In the second major departure for beIN SPORTS this summer, presenter Kay Murray has announced she’s leaving the sports network.
Speaking to World Soccer Talk, Murray revealed she’s moving to the Northeastern United States to explore new opportunities.
While it’s certainly a smart move by Murray, her decision to leave beIN SPORTS is another blow to the broadcaster who continues to suffer the financial impact of not being televised by the two biggest distributors in the United States — Comcast and DIRECTV. Murray’s move, which follows on the heels of fellow presenter Kevin Egan deciding to leave, will leave a hole at beIN SPORTS as the sports network is readying to televise the last season of its TV deal with LaLiga for the 2019/20 season.

Prior to joining beIN SPORTS, Murray worked at Real Madrid TV and BoroTV as well as co-hosting the FIFA Ballon d’Or awards alongside Ruud Gullit. At beIN SPORTS, Murray was a familiar face on broadcasts of LaLiga as well as hosting The XTRA and The Locker Room. She quickly established herself as a knowledgeable and charming host, where she regularly worked alongside analysts such as Gary Bailey, Thomas Rongen, Ray Hudson and others.

. . . and all of the replacement studio fare launched in the wake of Kay Murray’s departure is hideous. I wish Ms. Murray (and Kevin Egan) the very best in their forthcoming endeavors: Murray, in particular, is an exceptional talent. I wonder what this portends for the future of global sport and Stateside broadcast markets. ESPN needs to have Kay Murray be a studio host for the EURO 2020 Championship. It would be awesome if they did that. Kate Riley from CNN World Sport would also be a great choice.

Kay Murray should replace Kate Abdo on TNT’s UCL coverage and on Fox Sports especially if Fox keeps the Bundesliga. Kay Murray has a pair of nice legs. A beautiful girl for sure.

Beyond the physical features she’s a far, far better moderator/TV personality. Abdo’s spastic….and most of the time lost as if she doesn’t know where the director is.

I have BeIN Connect. Why can’t I find The Locker Room or The Xtra to watch on BeIN Coinnect? It was the entire reason i purchased it monthly.. I was thinking they took off for the summer? I just searched and there is a show now called The Soccer Express at 5 EST?

I believe the Locker Room is being replaced with Weekend Winners, with Hope Solo co-hosting. Kay is gone; Kevin is gone; I believe the Locker Room is also -very sadly -gone. I’ll miss all those guys-Bobo, Ray, Adres, Kay, and the wooden bow-tie. 🙁

The Locker Room will continue in Spanish on Mondays at 5PM ET. But beIN SPORTS, in English, have added a new show called Magisterial with Ray Hudson and Kaylyn Kyle, which will air every Monday at 7:30PM ET. That show has replaced The Locker Room in English-language.

That’s a shame, The Locker Room was one the best soccer centric show we had, IMO. Thought they could’ve kept it going even without Kay. The show wasn’t as good during the times she couldn’t host, but out of the replacements (Gary, Jeremy, etc) Andres Cordero did the best in keeping it free flowing and had that camaraderie with the panel like Kay.
Will have to check out these new shows.

Weekend Winners was a bit awkward. Just going through various lists like top goals, saves, what team performed best, etc followed by a brief discussion. If you’ve already watched The Soccer Xtra during the weekend then this show is mostly a recap of lists or clips you’ve already seen. Hope Solo and Jeremy St Louis paired together works well though. With some tweaks in the format, focusing more on the clubs or players who surprised most during the weekend, and analyzing that might be interesting rather than the filler of goals/saves etc.
Magisterial was better. Kind of a casual The Locker Room where only Ray and Thomas are on the panel and hosted by Kaylyn instead of Kay.
They could do without the cartoonish graphics for the show’s title as the discussion here seems more analytical than what is on Weekend Winners, which oddly has the more professional graphics.
As for The Soccer Xtra, they definitely need to make that an hour program rather than just a half hour to go through all the highlights, coaches corner, and discussion. Half hour seems rushed.

And they can’t treat EPL as if it doesn’t exist yet show hi lites from Segunda & Turkish Super League neither of which is in the same universe as EPL. And after last season, when the 4 finalists in Europe’s 2 major tournaments, Champions & Europa were all from EPL, seems like right now no league in the continent can match them.

yes, I remember all those meaningless la liga games picked over big serie A or Ligue 1 games. pretty soon they won’t need connect channels at all.

I think they took the summer off and towards the end of last season they where only doing Locker Room on Mondays and Fridays and the Xtra on weekends.
If these shows do not start back when La Liga starts back, the rumors about beIN going dark may be true.

Looked ahead two weeks and still don’t see The Locker Room scheduled on beIN, you’d think it would start to at least coincide with La Liga starting this Friday. No The Xtra either except for ‘The Soccer Xtra’ at 5pm EST on Saturday and Sunday….no more weeknight Xtra’s? They brought in Kaylyn Kyle as part of that show, more of an analyst than presenter so doesn’t seem to be a Kay Murray replacement as of yet. Jeremy St Louis was the host. Still think Andres Cordero better suited to host, but he understandably needs a break since calling most of the matches.
There is a new show “Weekend Winners” at 7pm Monday’s (after La Liga’s 1st opening weekend)
beIN En Espanol still has The Locker Room though

I agree, it was good. Half hour seems like it will be too short though when La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A start. Not enough time for all the highlights and analysis like they gave for Ligue 1 and PL this weekend.
Interested to see that the “Weekend Winners” show will be all about. Maybe it will be a replacement for The Locker Room if it doesn’t return (not scheduled this Friday (La Liga starts) or Monday (when Weekend Winners premiers).

Imo, BeinSports USA won’t disappear or go away. This was the same thought back in 2012 when Goltv lost the rights to La Liga and Phil Schoen, Ray Hudson and Andres Cordero left Goltv to go to BeinSports USA. Many people predicated it would be the end for Goltv. They are is still around and I believe DirecTV and AT&T U-Verse still carry them.

Unfortunately that won’t keep them relevant, kind of like Goltv after losing La Liga then Bundesliga. Only extremely hard core fans care about the current matches on Goltv.
I don’t know what they can do. Shift more to motor sports? MotoGP is actually fun to watch. Shift to sports foreign to most US audiences such as handball to TV rather than Connect? Also interesting to watch. Shift to more lower tier college conferences and sports?
Don’t know, but it will be difficult for them. Amazing they once had La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Championship, League Cup (Caribeau?), Coppa Italia, Copa Del Rey, etc. So much content many matches had to be joined in progress or shown later on delay!

Sad for beIN, their only sin was not having the backing of a media conglomerate that could demand carriage for their ratings deprived sports network (CBS! FS2! ESPNU!) in exchange for access to their more popular entertainment networks.
