN is limited to showing what EFL clubs don’t show via iFollow. They’d have to figure out some kind of US blackout of iFollow and the clubs would have to recoup any lost income.

  17. Bry

    October 24, 2021 at 11:36 am

I’m really hoping that the Championship gets a better US streaming option for the 2022/2023 season. Getting just one or two matches per week is disappointing on ESPN+. They show a plethora of other matches from lesser minor sports and leagues, including field hockey, cricket, water polo, and high school basketball. There’s even third tier US soccer which is painful to watch, and the occasional La Liga 2 match which is better.

On the plus side, it appears that we are getting 4 EFL Championship matches on October 29/30, including the important Fulham v West Brom matchup.

  18. Bry

    September 11, 2021 at 10:42 am

Fulham’s website explains “late change” and match is now on FFCtv.com. Disappointing as that costs a tenner or 170 pounds for the season.

  19. Bry

    September 11, 2021 at 10:23 am

Blackpool v Fulham listed in all the streaming guides on ESPN+ today (9/11/21), but apparently ESPN don’t know the difference between Blackpool and Blackburn. Oh well, that means watching Ronaldo’s debut in Newcastle v Man U on NBC.

  20. Michael

    August 5, 2021 at 8:58 am

Do you by chance still have the 2019/2020 archive listing of championship games on ESPN+? I am trying to see how many games Fulham could get this year and discount that into the price of their subscription service.

    • Christopher Harris

      August 5, 2021 at 10:31 am

Hi Michael, we don’t. Sorry. If I had to give an educated guess, I would say an average of 1.5 games per month would be on ESPN+

Hi, OK total noob to trying to watch Championship games in the US. I am a lifelong Birmingham City fan, so aside form going to 1 game a year in person when i get back to the UK I don’t get to see any games. Is there really a way to watch these games on the TV here in the states?

    • Christopher Harris

      August 25, 2018 at 7:47 am

You can get an annual or monthly international pass through Blues TV where you’ll be able to watch almost every game via streaming, which you can then stream on your TV through either Chromecast or hooking a HDMI cable from your computer to your TV set.

      More info is at https://birminghamfcpayments.streamamg.com/account/register/step1

When Birmingham City are on ESPN+, those games will not be available on Blues TV, so ideally you would have a subscription to ESPN+ too ($5/month).

It hasn’t been disclosed. It could be for as little as one season. BAMTech owns the rights but they sublicensed them to ESPN.

Hello, I live in Adelaide, South Australia, and am an Aston Villa supporter. I have Foxtel Sports and have been able to watch some Championship games on Beinsports. However I cannot see any games coming up on the planner. Could you please tell me whether Foxtel Beinsports are going to be showing the Championship League games particularly the Villa. Is there any other way to be able to watch them?
    Cheers Maurice Mills

      August 3, 2017 at 7:05 pm

According to the EFL, the league is still in advanced negotiations so a decision hasn’t been made yet who will have the rights to the EFL games in Australia.

I would say that you could watch the games via iFollow, but Aston Villa has unfortunately elected not to offer iFollow to its supporters around the world (outside of the UK and Ireland).

In the article it says that Sunderland will not be participating in the streaming. But FuboTV is showing a Sunderland game on Friday. Is FuboTV the best bet for catching Sunderland?

    • Christopher Harris

      August 1, 2017 at 2:21 pm

Sunderland is not participating in the iFollow streaming service from the EFL (English Football League), but anytime their games are televised, beIN SPORTS will show the match either on TV or online (or both).

With Sunderland not participating in iFollow and not launching their own streaming service, your best bet to watch as many Sunderland matches as possible is with fuboTV. The Black Cats won’t be featured every week but they should be shown more often than a lot of other Championship clubs.

      • Tableo

        August 1, 2017 at 2:24 pm

Thanks. The FuboTV thing is a monthly subscription. I don’t see anywhere how much it costs, but I’m guessing about $30 a month(?) If Sunderland are not shown once or twice a month, then their value goes down. I wonder if I can buy on a match by match basis. E.g. when Sunderland win, I’d like to see it. Hopefully this season more than last season!

