Video Footage Of Crewe Alexandra’s Gresty Road From 1979

I realize Crewe Alexandra isn’t a Championship football team any longer (they’re now in League Two), but Crewe has a rich history in English football and were recently in the Championship. Thanks to TheOriginalWinger, they uncovered this incredible video of what Gresty Road looked like in 1979.

In the 1979 BBC Great Railway Journeys of the World documentary, a shot over Gresty Road filmed from the roof of the adjacent Rail House moved Michael Palin to describe Crewe as “like those other railway towns, Swindon and Doncaster, possessed of a football team which is perpetually propping up the bottom of the Fourth Division.”

This is much-watch video if you can want to see how a football ground from the lower leagues looked in the late 1970s.
