Michy Batshuayi transfers to Fenerbahce from Chelsea

Michy Batshuayi transfer

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi receives yet another transfer away from the west London club. His latest, and permanent, destination is Fenerbahce out of the Turkish Süper Lig. Reports estimate the Turkish giants spent in the area of $3 million for the Belgium international’s services.

Batshuayi was a target of a number of clubs, having fallen out of favor in the ranks for Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge. Those potential destination ranged across the continent.

For instance, the Belgian looked set for a move to Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest on deadline day. However, that deal fell through at the last minute. Apparently, paperwork issues caused that transfer to fall through.

The reason Fenerbahce signed Batshuayi is that the transfer window in Turkey is still open for another week. Clubs in the Turkish Süper Lig have until September 8 to make roster moves.

Michy Batshuayi transfer back to Turkey

Batshuayi is certainly familiar with the Süper Lig in Turkey. He he spent the 2021/22 campaign with Besiktas. In 33 league matches, he scored 14 goals and added a further three assists with the Black Eagles. Twenty-eight of those appearances came as a member of the starting XI. The 14 goals represents his highest goal output in league play since the 2015/16 campaign, scoring 17 with Marseille.

While the striker has changed clubs so often, he has performed very well for the Belgium national team. Now 28 years old forward, Michy Batshuayi has 25 goals in 45 games for his country. He will certainly look to hit the ground running with Fenerbahce ahead of the World Cup this winter.

The deal with Fenerbahce officially ends Batshuayi’s career with Chelsea. Despite making his move to the Premier League club in 2016, he never made more than three league starts for the Blues and was sent on loan five separate times.

Batshuayi joins a fairly potent attack that includes Joshua King, Joao Pedro, Diego Rossi, Bruma and fellow former Premier League player Enner Valencia. Fenerbahce’s next match is at home against Kayserispor on Saturday, September 3.
