Watch LaLiga on ESPN

ESPN has two of the cornerstones of European club soccer–Bundesliga and La Liga. While ESPN has picked up a plethora of rights in the last two years from Scotland, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark and many other countries, the acquisition of Spain’s LaLiga rights is a major coup for the broadcaster particularly because the league and beIN SPORTS were locked into an exclusive rights deal through 2024.

As part of a major broadcasting change, ESPN has acquired the U.S. rights to Spain’s LaLiga through 2028-29 in a comprehensive long-term media deal that positions ESPN+ as the number one dedicated sports streaming service. Select matches will air across ESPN networks each season, but 100% of the matches will be available exclusively via ESPN+.

ESPN paid a lot more money to do the Spanish Liga games than Bein sports; are they making money showing the games on ESPN+ ?

BTW, LaLiga just sealed a 5-year domestic contract worth 5 billion Euro, or about $5.6 dollars. First time they’ve been able to do a 5-year deal, gov’t regs apparently limited them to 3-years before.

    www reuters com/markets/europe/spains-laliga-grants-domestic-tv-rights-movistar-dazn-495-bln-euros-2021-12-13/

Interesting note & relevant to the discussions here re: cord-cutting, streaming, etc…
“LaLiga and CVC told Reuters in October that their objective was to recover in the medium-term the number of subscribers to pay TV soccer channels that were lost in Spain in recent years.

According to LaLiga data, subscribers have fallen from four million in 2016-17 to 2.5 million in 2020-21. CVC believe they can reach a figure of 4.4 million.

LaLiga and CVC are betting on building a larger fan base to improve revenues by offering more packages on different platforms for viewers watching soccer in Spain.”

Watching Atletico vs Barcelona in ESPN+/LaLiga I see that the multi-camera view option is a great add-on. The normal camera is used for about 75% of the screen whereas three other cams are put on the lateral part. Not sure if this is used for every big game in laLiga of just a trial for this Atletico-Barcelona game but good for LaLiga. The only issue is that commentators are different for the normal feed (Derek Rae) vs the lady in multi-camera feed. The game itself is quality as expected by two Champions League level teams.

JP, I wish ESPN+ would just show La Liga TV. Great programming, “perfectly fine” commentaries, pre game shows, half time shows, post games shows and a lot cheaper than what they are doing right now!!!!

Moreno is bad, b0th in spanish and english. Palomo is great in spanish, but yeah it just doesn’t transition the same way. Maybe ESPN wants some good pronunciation lol. Advertisement and product placement is key for ESPN as well. Ricky Ortiz and WC winner Kempes are fine on the spanish broadcast.

    September 18, 2021 at 10:40 am

Why ESPN, why?! Why do you subject us to Moreno and this other guy on the Atleti match when there are perfectly fine world feed commentaries available. They truly ruin the experience and making me want to switch back to the rainy/dull Genoa match on P+

FYI, beIN has smartly moved the Atleti match to beIN en Espanol and Barca to beIN Connect, as the Atleti and Real Madrid matches more pressing for the title race.

Looks like Bein Connect have changed their website and now includes on-demand. Click a league and then go to recent matches. Unfortunately it starts with oldest games first and you have to click until you find yesterday’s matches. It does give you option of full match and assorted highlight options, at least it did for yesterday’s Sevilla match. Not sure how quickly they add matches but it was glitch free for the short time I used it.

Chris, the Beinsports site does not list this Saturday’s Barcelona and Leganes games as being broadcast on Beinsport in English. Just on the Spanish language feed. Is that a mistake on their site? It is pretty rare for them not to show Barcelona on the English language channel.

I double-checked with beIN SPORTS and they said their TV guide on their website was incorrect. Both games will be on beIN SPORTS as well as beIN SPORTS en Español. Thanks for checking Barry.

OTA network Azteca America is currently airing Segunda Division games, they started airing them late last season. They aired one on both Saturday and Sunday this week (Malaga vs Las Palmas and Deportivo vs Huesca) . I’m guessing they’re airing them under a deal they made with beIN SPORTS earlier this year. They’re branding the matches as “beIN SPORTS en Azteca” or something like that,

There are a lot of Americans who speak ONLY English & if you want continued support & ratings from our country – you need to make sure that the games are; (1) Televised on Fox or ESPN & (2) That they are in English. I personally like Barcelona and every year I struggle to get a list of when they play ALL of their games from ALL of the leagues that they participate in. Why is that so hard for them to provide for us? Who else can I contact that will make a difference?

    • Christopher Harris

      February 22, 2017 at 5:52 pm

AJ, the page you’re on is the easiest way to find out when Barcelona and La Liga games are on US TV. beIN SPORTS has the rights to the league through 2019, so nothing will change between now and then.

