Pogba to undergo knee surgery; World Cup in doubt for France star

Paul Pogba’s management team announced Monday that the France midfielder would undergo surgery, putting his chances of playing in the World Cup in doubt.

In August during pre-season training with Juventus, Pogba tore a lesion in his lateral meniscus. More recently, lab results did not see improvement on his right knee.
At first, the Guinean French midfielder announced he would not be receiving surgery.

Such an injury is sustainable for a non-professional player. Though this type of injury curtails a player’s career, surgery is the only way for a strong comeback. In extreme cases, the recovery period for meniscus surgery is three to six months. However, the timetable for Pogba to return from recovery in just shy of two months. Regardless, the midfielder’s form will be rusty come time for the World Cup. As a result, Les Bleus may probably make a run for their second consecutive title in November without the aid of their star midfielder. Moreover, Pogba’s return to Serie A remains questionable for 2022/23.

Juventus needs Pogba back from injury

Pogba’s knee operation is a step in the right direction, should the Frenchman look to help Juventus gain its 35th Scudetto and third UEFA Champions League title. However, Juventus’ shot at these titles is at risk considering Pogba’s absence in the Champions League. The black and white zebras of Turin have been plagued by further injuries this season, with Ángel Di María, who suffered a pulled left adductor before making his return.

After joining Juventus on a free transfer from Manchester United, Pogba made his highly anticipated return to the club where he scored 28 goals in 100+ appearances between 2012-2016. However, his return to Turin came with baggage. Most recently, bizarre accusations of witchcraft, blackmail conspiracies in connection with his kin, and plots from extortionists with ransom claims have surrounded Pogba with controversy.

Moreover, the injured midfielder claims he was abducted and held at gunpoint back in March.
