I’m not all that excited about the DAZN / Eleven sports thing. I’m still not sure how Eleven will monetize the site, let alone what DAZN would do. I really enjoyed being able to watch the Women’s Champion’s games that DAZN put on Youtube this year but I know that at some point, they’ll want me to pay. I’m not really into paying for everything I watch. I don’t mind ads. I just get kind of tired of all this rights stuff. I can’t keep track and i have serious FOMO at times.

Wasn’t even aware Eleven Sports was a thing beyond the lightly carried cable channel. Just downloaded/registered and they seem to have matches from Denmark, Norway, and Switzerland among others. Not something I’d follow regularly, but could be a nice diversion on days/times other leagues don’t have matches.
Site isn’t well organized, can’t filter/search by leagues from what I see so far, but it’s free so can’t do much complaining.

I’ve watched that site for years. It has soooo many games. I’m one to watch the women’s game and in the US, the UWS and USL-W leagues all had their games there. I think Brazil does a bit. Last year watched the Pakistan women’s championship. But yeah, hard to find anything. Fifa using it gave me hope that it would help. Nothing so far.
There are some pay subscriptions on there. I haven’t watched anything that makes you pay yet.

In regards to the crowd noise on Paramount+ matches, it varies by league. Brasileirao is usually non existent on the English commentary feed, like watching in a fish bowl. It’s improves if you choose Portuguese, but still muted.
Serie is quite good when it’s the world feed. When it’s Andres and Matteo (and not the rare times they’re on site), the crowd seems to be turned down more than usual. It was the same situation on beIN, very good with world feed and almost the same fish bowl feel when they used in house commentary.

I’m with Kartik on friendlies, have no use for them. If a superstar was playing close by might think about checking it out to say “I saw Messi play once” or something, but no interest otherwise or watching these on television.

Good discussion. Several reactions:

* I am enjoying Euro 2022 coverage by TUDN and ESPN. Agree ESPN is a bit rough around the edges in studio, but it is great they have shoulder programming. Interesting to hear from Kartik that club interest tends to lead international interest for women’s soccer in Europe

* Summer friendlies are like pre-season NFL games, largely meaningless cash grabs with little if any predictive power. I know some people enjoy them, but it is not for me

* The survey you reference is by Civic Science and could be interesting to discuss. Not sure they share the methodology or sampling technique, so reader beware. Also be mindful of the direction of conditional probabilities. Among respondents who stream sports, 73% have cut the cord. Among respondents who watch 10+ hours of sports per week, 15% stream sports (18% used to but stopped, 4% do not but plan to, 63% do not and do not plan to)

I thought that Rangers and Celtic would join an EFL League 3? With Champioship, L1, and L2 all reducing to 20 teams. L3 would be formed from 2 Old firm, 12 relegations from L2, 6 promotions from Conference National. I would find that very interesting. Would take a decade for one of those teams to get to Premier League and big bragging rights to the team who gets there first perhaps?

One area that has improved in the MLS friendlies is the depth of some of the teams. Kartik is correct most of the big leagues have very deep teams. The big six in the EPL have 40-70 players under contract.
In yesterday’s friend;ies some of those players got their chance, mostly in the second half. Charlotte and Minnesota did the same and either held their own or like Minnesota played better then Everton. So, the work of their academies is paying off.

Miami was an embarrassment. Looked like they didn’t want to be there. DC didn’t play that badly. Had their moments. All the other MLS clubs played well, especially, as you pointed out, Minnesota. Idk why NYCFC never plays in any of these.