The reason I am worried is that Real is playing in a champions league match on Tuesday – does this mean there is a chance their La Liga game will be moved to Saturday??

    • Soccertvblog

      September 5, 2016 at 2:16 pm

Its guaranteed the match will NOT be on Sunday. All CL participant’s matches are moved up to Saturday on the weekend prior to a CL match (especially for Tuesday matches). As of today, La Liga have announced dates thru October 2nd. I believe you will have an exact kickoff time by mid to slightly late October.

I WANT TO KNOW WICH GAMES ARE BROADCASTED IN ENGLISH! Giving us “bien sports, or bien connect, or even fuboTV” does not tell us if the game is broadcasted in english. I want to subscribe to fuboTV on my apple TV, or maybe even subscribe to bien connect instead, only if I can watch la liga games in english. I’ve been trying for weeks to find out but everywhere i look I only get smoke and not clear answers. I won’t spend a dime if I don’t get a simple answer, and I’m starting to get suspicious that for whatever the reason, bien sports seems to want to keep this as confusing as possible. Please can I just get an answer or a US schedule with shows where, what channels, and what language it will be broadcasted for here in the US.

    • Christopher Harris

      July 27, 2016 at 2:50 pm

All of the games televised on beIN SPORTS are in English. The games on beIN SPORTS en Español are in Spanish. From the games on beIN SPORTS Connect, some are in English and some are in Spanish.

      • David

        July 28, 2016 at 4:27 pm

Does not help me one bit. Your answer is as vague as everything else I can find on the web. I had already understood that “All of the games televised on beIN SPORTS are in English. The games on beIN SPORTS en Español are in Spanish.” That information was crystal clear. What is not clear, what is as confused as possible is which games are going to be in english, and which ones are not. Having a schedule that states the game will be on “bien sports Connect’ does not answer that question, as yourself has stated “From the games on beIN SPORTS Connect, some are in English and some are in Spanish.” Well s***, I knew that, that’s why I asked/ranted in my coments. Thanks for responding though. I do appreciate it, even if my frustration with this is obvious. I’m just not going to subscribe to any service that refuses to be clear and upfront about their product. I know I’m not the only one looking for this. As far as I’m concerned, bien knows damn well people want to know these specifics, but purposely keeps it confusing in order to sucker people into signing up. Thanks for taking time to answer me.

          July 28, 2016 at 4:34 pm

We won’t know until each week which games will be shown in English and which ones in Spanish. We update the TV schedule each week throughout the year when we find the information.

No one is trying to trick you. It’s just that the scheduling of announcers for each game isn’t finalized until approximately one week before each game.

          • AJ

            February 22, 2017 at 4:53 pm

They need to organize a better way to make it more informative for American viewers if they want the support & interest from our country. It’s frustrating to try and locate when your team is playing.

          October 24, 2019 at 3:25 am

Fubotv shows all Bein sports channels that were once id’ed as beinconnect online game feed. Specifically Fubo shows Bein sports 1 in english – always in english no matter the game or league, Beinsports 2 is the spanish beinsporst espanol always, Then Bein sports 3 is a dedicated live Laliga TV feed which is the english broadcast of all laLiga games that weekend – IN ENGLISH LaLiga TV is from spain and in english to all the world. Pregame, post game, highlife shows, and the live games. Grahma hunter and Guillame Beleague( sp? and others do the commentary. The Ray Hudson voice and his buddy are only on Bein sports 1. As for what games are shown on Beinsports 1, the LALIga schedule will always show the live feed of Barca, Real Madrid and Athletic games live – sometimes the french league will come on while another LAliga game will be live on Bein 2 in spanish but not on Bein 1. Spanish league does not schedule many overlapping games, rather they are sequenced and spread out over 3 days, If there is an overlap involving the top 3, Barca and the Madrid teams take precedent usually. Thats what the world wants to see. Fubo is worth it for the LaLiga TV feed which I had never seen until I got Fubotv when Direct Tv dropped Bein sports last year. LaLIga TV is the spanish league production and has nothing to do with Bein sports but since Beinsports has been having issues and losing leagues (Italy went to ESPN) they are using Beinsports 3 for the LALIga feed. Hopefully this makes it clearer what the service offers but the LALIga schedule would be week to week and found online at BEinsports connect. I think subscribing to Beinsports connect does not cost. For me the ethernet cable feed of high speed internet into and Apple TV 4 or better box is the way to go for the most flexible viewing now that Direct has dropped them. I like the DVR better for replay and slow mo and I like the remote better than the Apple . But FUbo showing LaLiga TV is worth it. Its way better than Be INsports. to see what comes on say Bein 4 or 5 one would have to look at Bein online schedule or Fubo online schedule if available for non subscribers. W/respect…