        • Christopher Harris

          August 1, 2017 at 2:31 pm

You’ll need fubo Premier, which includes beIN SPORTS Connect. fubo Premier is $34.99 per month, but they offer a 7-day free trial so you can see whether it’s a good fit for you.

          Unfortunately a match-by-match subscription option isn’t available.

We should find out in the next few weeks who has the TV rights to the Championship for the 2017/18 season. Last season, it was beIN SPORTS. This coming season, we’ll have to wait and see.

    Hi Christopher,

The Championship Final is always televised, but will there be any US coverage of the 2 leg semi-finals starting on the 13th?

Will we see the League 1 Final on the 20th?

Or the League 2 Semis and Final?

    Cheers,

    • Christopher Harris

The Championship TV schedule was updated earlier today to reflect the playoff games. Both Championship semifinals will be on beIN SPORTS Connect.

There are no plans to show the League Two semi-finals. No word on the final yet.

I’ll update the Championship TV schedule on Thursday night and will at that time know if the League One final will be on beIN SPORTS or beIN SPORTS Connect.

    Chris,

Do you know what the ratings are for Moto America GP? beIN has aired that instead of sort of big Serie A match last weekend and instead of the championship playoff this Saturday.

    • Christopher Harris

      May 8, 2017 at 1:13 pm

I don’t. All I know is that last summer, beIN SPORTS got 71,000 viewers for one MotoGP event in July. But Moto America GP numbers are usually smaller than that. Given what Serie A TV viewership has been, it’s quite possible that Moto America GP may get more viewers than Serie A.

      • Mccort912

        May 8, 2017 at 1:56 pm

Thanks that’s what I figured, shame that they are going away from being all soccer but it makes sense if the ratings aren’t good.

Whilst I’m thankful to BeIn Sports that I can actually now watch Leeds more readily, the standard of their coverage needs major improvements. Fans want to see pre-match lead up, punditry, knowledgeable commentary and a little post-match reaction with Manager interviews. Also, the weekly highlights show should be a little longer and follow a similar format to the BBC’s Match of The Day….a winning format for over 30years! Viewers don’t want to see the scores and league table BEFORE the featured games as it spoils the tension of watching if we’ve managed to avoid the result! The same goes for the back to front and amateur format of the La Liga Highlights Show. Thanks BeIn but please have a think about the format of these shows.

BRENTFORD are the top LONDON Championship team (last season and this) and they get 2 games before Xmas. Do they get a share of the money that is paid to the teams that are televised. If not, how are the teams picked???

    • Christopher Harris

      October 14, 2016 at 9:45 am

S Duggan, Brentford may have the best London-based footballing side in the Championship last season, but the TV fixtures are determined by the TV companies and the EFL. Unfortunately because Brentford have fewer fans than some of the other big clubs in the division, that means that Brentford are shown less often than the likes of Villa, Newcastle, Leeds, Wolves, etc.

All of the teams in the division get a split of the TV revenue, but the more times the team is on TV, the more money they generate.

The list of cable/satellite networks that allow you to access beIN SPORTS Connect (as of today) is AT&T U-verse, Atlantic Broadband, Bright House, COX, DirecTV, DISH, Frontier, Hotwire, Liberty, Mediacom, Optimum, RCN, Time Warner, Verizon and enTouch.

So you should be able to use your Optimum login credentials to access http://beinsportsconnect.tv Just be sure not to use Google Chrome. If it doesn’t work the first time you try logging in, refresh the browser and try again. It usually only works on the second try.

Hi, I was wondering how you get notification when Bein announce their 10am (or other fixtures that aren’t announced well ahead of schedule) fixture for the gameweek? As I am in charge of organising meets for a fan group, I need to know ASAP when our fixtures get announced for TV. Does Bein post this information somewhere in particular? I only ask as I have noticed on this page sometimes this info is available more than a week in advance – but the bein tv guide only stretches forward 6 days.

    • Christopher Harris

      September 1, 2016 at 2:23 pm

Hi Tom, it’s a combination of getting TV schedules directly from beIN SPORTS a couple of weeks ahead of schedule as well as knowing what games are being televised in the UK (hence most of them will be on US TV).

