Columbus Crew

Everton & Columbus draw 1-1

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Everton v Queens Park Rangers - Goodison Park

In a match that tested even the patience of even the most interested viewer, EPL side Everton looked flat and out of form in a draw with MLS bottom feeders Columbus. James Beattie one of the best attacking players in recent years of EPL play looked to be suffering from the midsummer doldrums, while Columbus showed the nation why they have not won a match in almost two months. The Crew lack the talent it appears to make any impact down the stretch in the MLS season.

The fans at Crew Stadium seemed more interested in taunting Aussie World Cup star Tim Cahill, Everton’s starting attacking midfielder then in trying to spur their side to a winning goal. This was a very disappointing night for Soccer in Ohio.

I was pleased with the result but in truth the Crew was dominated and totally outclassed. Everton’s finishing was poor because after all it was their first friendly after a summer vacation for all in the attack besides Tim Cahill.

Jacob Thomas showed some talent for Columbus.

It’s not surprising to learn he played for eight seasons in Germany (2nd & 3rd div.).

The match was terrible but what did you expect from a bad mls team and an out of form english team that had only one or two world cup players?

We also learned that Columbus has a fair share of Liverpool fans who wanted to taunt the Everton squad and fans!

I am joyed to see that Everton had such a difficult time defeating a lowly American side. The quality of Everton is severly lacking and though they signed Andy Johnson from Palace to pair with Beattie at the top, I doubt they have the midfield or defensive quality to do much of anything in the EPL this upcoming season. David Moyes may be searching for new employement come April 2007.

Don’t kid yourself Hernandez. Everton would crush the Crew if this wasn’t the first exhibition game they were playing and if the Crew were not in the middle of their season.

how about bottom mls team draws with legendary european side. will you at some point give mls credit. we have built a better league than most in a short period. chivas has gotten a late draw on a claudio suarez goal to even real salt lake 3-3. cunningham scored a few for rsl. suarez was able to stay in shape in this leeague even at 37 and make the world cup for los tres colores.

club america will defeat everton on saturday and dc united will give real madrid a tough match. chivas guadlajara will defeat barca and perhaps the red bulls can give barca a nice match should djorkaeff come back into the starters.
