As Newcastle’s fifth signing of the summer, French forward Emmanuel Rivière is heading to St. James’ Park for the upcoming 2014-2015 season.
Transferring from Monaco, the 24 year-old has signed a long-term contract with Newcastle and stated his excitement for the move on Newcastle’s official website,
“When the Club spoke to me I said yes immediately. It was an easy decision because Newcastle is a big club with great fans and a good stadium.”
Manager Alan Pardew is optimistic about Rivière’s future with the Geordies saying, “He is quick, hungry for success and will love having 50,000 Geordies cheering him on and singing his name.”
After a 10th place finish in the Premier League with only 43 goals last season, Rivière could prove a huge asset right away, Pardew said, “This is an important signing because the striking area is one we really had to improve. We have looked at Emmanuel for a while and we know he will score goals for us.”
With 17 goals in 50 appearances since joining Monaco from Toulouse in 2013, he helped win a Ligue 2 title with Les Rouges et Blancs last season.
Rivière has represented France for the first time in the U16 level in 2005 and most recently with the U21 team earning 15 caps and scoring 6 goals. However he has not yet received a call-up for the senior team.
