The timing of yesterday’s announcement that Giovani Dos Santos had officially signed for LA Galaxy was impeccable. Less than five minutes after the US Senate panel hearing on corruption in international soccer had ended, MLS’ LA Galaxy changed the conversation on social media as fans and soccer media marveled at the signing, and discussed how MLS will award two more All Star Players/Bonuses in 2015.
So, we thought we’d take a moment to pause the morning after to look back and see what the US soccer media’s reaction was to the explosive US Senate hearing by reviewing select Twitter accounts for the people who cover the sport in this country.
We’re taking into consideration that not everyone was watching the panel hearing yesterday. With a busy day in Gold Cup and club games, many reporters may have been traveling or writing pieces about other matches, but here’s what we found and what was said:

Yes, @ussoccer can affect change, but the Senate folks may be overestimating how much power the U.S. actually wields in the world of soccer.

Grant Wahl (Sports Illustrated)
US Soccer should exert more influence in FIFA due to US TV $, sponsors & WC ticket-buyers, but DC pols overestimating US influence as well.

Would be quite shocking, with how Blazer helped SUM get World Cup television rights, if nobody in MLS or USSF had inkling of his corruption.

Christopher Harris (World Soccer Talk)
Dan Flynn is a patsy for USSF, being thrown under the bus by USSF President Sunil Gulati. Not a good look for US. What does it have to hide?

CONCACAF hasn't actually made any "sweeping reforms" at all. None. They put out a press release about vague proposals.

So outside of World Soccer Talk, this is as close to addressing the elephant in the room that the US media came to yesterday:

Liviu Bird is the closest thing we have to a watchdog we have at a “major” publication covering US Soccer (see his reporting on the Crossfire saga). Rate him highly as a journalist.
Most other writers at these big-name companies are merely paid propagandists.

Wahl is such a joke, deflecting any blame from USSF. Trying to protect his inside source privileges?
The relative silence from most of these guys is deafening.
I appreciate your objectiveness, Chris. There is not enough of it in this country’s soccer media.