      • Tom

        September 1, 2016 at 4:57 pm

Thanks Christopher. I’m okay for the games that are shown in the UK as SKY have a rule to announce all fixtures 5 weeks in advance. Do you know how I can get the TV schedule directly form bein a couple of weeks in advance?

They must have made a last minute programming change. According to their TV schedule, they’re showing a Championship game from 1.55pm to 2.55pm ET on beIN SPORTS, the main channel. Maybe they’re planning on showing the second half of the game at that time on delay or extended highlights of the whole match?

Their schedule originally said they were showing the game on beIN SPORTS Connect, but it’s not there.

I’m using beinsportsconnnect today. The one other Newcastle game I was able to watch was the first of the season (Fulham) via fubo.tv. That stalled plenty of times. I rarely had that kind of issue withe the NBC Sports service last season.

                  August 27, 2016 at 2:20 pm

There could be a few factors that are contributing to the issues. Your best bet would be to contact fuboTV support via support@fubotv.com. They should be able to problem solve the issue. Sometimes it could be on beIN SPORTS Connect’s end. Hope that helps.

I just checked this out and it looks legit. There is streaming for both Bein Sports and Bein Espanol. Unfortunately, it does not look like you can view programs on demand. You have to stream whatever is on Bein live. Replays of games are available but you have to catch them when they show on the Bein stations. Anyone else use Go90 for Bein Sports?

The Championship only produces 2 or 3 telecasts per week for overseas broadcast, so if you are a fan of a particular club, the best way to get coverage of all your team’s games is to sign up for audio streaming – it’s about $6 per month at current exchange rates. Fulham had free live audio last season

Birmingham City have won the Football League Cup twice – they beat Aston Villa (3-1) in the Final 1962, they also beat Arsenal (2-1) at Wembley 2011. they beat Aston Villa (4-2) in the Q/Final. B’ham City are at moment 6 points ahead of Villa in the Championship, and played them off the Park 2 weeks ago, but drew (1-1) B’ham City scored a goal (not given) which was well over the line. (photographs proved this afterwards) Birmingham City represent the Second biggest City in the UK – and NO team represents London, by the “badge on their shirt”. Aston Villa represent “Aston”, which is only a “District” of Birmingham.

I’m a diehard Newcastle Supporter. I have been loving the NBCSN coverage of the EPL for the past few years. I remember the days of the ONLY EPL game we would get each week was the highlighted game at 6-630am on a Saturday. How much the US coverage of the EPL has changed, is incredible.

Now onto the real point of this comment…my current TV provider is Time Warner Cable & I am subscribed to a package that gives me BeIn Sports, FS1 & FS2. Will I be able to watch all Newcastle games next season? Does BeIn show all Championship games through TV & online? (like that NBCSN online pass does)

Let me know – thank you!

There’s good news and bad news. The bad news is that you won’t be able to watch all of the Newcastle games. Most of the Championship games aren’t shown on television, but approximately 3-4 are each weekend. The good news is that Newcastle will probably be featured more than most teams.

Your best bet is to bookmark this page and then keep on returning to it each week (as we get closer to the season start). This will be the most comprehensive listing of when and where you can watch Newcastle.

Some of the games will be on beIN SPORTS. But some of them will only be available on beIN SPORTS Connect, which is beIN’s streaming service. As a TWC customer, you should be able to access beIN SPORTS Connect at https://beinsportsconnect.tv/index.html If not, let me know and I can provide an alternative link.

Tim, it doesn’t matter. Most of the Championship games aren’t televised on TV.

Great question Simon. Will there be a Championship Review Show, like in the past?

Last season BeIn aired the Skybet highlights show, usually Mon & repeated. It was 30min & featured highlights of matches shown on Sky & goals from other matches. We would watch, but relied on our club site for more immediate & extensive highlights.

I am a Leeds fan and have been living with this for years. You get to see about 10-12 games per year. Sucks! We are in the 21st Century people. When is a Network going to allow customers to choose which matches they want to watch i.e. viewers choice? Not hard. Newcastle and Leeds have huge followings around the globe, however none of the networks accommodate this. Get into the future.
