During the World Cup stadium reveal for 2026, the question of the host for the World Cup Final sprung up.
In this monumental event, FIFA considered two historic stadiums which hosted a combined three World Cup Finals. In Mexico, the Estadio Azteca hosted the Finals in 1970 and 1986. The USA 1994 Final took place in the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles. Plus, BC Place in Vancouver, BC, Canada, hosted the 2015 Women’s World Cup Final
However, the debate for 2026 heated up when FIFA left out the Rose Bowl. Instead, it opted for SoFi Stadium, the $5 billion home of the NFL’s Chargers and Rams. Therefore, the potential venues for the Final circled around Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York or even Vancouver.
Fact remains, there are certain stadiums which could certainly hold the biggest game in sports. Surely, FIFA’s decision will upset a number of fans who think the game belongs at a certain stadium.
Who should host the World Cup Final in 2026?
Knowing the situation, what are your thoughts? As of now, any stadium is virtually up for grabs to host the World Cup Final in 2026. Even a city like Atlanta, Miami or Dallas could host the Final.
As of now, the frontrunners to host the Final are, of course, Los Angeles and SoFi Stadium, Estadio Azteca in Mexico City and MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, just outside of New York City. Your selection will likely come from one of these three cities. However, that does not have to be the case.
Of the 16 cities and stadiums that host the 2026 World Cup Final, only one can host. There are historical venues and those that are among the most advanced and lavish in the world.

Why not Seattle? Pacific Northwest provides a lower chance of ridiculous heat. Seattle has been a large hub for domestic football fans for years.

When it comes to the Final, Dallas and Atlanta stand out. You’d want a climate controlled final.
As big as hosting the final would be though, what city/cities should host the US National Team in round one? Those will be just as big as being the Final host.

L.A. The venue will hold more people after expansion, it’s closer to the airport, will have two arenas (Clippers & The Forum) within walking distance, plus best broadcast facilities thanks to NFL TV HQ, and the YouTube Theater literally feet away, covered roof, closer hotels by then… It’s just the best option.

Met Life. Incredible stadium for Soccer/Football (I saw Bayern v Real Madrid there a few years ago and it was a great experience all around). Plus it’s still right in the center of the media universe in the US. If they do an afternoon kickoff Europe will have it in their primetime (which will make UEFA happy). The only ones that would suffer would be the fans in the far east (Japan, South Korea, Australia) who would have the final as a very early AM kickoff.

It should be NY or LA – no offense to Atlanta or Dallas. LA would be my choice to protect against any rain or poor weather, but NYC is in the better timezone and it was in LA last time, so I expect they will select NYC. If everyone really had their act together DC with a new NFL stadium would host the final, or this would be a Canadian led World Cup with a new NFL ready stadium in Toronto to host the final (and later the Chargers since they are a joke right now in LA).

It’s long been known that the quarterfinals on will all be in the United States, so Azteca is out. I like Atlanta/Mercedes Benz Stadium a lot, but I suspect FIFA will go for the prestige of NYC or LA. Met Life is the pick.
