subscribe-to-podcast1

It was a relatively slow mid-week, with the typical slate of Champions League action giving way to the U.S. Open Cup final. On this edition of the Major League Soccer Talk podcast, Christopher Riordan and myself talk about Tuesday’s match at Qwest, asking how much people should care about the U.S. Open Cup final. Then we discussion Los Angeles’s win at Philadelphia before turning to the U.S. Men’s National Team’s game against Poland and the weekend’s schedule in Major League Soccer.

I’m listening to the end of the podcast right now. You keep refering to “we know” who is the play-offs, but Colorado plays Dallas, LA, and RSL in the last three games.

Question for Chris is: Why did you not do any research on the Polish team? You should know something about the teams you are talking about. You are the one on the talk show. People listen to the show to get some incite into the competition they are about to watch or have just watched. If you are lucky enough to have an audience, you should have something to offer. Do your homework homeboy.

Richard: Brek Shea? Really? My first thought of who I wanted to see was Jones and Holden and how they might be incorporated into BBs lineup. Holden has been playing very well at Bolton. That would have been a great conversation point to bring up. Brek Shea doesn’t deserve your top billing at this point. It might have been nice to see him on the field for the last 5-10min but the real story is Jones & Holden and what Bradley is going to do differently this game if anything.

Also it wouldn’t hurt to bring in a third commentator who doesn’t always agree with your opinions (both of you). Possibly someone who has a more positive or less skeptical point of view.

for the love of holy Zeus will you please quit calling them “Real Salt Lake City” … the name of the team is REAL SALT LAKE period, end of, no CITY. now the team plays in the metropolitan area known as Salt Lake City, UT but the team’s name DOES NOT INCLUDE the word CITY.

it is just as annoying as foreign broadcasters calling them the Kansas Wizards.

How often has a team won both the MLS Cup and the US Open Cup in the same year? That kind of cinderella year would definitely lead to more bragging rights than just the MLS cup.

I know it went by earlier (when Sounders, ahem, destroyed Portland), but another thing to think about is the coming inclusion of Portland and Vancouver into MLS. The US Open cup still functions as the best legitimate way for regionally close teams to compete in separate leagues.

I can easily see (I’m a Colorado fan) zero points in that. KC’s schedule I’m forgetting, but it is a bit easeir (they play DC this weekend). My point- it is not over just yet.

      Hi Tom:

Technically, of course, you’re right. This is as much a running theme from an earlier show, where Chris and I said we weren’t going to talk about KC being alive unless they’re still in it in the last week(s).
