One more point: USSF and MLS should be greatful to NASL. They nurtured a few teams that made it into D1/MLS; so this is an unofficial “promotion”. Minnesota United is the most recent example.

Even Atlanta FC should be greatful to the past D2 team that brought the soccer culture to Atlanta metro.

Great interview. The 1994 World Cup got my connection to the US Soccer. This Cinderella team beat expecations and qualifified for the knock-out playoffs. The USA-Brazil playoff at Stanford stadium with a sold crowd of around 75k, was fun to watch even though USA lost 0-2. Alexi, did great defending, but the Brazil was too good. Good game, and it got the nations interest.

Time to move on to V2.0 of US Soccer. Sunil Gulati needs to move on. His arrogance that nothing needs to be changed is unbelievable. Fresh blood and term limits to max 2 terms is needed for the USSF president.

I think MLS needs to have an unofficial quota for youth US Soccer prospects. USMNT success equals MLS financial success, and vice-versa. These two are intertwined no matter which way you look at,

I think NASL should be a given a chance to survive as D2. MLS also went through a down turn. Average stadium attendance per team should be metric for D2.

I am all for Pro-Rel being introduced in D2, D3, D4. And MLS should be give 5 years to move to Pro-Rel, so franchises can adjust their business model.

Cheers, and fun listening to you guys.

Alexi these kids will never know how big of a deal it was to beat Columbia. They were one of the favorites to win it all .. Great game i was there behind the net , as a defender i saw you guys in the back shutting things down. – hell of a game. Best moment in US soccer history.
