If you live in the United States, I’d like to take this time to wish you and your family a Happy Independence Day today. Hopefully you’re looking forward to a great day with your friends and/or family accompanied by good food and good drink that ends with a wonderful firework display.
As well as celebrating the day when the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776, today marks a few important milestones for fans of Premier League clubs:
- Premier League clubs returned to training today all across England,
- There’s only 40 days to go until the 2011-12 Premier League season kicks off,
- The first preseason friendly of the summer featuring a Premier League club kicks off one week from tomorrow when West Bromwich Albion plays San Jose in California (see the complete schedule here).
Have a wonderful Fourth of July!

If the pilgrims hadn’t left imagine what a mess England would be now. Not to mention we might have had to change football to handball, cricket to rounders and rugby to god knows what 🙂 .
Happy Independence day to us all!

Oh, Jason, Jason, Jason. The Jamestown settlers left England 15 years before the Pilgrims. But we won’t quibble. Happy 4th!! 🙂

The Declaration wasn’t signed on July 4th either – most likely around August 2.

Thank you ancestors for leaving England behind (and wherever else)! Thank you! Thank you!

That photo is hilarious: A fabricated castle in an expensive theme park, built in reference to a European fairy tale about nobility choosing a mate based on her shoe size. How wonderfully American.

Happy 4th to everyone.
Good to see the players back in training and I suspect things will now become fast and furious in the transfer market.
