B/R Live to broadcast Champions League games in US pubs

Turner Sports has reached an agreement with Premium Sports to make UEFA Champions League games from B/R Live available to commercial establishments such as pubs, bars and restaurants.

That means that more UEFA Champions League games can be made available to soccer fans in the United States who want to watch out-of-home broadcasts of the most popular club soccer tournament in the world. Last season, a maximum of two English-language broadcasts were available on any given matchday via TNT. But starting this season, commercial establishments have the opportunity to air all eight Champions League games per day.

Bars, pubs and restaurants who sign up for the license to broadcast B/R Live in commercial establishments will also be able to air games from the Europa League and other leagues and competitions.

According to Turner Sports, as viewer habits continue to change, out-of-home viewing remains an important audience segment and this deal will provide for popular bars and restaurants the ability to show thousands of live sporting events available through B/R Live’s expansive portfolio. It is also a notable opportunity for bars and restaurants to show the complete range of key UEFA fixtures, which they can use to attract the passionate world soccer fanbase to their establishments.

Premium Sports is one of the largest independent commercial sellers of sports content.

Businesses interested in learning more and signing up can reach out to brlivesupport@turner.com. This B2B offering is available to commercial establishments in the United States and Canada.

The Sports Illustrated use to have a segment called “Sign of the Apocalypse”. Today, I got NBC offer to pay for NBC Sports Gold and watch 2019 Rugby World Cup and IAAF (Track and Field) World Championships. And that is “an inconvenient truth” about presentation of sports on US networks: if is not for college football on Saturdays or NFL on Sundays, one way or another, you must pay for it.

You really paid the $200 or whatever NBC wants for Rugby WC?

No, I didn’t. But someone, probably did. I think there are more exciting things in life than “exclusive excess” to Australia vs Fiji game or 3,000 m steeplechase race. My point is: if you are devoted soccer fan living in USA, forget on “regular” TV. To watch your favorite team or league you must pay some kind of additional subscription to watch it.

I signed up for B/R Live for the first time. It’s just ten bucks for a month so I thought I’d give it a try. Of the three streaming services I use to cast games to my TV B/R Live has far more dropouts and buffering than either Sling or ESPN+. I do like that all the games are archived, but I wish there was a fast forward and backward mechanism.

All I am interested in are the Champions League matches, So $30 gets me the entire set of group stage games. If the schedule for the knockout stages is similar to last year $20 will cover almost all the matches that are not on TV.

Between Sling, ESPN+, and B/R Live I’m spending $30 a month for the entire Champions League, and the first divisions in Italy, Spain, and France. Personally I think that’s a great deal, although I understand some will not agree.

Hey Chris, I’d thought I’d mention this in time for your next podcast: B/R live now includes LFC TV, Spurs TV, and Arsenal TV as part of the soccer annual pass.
Its bittersweet because I’ve already bought a year of LFC tv via their website prior to the season. But it’s good for your other readers and listeners to know.

Does B/R ever discount the consumer version of the season pass?

I have to give credit to B/R Live & TNT for 1 thing only. They have some good 5 minute highlights on YouTube. I have relied on those highlights as I’m working during the day. I wish TNT would at least have a highlights show on TV for people to watch like Fox Sports used to have. I remember Fox had a highlights show on it’s regional networks as well from both the UCL & UEL. I guess those days are long over.

Well they cannot sell B/R Live to consumers like ESPN have sold their streaming service ESPN + , So they have no choice , will it pack the pubs on Tuesday & Wednesday afternoons and Thursday for the Europa League we will have to wait and see . Suppose they will continue to deny ESPN highlights of the games on their channels . Would it not be better to do a deal with ESPN to allow advertising on ESPN channels about The Champions League & Europa League on B/R live like they have with NBCSN . They would have a far bigger audience to attract to . Allow ESPN to show highlights as part of the bargain

Commercial establishments in Canada? Wouldn’t they be using the DAZN Canada feed of the Champions League and Europa League.?

B/R Live & TNT need to start showing the UEFA Champions League & UEFA Europa League on TBS & TruTV. HLN is also available as the network stops with news coverage at 2PM ET and has reruns of Forensic Files all day. Don’t tell me soccer wouldn’t generate revenue on either of the networks I mentioned. I wish Turner Sports would change it’s mind.

This could change after the deal expires in 2021 to start a new deal to show multiple networks thought out the season of showing more on tv. I don’t know if they can do that starting in 2021 or renew the rights. Turner sports expires in 2021

Unfortunately they don’t care about ratings, all they want is to sell B/R Live subscriptions.

        September 18, 2019 at 10:49 pm

You’re wrong. They do care about ratings. Castle re-runs on TNT deliver higher ratings than Europa League group matches.

The other problem is, TNT is not a sports network, If it were perhaps it would be a different story. B/R Live now has extended highlights on YouTube from the Champions League. I watched it, all the games. Check it out, If you have time. Hopefully B/R Live also uploads extended highlights from the Europe League.

Says in article they will have Europa league as well. Thought I was only one who enjoyed big western European clubs battle for their life against a smaller eastern European team
