The US Senate held a panel hearing today in Washington DC to discuss corruption in international soccer.
The Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance and Data Security held the hearing on FIFA, soccer’s international governing authority, which has faced recent criticism for human-rights abuses ahead of the 2022 men’s World Cup and is under federal investigation for racketeering conspiracy and corruption.
Veteran freelance journalist Andrew Jennings and Dan Flynn, the CEO and secretary general of the U.S. Soccer Federation, are among the witnesses who testified.
While the hearing ran for two hours, it’s thoroughly recommended viewing particularly given the reactions from Jennings and Flynn, who had differing views. Also, pay close attention to Flynn’s obvious discomfort and squirming in his seat when asked the tough questions by the US politicians.

Ahem, the “best” branch of the US government money can buy-the US Senate-investigating the most corrupt international organization in the history of mankind-FIFA.
Does anyone else the irony here?

Not surprising at all. One would expect a person who is hiding something to be very uncomfortable when faced with tough questions. I hope USSF gets nailed.

But the issue is similar to FIFA where, in this case, you have USSF saying that they will perform an independent inquiry into what happened within the USSF, but ultimately they’re in control of what information is disseminated. We all know how well FIFA’s inquiries and self-reform have done in enacting change — nothing.

That simply can not happen. The US government is already involved; they must go through with the thorough investigation. It would be astoundingly shocking and disgusting if we let USSF investigate itself at this point.
