Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal with Barcelona to sign David Villa pending the Spanish striker passing a medal and agreeing personal terms, Atletico said today.
The news will come as a blow to Tottenham Hotspur who were strongly linked with signing the 31-year-old striker. In addition to Spurs, Arsenal were also linked earlier in the summer.
Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo reported in the last 24 hours that Tottenham’s bid for Villa was described as “ridiculous.”
If and when the deal goes through, it’s another major signing by a foreign club outside of the Premier League this summer. It looks likely that English clubs will miss out on Edinson Cavani, Robert Lewandowski and David Villa, as well as already missing out on Radamel Falcao, Neymar, Isco, Joao Moutinho and others.
Tottenham will join the race again to try to find a high-profile striker to sign this summer. There’s still plenty of time, but the stars are beginning to wrap up their deals.

He is certainly better than all of the forward playing players for Spurs bar Bale. Dempsey costed 6 milliin and Davir Villa a man with 2 euro cups a world cup ucl and 2 la ligas and the all time spanish leading goal scorer costs 2 mil + another 2 mil in add ons. 4 million in total. Its not only the english players that are overrated.

I think he must have wanted to stay in Spain.
If not, and he could have been had for 2mm euros, I do wish spurs had taken the risk – well worth the potential upside at that price.

Dreams? Was more like a nightmare for me. Don’t think he’d find oppositions like Tahiti in The Prem and score against anyone else, so maybe Levy did right by missing out on this one.

I suspect there are reasons he wanted to go to Atletico. Champions League football, staying closer to home, and being able to make his case for a place in the World Cup squad next summer in the spotlight of the Spanish media.
Given what Spurs have spent on players in the past 2.1 million would have been extremely reasonable for David Villa. It seems more a case of him wanting to go elsewhere.

Villa make a statement, apparently Villa have released a statement saying Benteke has put in a transfer request and is not traveling with villa on tour to Germany.
Lambert is said to be disappointed….

Good. One less foreign mercenary. Looks like the EPL is no longer the top draw it once was. Maybe clubs might develop their own players a bit more.

Very well said Dust, a lot of the so called sports writers are pathetic and the agents. They suck off of our clubs like leeches and earn a fortune from it, while the average fan has to pay more each year. Oh, I nearly forgot and the bookmakers – the rats, who had Villa And Higuain odds-on to join Spurs and Arsenal respectively! Time to wake up fans?

As normal, rumor and conjecture, no real sources, fans, (myself included this time) fall for it…but there is no evidence that Spurs even bid on him. Perhaps they enquired and that was enough to start the rumors?
After reviewing all the places twitter accounts I’d seen the rumor about this, it turns out its from the same people that said this was “almost done” “we bid 8m which isn’t as much as what Barca want”
What a load of bollox, he went for 2.1m euro’s with 2m as add-on’s a year from now IF he is still at the club…etc.. These are the same people that said he was a makeweight in a deal for Rooney…
As a fan its easy to get sucked in to the rumor mill, like Farsenal fans right now believing the deal for Higuain was gonna happen on friday, Now Perez the pres of RM has come out and said they haven’t received a bid yet lol…
Its all such bollox and at some point, no matter how hard you try to resist believing this bollox they get you.
