Wolves Interested in Robbie Findley?

One of the major complaints for American soccer fans during last summer’s World Cup was the lack of goal scoring punch from the forward position.

That fact hasn’t stopped Edson Buddle and, now, Robbie Findley from drawing some level of interest from English clubs, however.

The Daily Mail, a much debated source of reliable English football news, is reporting that Wolves’ manager Mick McCarthy is considering a move for Findley, who became a free agent after four years with Real Salt Lake at the end of the MLS season. Technically, Portland owns his MLS rights – but that’s only if he doesn’t leave for Europe.

A couple of obstacles exist right now:

1. He’s apparently injured. That makes him a little tough for McCarthy to evaluate.

2. He’ll need a work permit. He has 11 appearances for the national team, which may be enough to help him reach the 75 percent requirement for the Premier League.

I’m not as down on Findley as some American soccer fans may be, but I’m not convinced he’s ready for a spot in the EPL.

He’s very fast and he works hard, but his first touch and technical ability have yet to come through on the highest level, as he has yet to score a goal in a U.S. shirt.

To me, if he doesn’t want to stay in MLS, a move to Denmark or Holland makes more sense.

He’s 25, so it’s too early to say he’ll never be good enough to play in England.

I’m just not sure he’s ready right now.

He doesn’t need to score if he’s opening up space for his partner and others to score.

does anyone know Rob Findlay well enough to give us a quick evaluaion of him? Will he fit in the Premiership?

Andy Johnson, with less poaching ability. Athlete.

Yanks Abroad is now reporting that Findley could be going to Nottingham Forest instead: http://www.yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=content&id=7206

He clearly does not have the raw technical ability, but he is fast, which will benefit him in the EPL. Hopefully he goes and gets better. It would give the U.S. another option up top- with few in supply.

I don’t even rate him among the top MLS strikers let alone the PL….

Would seem more like a winger in English football.

A third more important obstacle is that he stinks.

Stop writing nonsense, he won’t get a work permit.

he has one thing you can’t teach, flat out speed. he’s so f-ing fast.

Yeah, and he has none of the tools you can teach, like finishing, passing, dribbling, football intelligence, etc.

Robert you can add the fact we have 5x the spirit of most teams in the league, and are playing football that defies our position.

I think the one place we aren’t in much need of strenghtening is up front. We have Kevin Doyle, the envy of most teams outside the top 6, Steven Fletcher, who for all his performances haven’t shone this season, seems to know where the net is, and Sylvan Ebanks Blake, the one time hottest property outside of the EPL, who finally seems to be finding his feet in the top flight.

Yeah, I agree that it doesn’t make much sense to sign another striker over a centre-half or a midfielder, but if Doyle is going to be hobbled with this thigh injury, maybe a supporting striker isn’t a bad idea after all.

    DGS-

1 point from safety without the majority of their first team and any help from lady luck to this point, don’t assume that the Wolves are going down just yet.

Eddie Johnson with less scoring ability (if that’s possible). Findley is definitely not a Premier League player but Wolves don’t look like they are long for the Premier League either.

“I’m not as down on Findley as some American soccer fans may be, but I’m not convinced he’s ready for a spot in the EPL.”

I’m sure he’d be a fine fit for them in the Championship.
