A Dark Day in the History of Leeds United

I keep using the word “unbelievable” to describe so many of the events this past weekend in football whether it was Man United’s comeback win against Everton, or the unbelievable (in a disgusting sense) developments at Elland Road.

To relive the moments that happened to Leeds after the debacle of the pitch invasion and the chaos with the teams coming back on the pitch 30 minutes later plus all of the stories (players getting out of the shower to be told they had to go back on the pitch and play), listen to the following audio from BBC Radio Humberside (and BBC Leeds).

How stupid was the referee to resume the game after the pitch invasion? As former Leeds legend Eddie Gray said in the commentary when Leeds came back on the pitch, “rubbish.”

I think the game should have been called after such a massive pitch invasion. The ref was potentially endangering the players by restarting to play out that 1 minute of time.

Sad day for Leeds fans but I think if Wise is left in charge that he’ll get Leeds back into the Championship next season.

I still cannot believe Leeds will be in the 3rd flight of English Football. I hope for them it is a short stay like we experienced at Man City. Had we not won that dramatic playoff game in 1999 to return to the then 1st division after being relegated the previous year we may never have made it back up to the EPL.
