Considering that beIN Sports is not doing well, could GolTV shut down too? If so, could ESPN buy the KVNB Cup and Portuguese League? And could the Uruguay and Ecuador league go to CBS? I am wondering if GolTV will shut down now that beIN Sports is not doing well.

I was wondering Chris if Gol Tv is still the tv rights holder of Primera Liga this year for 2021-22 or is it another streaming rights holder in the us. I believe the Portuguese league cup starts this weekend and then the Portuguese Supercup next week. Then in two weeks it’s the league. Unbelievable it’s how quick the Primera starts so quickly again, by the way Viva Sporting finally we won 20 years emotionally for my dad and sadly my poor Grandfather who could not see this he passed away 15 years ago even before their last championship. Thank you Chris for the work on your podcast and your partner Kartik also.

Anyone else go to Fanatiz today to watch the replay of the Porto match only to discover that no replay is available? Like, they had one job!

I followed up with Fanatiz, and they explained that GolTV video-on-demand is not available. They air VOD from beIN SPORTS, TyC Sports, Real Madrid TV and Sevilla TV.

I can hardly wait for the Portuguese League to come back. I’ve been watching replays of the current season’s matches on GolTV the past 4 weeks and they’ve been quite good.

Thank God for Fanatiz. Only $10.00 a month for the Portuguese league (GolTV). Fubo TV now wants to force people to pay $55.00 for channels they don’t need, plus another $20 for Portuguese soccer. WOW! Fubo TV is no longer a service for “Cord Cutters”. Just another cable service in disguise.

GolTV’s rights include the Benfica home games, so no need for BenficaTV. The Benfica-Belenenses game this Saturday is listed on Gol TV’s schedule.

I remember back in 2012 after Goltv lost US TV rights to LaLiga and cable and SAT dropped Goltv, many folks (including on this site) predicted Goltv would no longer exist within two years. Five years later, they’re still around. Can’t watch the channel, but they still exist. It’s really to bad that Cable & SAT’s just don’t carry all channels that show Football (Soccer). Just put them all on a Sports/Soocer package, including the Spanish language one’s (ESPN Deportes, FOX Deportes, etc).

GOLTV now has U.S. rights to Portuguese League matches in English and Spanish, as Univision Deportes Network no longer has room for Portuguese League after taking over the U.S. TV rights to all 7 Liga MX teams controlled by TV Azteca/Grupo Salinas (in addition to the rights of 5 Liga MX teams controlled by Televisa, the rights to 2 Liga MX teams controlled by Grupo Imagen, the rights to 2 Liga MX teams controlled by Carlos Slim/Grupo Pachuca, and the U.S. rights to home matches of Chivas Guadalajara.)

They can just show games on Fridays and mondays and early on the weekends they just don’t want to fork over the cash for rights

Correct. fuboTV has the streaming rights, and Univision Deportes shows the occasional game on TV. But that’s it.

Its pretty hard to argue that Barcelona is inferior to any team, but it has a lot to do with the referees and what they allow/tolerate. Put Barca against most English teams and physically the English Teams would destroy the Spanish team and its compatriots. Yet if they were playing in Spain, the very physical smash mouth soccer you see in English football would results in so many yellow cards that the teams would be decimated. An then there are all the others each with its own style, temperament and temperance. I find all of them entertaining but get most enthused about the English and Spanish teams.
