How to Watch Liga MX Soccer Games Live

Since July 2016, Univision launched 3 live games every Saturday night in primetime in a 6-hour block of Liga MX action. The first game is on Univision Deportes Network, followed by the second and third games on Univision. The name of the Liga MX programming is Sabado Futbolero. Read more details about it.

Starting with the Liga MX’s 2020 Torneo Guardianes that began in July 2020, the league and TUDN have debuted games on Mondays with the debut of Lunes de Fútbol (Soccer Mondays) and telecast live across Univision Networks – Univision, UniMás, and TUDN – and streamed on TUDN.TV and the TUDN app with English-language commentary available via TUDNxtra. The English-language service is only available for select matches.

TUDN struck a long-term agreement with Atlético san Luis to telecast its matches. Therefore, TUDN possesses the rights to 14 of the 18 Liga MX clubs.

In 2020 and moving forward, Telemundo Deportes acquired the English-language and Spanish-language rights to Chivas home games.

FOX Deportes and FOX Sports share the rights with ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ for home games featuring Monterrey, Santos Laguna and Club Tijuana.

About Liga MX

Mexico’s top flight is officially known as the Mexican Primera Division. Founded in 1943, 18 teams battle for supremacy over two separate, but slightly connected, seasons. The first phase of the season is the Apertura, which runs from July to December. The latter portion is the Clausura, lasting from January until May. In both sets, clubs play each other club just once. In total for the two phases, clubs play home and away against the other 17 teams.

After the 17 games in the Apertura and Clausura phases, the top 12 teams in the Liga MX standings enter a playoff stage at the end of both phases. The top four automatically enter the liguilla, which is the end-of-season tournament. The teams occupying spots five to 12 in the table contest a one-game playoff to enter the liguilla phase. Once there, teams play two-legged ties all the way through the final.

Both the runner-up and the champion of both the Clausura and Apertura phases qualify for the next season’s CONCACAF Champions League. In the 2021/22 season, Atlas won both the Apertura and Clausura phases. However, these are, for the most part, separate seasons entirely.

Due to the popularity of the league, there are famous rivalries in Liga MX. Club América and Chivas contest the Clásico de Clásicos twice each year at least. Cruz Azul and Pumas are two other sides that make up the group referred to as Los Cuatro Grandes, the ‘four greats.’

You can also represent your favorite club in the league by wearing a Liga MX or Mexico. World Soccer Shop has kits for the biggest players and clubs in Mexico.

A small note: tonight’s Leon-Puebla game is on TUDN, not on PrendeTV. Also, the America-UNAM second leg will also be shown on Univision.

Hi! Is PrendeTV free? Also, can I watch the Mexico v Honduras game on it Saturday?

      Prende TV is free, yes.

That’s up to the individual clubs. Each club negotiate their own TV deals in Mexico and the US even if Univision has most of the Liga MX licenses state-side.

Has there been any discussion about Liga MX getting a deal done with CBS or Disney tto get all of these matches put on Paramount+ or ESPN+. With all the movement to streaming as of late I’d think someone would pay a pretty penny for what I consider the best League on this side of the pond.

    • Christopher Harris

It’s not available on TV or streaming in English. Spanish-language only via Telemundo.

Has anyone seen the schedule for the play-in games this weekend? I’m especially confused by Sunday. Two different sets of Univision/TUDN listings giving different times/networks for the games, neither of which match the kickoff times on the Liga MX website.

It seems like some TUDN games have been sublet to ESPN Deportes for simulcast.

per WatchESPN’s schedule, they will air the following games this week:

    Mazatlan-Cruz Azul
    Atlas-Pachuca
    Toluca-Santos

I’d settle for not having the giant black frame around the tiny picture.

I have a 32 inch and it’s like watching on a portable TV.

Are select Liga MX matches still available on FS1/FS2 for English viewers?

    • Christopher Harris

      July 13, 2020 at 3:48 pm

Yes, usually on FS2. Unfortunately with FOX Sports, they don’t promote the Liga MX games they do have, so we often find out at the last minute. As soon as we hear anything, we update the above TV schedule.

In case you have as hard a time finding it as I did, here is the url for TUDN’s English language Liga MX stream: https://www.tudn.com/liga-mx-livestream

I was excited to watch Liga MX in English, but they have the crowd noise turned down so low that I’m thinking of going back to watching it in Spanish, especially when the commentators aren’t educating viewers on the players’ and teams’ backstories. That’s the whole reason I want to watch Liga MX in English: I want to learn and understand.

I use to have futbol tv for 19.99 all I want is Mexico soccer. They tell me it’s 54.99 to much just for soccer. Then I got TUDN with Univision’s now for 10.99 now it’s gone. What can I do I don’t want cable or satellite?

As of right now, the game will not be televised.

        July 19, 2019 at 1:54 pm

ESPN Mexico has the TV rights for San Luis most likely games would be on ESPN 2 and espn deportes

        • Christopher Harris

          July 19, 2019 at 3:26 pm

But ESPN Mexico is different than ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes, so there’s no guarantee that any of the ESPN channels will get the U.S. rights to the games.

Any word of who had the TV rights for Chivas since Univision lost TV rights ???

Hello, I’m trying to get into the Liga MX, and I would love to find a way to view it in English. I’ve heard you can on Facebook, but I’ve scoured Facebook and cannot find how to do it, or where I can find it. Do you think you can give me the link for Liga MX in English? Thanks, I really like your website.

    • Christopher Harris

      January 8, 2018 at 5:13 pm

Select Liga MX games are shown live in English via the Univision Deportes Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/UnivisionDeportes/ Best bet is to follow that page for updates on the next games in English.

Why wouldn’t MEXvUSA be on the FOX network especially on a Sunday?

    • Christopher Harris

      May 8, 2017 at 1:14 pm

It depends what other programming is on at the same time. It’s always possible that FOX may move the game to the FOX network. Officially, FOX hasn’t announced what channel the game will be on. Our best guess at this moment is FS1.
