I have to say, while I know that cable and dish have a lot of problems (primarily cost), none of these streaming services has tempted me yet to switch, and part of that is the price. When you combine the cost for these higher level packages plus the cost of internet service (as a standalone, not part of the package deal with cable), you’re venturing into territory price-wise that’s not all that different from what you’re paying with cable or dish, while also likely giving up some key elements (for me, that would be DVR service and broadcast network channels).

I’ve been using DirecTV Now, and it has many problems. It’s going to take a while, before they have it working as it should. Local channels are only available in a small number of cities. People are reporting many problems with VOD, such as shows that will only play for 10 minutes. The 72 hour rewind feature provides almost nothing so far.
Sports has been a big problem from day one. Many regional sports networks are missing. All of the RSN overflow channels are missing. I get CSN Chicago, but not CSN Chicago + or CSN Chicago + 2. If two or three local teams are playing at the same time, only one will be available. DirecTV Now does not give you access to the NBC Sports or Fox Sports Go apps. Without the NBC Sports app, you won’t have access to the English Premier League games on NBC Premier League Extra Time. Out of the next 30 Premier League games, 12 are on Premier League Extra Time. You cannot watch NBC on any streaming device, such as Apple TV or Fire TV. You can only watch NBC on a computer, phone, or tablet.
Many people that should be getting their local RSN, are not able to get it. This issue has been resolved for some people, but not everyone. Customer support for DirecTV Now is only available by chat, and it’s very very poor. Incorrect sports blackouts has been another issue. At least two NFL games have been incorrectly blacked out. Some people have had sports on their local RSN incorrectly blacked out as well.
The picture quality on DirecTV Now is very good. Most people seem to think it’s better than Sling TV or Playstation Vue. However, many people are having problems with the picture freezing up. Some people have more problems than others. It seems to happen more often during prime time. I can watch without any issues at times, but other times it’s really bad. I watched a German match on Fox Sports 1, and I had no problems for 89:40 of the game. From there, it was nothing but trouble. It took almost ten minutes to get to 93:08, and it would go past that point. The problem is with DirecTV Now. It’s not just a problem of slow Internet access at the customer end.
For the most part, I like the service. They need to improve the problems with the picture freezing as soon as possible. This is the biggest problem with the service. They also need to fix the problems with the regional sports networks, and add the overflow RSN networks.
The current deal is very good. Pay $105 for three months, and get a free Apple TV (Gen 4 32 GB-$150 value). For that, you get over 100 channels (which is the $60/month package). You get to keep the $60 package for just $35, for as long as you subscribe. I don’t think they promise that the price won’t go up, just that you will keep getting the extra channels. I cut the cord a while ago, so this is pretty good for me.

I believe you read my mind on this. It drives me nuts the freezing up. It doesn’t matter if I am using the iPad, Windows computer, or the Apple TV it happens all the time. Major problem

What if you are already a DirecTV subscriber do you have access to it?

Are there any DVR features if you miss a game?

It’s a different service than DirecTV, the satellite company. So you won’t have access to it unless you sign up for DirecTV Now.

DVR features aren’t available yet but they will be in the future.

DVR functionality is now available (as of May 15, 2018).
