After their stunning comeback in the North London derby yesterday, all the talk this morning is about Harry Redknapp’s men. The White Hart Lane club have certainly showed their title credentials with that win, but could they really mount a serious challenge for the Premier League this season?
Harry Redknapp certainly feels they can. Talking after the win at the Emirates Stadium, the former Portsmouth manager said: “We can beat anybody. This has put us right back in the race again. It’s wide open. We’re not writing ourselves off, you’ve got to aim for the top. If my players believe in themselves as much as I do, we can achieve anything.”
Redknapp is quite right to believe that his side do have a very good chance of winning their first league title since 1961, because this season every side has been inconsistent. You have to feel that anyone from five sides could win the Premier League this season.
But Spurs, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal have all shown that they are currently lacking any real momentum and while Manchester United are yet to lose a game this term, they haven’t reached anywhere near their top form.
This means the league is very much up for grabs, and if Tottenham can make use of the depth in their squad it might just be their year. Redknapp has an amazing wealth of talent at his disposal and that could really be something which could bring his side success this season.
Chelsea have shown in recent weeks what happens when they are without their top players, but if there was to be a similar injury crisis at White Hart Lane, you have to feel that they would be able to cope better.
In an era where three games a week is the norm, a big squad is so advantageous now. Manchester City and Tottenham have the two strongest squads in the league, and if other sides suffer with injuries you have to feel that either could be an excellent position to win the league.
Luck will have to go their way, but the simple answer is; Yes, Tottenham could win the Premier League this season. Personally I don’t think they will but stranger things have definitely happened in football.

no. not this year at least. the injury stuff is laughable though, we have had it as bad as anybody. bale has stayed healthy but everyone else has missed games pretty much. we have been w/out VDV, without modric, without lennon. we have barely even had defoe or dawson or king. chelsea does have serious depth issues, but they will probably stay healthy enough to win the league. i think we cope better w/out VDV, defoe, or bale than they do w/out drog, lamps, essien. arsenal rotates players a lot in the MF, but i don’t rate most of them tbh (diaby, denilson, walcad, rosicky).

i am a spurs fan so ill try not to be 2 bias. i can c this being possible within the next couple of years if they maintain top 4 finishes and make some key signings (defense and one key striker). what gets to me is the idea where questions arise about winning the season when a side beats one of the “big 4” away from home. these games wont win you the league. this is spurs problem. they can surely beatany team at home, even many times away but they lack consistency against the teams where we should be expecting three points. this is where the league is won, consistency at home and away against the bottom two thirds of the table. spurs have a problem here, they dont have the same fire for these smaller profile games, they dont come out with the same intesnsity. im hoping the champions league will give them experience to know that in any game the minute you kick-off you need to be going full force….against all teams, not just the bug guns. with some more experience and a top 4 finish i expect within the next season or 2 that they will be in the thick of it. anything is possible and maybe they can pull off something crazy this season but it would rely to much on mistakes made by other teams so i think it might be out of their hands this season. best of luck though, i hope they go as far as possible. i think a better topic is can they win the champions league. i know it sounds farfetched but that seems more possible than winning the prem this season. they have the mental capability along with some luck to stun the europe.

The difference between winning the league and making a challenge is being able to keep your nerve in the run-in. That is why Utd have been so dominant, they are not always the better team, but Fergie knows how to play the media to put the pressure on whichever team is challenging him, and taking the pressure off his team. And then they manage to play badly and then equalize in the 89th minute and win it in the 95th.
I don’t see Redknapp being able to do this or the team. Strange season this may be, but I think it will boil down to Chelsea v Utd at the end of the season.

If there was an injury crisis…
What about earlier this year when Gomes, King, Dawson, Corluka, Modric, and Dafoe were all out? I’d like to see any other team lose their keeper, 3 of 4 out of the backline, one of the leagues best mid fielders and the teams best striker and see where they’d be right now.

EPL is not about winning one big game. It is about getting results week in week out. And this is what Spurs have struggled to do so far. I don’t expect to see any significant improvements here. They will stay neck and neck in the race for 4th with City.

Not a chance. I would like to see Spurs finish as high as possible, as they play attractive, exciting football (which we’ve written about extensively over the course of this season). I disagree with you assertion as to Spurs depth, however. Surely, there’s no way that you can compare the squad depth that Arsenal, City and United currently have to Spurs situation. While Spurs starting 11 can compete with anyone in the league, you only have to look at the team’s inconsistent results over the past several weeks to see that they are not up to playing two to three times a week. That kind of pace eventually catches up to even the best of them, and as we get deeper into the season and the little knocks and injuries begin to add up, ask yourself if Spurs would be able to sustain winning if they had the type of injuries and absences suffered by the Gunners and the Red Devils (imagine them with no Gareth Bale or Rafael VdV, anyone?). My answer? No way.

After yesterdays result I think all Spurs will feel unbeatable but putting our feet back on the ground, we have a great squad of players, some are world class like bale, vdv, modric but we need to add some to that so should buy: Cahill, Young, Benzema and maybe Gourcuff. Then we will have a team of world beaters and everything could happen.
At home we are strong and hard to beat if we can pick up wins on the road then sure we can win the title….but the truth is Chelsea and Man U will be there come the end of the season so we will have to settle for 3rd instead.

er??….we are only 5 points adrift!! chelsea.who we play at home soon…..and we have returning players from our injury crisis (affecting some of the recent game)s ..defoe and what was the A list defence…..so we should be able to keep the momentum to the end of the season….so its up for grabs as all the teams at the top will drop points due to champions league midweek games impacting on the weekend…….the fact is we now dont give up and the win against inter milan gave the team belief………………it will be close if we continue in the way we did in the second half…..against arsenal…….harry was right last year he could be right this year!!! dont aim for 4?………… aim for No 1…..

No chance- they still haven’t found a balance or the consistency needed being new to the Champions League, but can beat any team on their day and should be in a tight race w/City just as last season for 4th. Obviously, I hope they can get the edge and surpass City once again.

This Spurs fan says: not a chance. Not this season, not with the battered back line (King, Dawson, Woodgate all out), and not with the Champions League obligation. Based on what I’ve seen we should EXPECT Spurs to qualify for the CL again next year. They for sure have the quality.
But if they invest in a top-class striker and a quality CB for cover until Daws and King are healthy again, then who knows?
