2008 Community Shield On Fox Soccer Channel In U.S.

fox-soccer-channel2.jpgFox Soccer Channel will be broadcasting this season’s Community Shield featuring Manchester United against Portsmouth. The game will be televised live and shown at 10am ET on Sunday, August 10th.

The match has been the traditional opener to the new season and pits the winner of the Premier League against the winner of the FA Cup Final. The game will be played at Wembley Stadium.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth and Man United play together today in a friendly in Tinapa, Nigeria. The clubs are reportedly earning between £1.5 to £2 million each.

In last year’s Community Shield, Manchester United beat Chelsea on penalties after ending the 90 minutes at 1-1.

What are your thoughts about this summer’s Community Shield match? With Portsmouth playing, does it make the final more exciting because an underdog is involved?

ManU created more chances than we did. We’re still figuring out how to get the ball to Crouchie and Defoe. Too many long balls in, which are too easy to defend, plus neither one is particularly good with his head. We more than held our own in midfield and David James was outstanding. Both teams having played the night before made the match pretty slow at times.

I’ll be watching the Community Shield on whichever channel the pub chooses. I might bring my laptop and watch it on PFCtv at the same time.

My prediction: 1-1 Pompey wins on PKs.

    PLAY UP POMPEY!!!
    POMPEY PLAY UP!!!

I agree with you. If I have to watch anymore Barca TV from 1994, I am going to go crazy!

Manchester United won the Community Shield preview today 2-1 over Pompey. Goals from Chris Eagles and Carlos Tevez while Defoe picked up one for Portsmouth.

Good, ’cause I’m losing it with FSC airing Dream Team and Barcelona “classics” with that awful dubbed commentary.

Don’t really care about the CS, Pompy always give United fits but either way it means nothing for United. I would like to see Pompey win it instead of United. Its always nice to see any team who isnt United, Arseanl, Liverpool or Chelski win a trophy.

Setanta Sports in North America is showing the match live as well. Given the match is on Setanta in the UK, I think Setanta here will go with their in-house feed while FSC goes with the international broadcast. It would be interesting to compare the two.
