Enjoyable discussion, great to hear your interview with Cantor.
    .
The metric of YouTube highlights viewed as a surrogate for game interest as suggested by a commenter is intriguing. There is value in drawing inferences from indirect metrics since viewership data are increasingly proprietary and non-public. Any ideas on other barometers for assessing “viewers” of a game, league, channel, etc.?
    .
You mention personal seat licenses (PSL). Many factors drive entities to use PSL + ticket price rather than a higher ticket price, including:
    .
    1. Prior to changes in the 2018 tax law, PSL paid for college sports tickets were 80% federally tax deductible as a 501(c)3. While obvious quid pro quo typically nullifies a charitable deduction, Congress had expressly authorized this treatment!
    2. The PSL sometimes functions similar to a property right, allowing for speculation and trading on a free market basis. This can help teams get a bolus of cash from investors who have no intent of attending all or even any of the games.
    3. Much like resort fees at hotels, PSL allow teams to pretend tickets are cheaper than reality. As customers get used to this, it can be hard for competitors not to mimic.
    4. Etc.
