Berlin (AFP) – Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Buerki will leave to join MLS side St Louis City SC at the end of the season, the Bundesliga club confirmed Wednesday.
The 31-year-old has not made a first-team appearance this campaign and received permission to leave with a year left on his contract.
“It was an honour to be able to play for this awesome club for seven years,” Buerki said in a statement.
“I will always remember not only the (German Cup final) wins in 2017 and 2021, but all the good and difficult times we experienced together.”
Swiss ‘keeper Buerki played 232 times for Dortmund, who he joined in 2015, but lost his place to Gregor Kobel and his last appearance was in May 2021.
He has signed a three-year contract with St Louis, where he will link up with their German sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel.
“We’re delighted to have a top international goalkeeper like Roman joining,” said Pfannenstiel. “His experience will be a huge benefit.”

Was interrupted. The story is about the new St. Louis team who have signed several players already and are building a good core. Nashville, Austin and now Charlotte have built up good foundations for their new teams and are becoming competitive. On the other hand you have Cincinnati and Miami. The former did not seem to have a plan or a good front office and the team on the field was weak. Miami had to have BIG names (and they still do), therefore it will take years to recover front this plan.

Some great games this week. Atlanta came back from two down with ten men to tie the game in injury time. Charlotte win their first game against and tired New England team who probably had a hangover from their big choke. Charlotte may be better than Miami, already. Two former bottom dwellers, Chicago and Cincinnati are both playing good football. So, this MLS season is looking good!
