Just when you thought that the new owners of Blackburn Rovers, the Venky’s, couldn’t stoop to any new lows, they’ve done it again. This time it’s with an absolutely embarrassing video of their players promoting chicken.
The video is so bad that it looks like something you would expect NASL footballers from the late 70s to be promoting Kentucky Fried Chicken or something like that. But for a club with the history and tradition of Blackburn to be subjected to such commercialization is disgusting.
The new owners of Blackburn have been talking a good game about signing star players, but nothing has materialized. And they were reportedly contemplating renaming Ewood Park as Venky’s Stadium at one point, but this chicken commercial is an absolute disgrace.

why is it embarasing or a disgrace? the venkys product is good, its healthy, it fits with the sports lifestyle of fitness. And of course the new owners are using the playing to promote their brand! which sponsor buys out a team for the love of the game?? Anyways its not like the rovers are an A-list team. They still have a long way to go and thankfully they have a sponsor in the first place! @ The Gaffer – i think yours is a personal opinion – maybe you have something against the new owners? have an open mind. see the good.

I agree with you, there is no shame in the product or a spot of advertising. Venkys need to fund the team and that can only be done by promoting the brand that pays for it.
I think it was great that even at the end of the season with all the relegation talk, Venkys said they would stand by the team no matter what. I would rather have them than some of the billionaires that own the top club who seem to have bought them to but and sell for their own egos any day.

I think this article is overreaction, Gaffer. This is merely a commercial, which in today’s world, has become an essential source of revenue for the clubs. To call it “absolute disgrace” is bit overblown, I feel. Over the years we have been watching atheletes promoting numerous products. How is this different from Beckham promoting Pepsi or Manutd promoting Airlines?

Hmm, Gaffer – so players hawking betting sites, crisps, sports drinks and lager – is somehow more dignified? Outside of animal rights activists, I really don’t see a problem.
If the Venkys were Swedish or German, would it be such a low?

I find nothing wrong with this. The Venky’s are good people. Blackburn is lucky to have them. There aren’t enough rich Englanders to own them anyway.

Hopefully it’s only meant for the Indian market so it’s killing two chickens with one stone really. They promote the team and the chicken, which to be fair looked kinda tasty (the chicken that is) even though the team looked….. Well I leave that up to the individual.

gaffer, it’s not that bad at all. They’re having a laugh. The Venky’s are injecting alot of money- or intend to, anyway- and it’s a group of players expressing pride in their owners.

well commercial is mainly keeping in mind Indian audience so it may look odd for other viewers and the are just using the team to sell their product.

Well, yes and no. I mean “embarrassing” is one thing, I’m sure they got paid.
But at least they didn’t have to wear “AIG” on their shirts for 18 months after the company helped sink the global economy like ManU did.
Now THAT was embarrassing.

Compare how United’s commercial turned out with Turkish Airlines with the above.

We’ve reported the news on EPL Talk’s Twitter and Facebook accounts regarding Aguero meeting with Manchester City, but according to the club, nothing is official yet (despite Aguero’s tweets). We’re waiting for official word before running the story.

Wow. This makes the “Sportsdirect@StJames” thing look respectable. If I was in Blackburn I’d be absolutely incensed that such a venerable old institution was being whored out in such a degrading fashion. We’ve learned to live with Sponsors and partnerships if that means revenue for players and facilities, but for Blackburn it just appears that Venky’s are using rovers image to peddle their own garbage with no benefit to the club whatsoever. Going down and making themselves look cheap while doing it at this stage I’m afraid, Steve Kean talking about Champions league football looks more like a joke than before unless they start spending.
