Why Sling TV is the best bargain for Premier League viewers

Sling TV Premier League

Most soccer fans opt for services such as Sling instead of cable or satellite packages that have rising costs. Yes, those may provide more channels, but many people will not watch the entire catalog provided. Instead, if you’re like me, you have a handful of favorite channels that you watch on a regular basis that cover all the content you like.

Premier League fans are no different. Every Saturday and Sunday, we devote our mornings to watching top-flight English soccer, regardless of who is playing. However, we still need a subscription service to watch USA Network and NBC, two channels that collectively usually broadcast five or six games each weekend.

Popular options like YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and fuboTV carry those two channels. However, with the extended selection of channels, those prices can be cost-prohibitive.

This makes Sling TV a strong alternative for Premier League audiences in the United States. Throw in Peacock to unlock the rest of the games, and EPL fans have a cheaper way to watch all 380 games each season.

Sling TV and the Premier League

Specifically, Sling Blue is enough to watch 200 games of the Premier League every season. With Sling Blue, you get NBC (in local markets) and USA Network, which is all you need for the 200 matches. But what about the 180 games that NBC and USA Network don’t show?

That brings in the second part of this bargain to make it the most cost-efficient option for Premier League fans. A subscription to Peacock, which is $4.99 per month, provides access to all 180 games not available on Sling Blue. NBC also has a history of putting select games on Peacock, or if USA and the NBC over-the-air channel are occupied with other events.

Sling Blue content and pricing

Sling Blue is $35 per month. That is huge savings compared to YouTube TV’s $64.99 per month or $69.99 per month from fuboTV. For Premier League fans, it includes the all-important USA Network with select NBC markets also available.

However, let’s say you are looking for something to watch after 2:30 p.m. on a Saturday or Sunday. Sling Blue still carries a number of great channels for a variety of genres. FOX News and CNN have news and politics, E! and truTV have entertainment and there is more than soccer in the form of TNT and the NFL Network.

You can also add on a sports package to Sling Blue for an extra $5 per month that allows access to a number of different domestic sports leagues. Soccer fans may enjoy beIN SPORTS, which broadcasts Ligue Un and the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores, among other competitions. You can also combine Sling Blue with Sling Orange for a total of $50 per month, which allows ESPN’s coverage of MLS to be a part of the action.

Circling back to the Premier League, Peacock is necessary to watch all 10 games each matchday in the United States. It is $4.99 per month, but there are opportunities to save even more on this combo with Sling and the Premier League.

For the month of September, the price of Peacock dips down to just $1.99 per month. Plus, and perhaps more importantly, subscribers can opt for the annual plan on Peacock for just $19.99. This takes care of a year’s worth of service for the equivalent of four months traditionally.

Sling TV is the best bargain for Premier League viewers. At $40 per month for a combination of Sling Blue plus Peacock Premium, that makes a lot of sense. And if you sign up for Sling Blue now, and then get Peacock in September for $19.99, the average monthly price for Sling Blue plus Peacock drops from $40 to $36.66.

Again, this is just for September, so act while the option is there.

Peacock Premium provides subscribers with exclusive Premier League games and coverage, including the whip-around Goal Rush show on select weekends. There are, of course, also shows like The Office and movies across the Peacock platform.

Although Sling Blue sounds like a bargain, my question would be on stream quality/reliability, time lag, and fps. Last I checked (admittedly quite a while ago), Sling streams tended to be of low quality, unreliable, lagged quite a bit more behind the live event (even when compared to other streaming services), and we’re not 60 fps, except for ESPN and a few others; definitely not 60 fps on USA. Perhaps a current Sling subscriber could let us know if any of this has changed?

Can’t understate the value of Peacock and just using an OTA antenna if you follow EPL. This weekend the only matches not available on Peacock or OTA (NBC or Telemundo) are Southampton/Man U and Brighton/Leeds. Are two matches a round (and often not the most intriguing of the round) worth the extra $35 a month?

Sling Blue is a pretty great option for soccer fans since it really only lacks the Disney channels (ESPN/ABC). All of their soccer is on ESPN+, so you aren’t missing anything by not getting the ESPN channels (I get the ABC stuff via ESPN3 but I’m not sure why or how). It includes FS1, USA, Bein ($5) and sometimes FOX which is all the soccer worth watching on cable. Still, $35 for basically USA channel for half the EPL games (or FS1 for internationals) is a ripoff when Peacock is $2, Paramount+ is $5 and ESPN+ is $10, but if you would like to get robbed by NBC then Sling Blue is the best way to do it if you also don’t want to get robbed by ESPN.

Peacock subscriber here and definitely worth it. In the attic of the home an antenna pointing to the transmission towers in the distance (20 miles) hooked up to an HDHomerun box, which is a network-attached digital TV tuner. Scanning for channels gives me 86 local channels 27 of them are HD and all these channels are on my network accessible to any device connected via WiFi. So games on NBC and Peacock are covered. Paying $35 per month for just the USA channel is not a deal I am thrilled about, but will admit it is the way to go if you want ease of operation and are a bit technically challenged.
