Speed tests between Sling TV and fuboTV

Ever wonder who would win a speed test between Sling TV, fuboTV, PS Vue and DIRECTV NOW?

Several of our readers have posted comments on our website asking for us to do a laboratory test to determine which of the legal streaming services is the fastest and most reliable.

While we haven’t had a chance to do so yet, we did stumble across a speed test on YouTube. Conducted by fuboTV, the speed test compares Sling TV, fuboTV, the now-defunct PlayStation Vue and DIRECTV NOW. Each of the legal streaming platforms were installed on the same make of laptops and then compared side by side to see which ones were the most

The features tested are:

• Load speed — The load speed of several different videos are tested to see which streaming services are the fastest,

• Live latency — The test sees which service returns to programming first after the commercials end,

While the programming offered by each respective streaming network is important, so too is the speed of how quickly and reliably the content is displayed on your laptop, smartphone, tablet, set top box and TV.

Here’s our side-by-side comparison of all of the legal streaming services offered for soccer fans in the United States. For fans outside the US, you can access the streams using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to bypass geo-blocking. Those unfamiliar with the technology can check out our guide on what is a VPN.

i try it all in mac computer and just for sports i love fubotv but the recording is buggy, and the don’t have the logging ability of nbcsports web like psvue have, you cannot see the previous shows like you do on sling and some channels in psvue, this on have the best quality if you got enough internet bandwidth >12mbits 35$ plus tax and you got beinsports, psvue have the home location issue, and some frame dropping around this days idk why, best feature is DVR, 30$ no tax yet for me and you need buy package for beinsports, directtvnow the only thing that i like is the guide i still have 1 more month pay there and i don’t use it prefer any of the others, for sling i like the computer app it feels just nice and when you click a channel, you can see all on demand titles, titles than psvue dont show on the channel, example mr.robot season 2 on USA, it doesn’t appear in the channel but appears on the search, sling is nice but is missing channels. quality fubo.tv hands down, direct next, psvue, sling last only 30fps, if you have a slow network you got 2 choices psvue or sling, psvue is the best one on slow network, fubo.tv have bandwidth choices but looks worst than psvue on the same network. hope this helps.

I originally went with Sling International for BeIn, but I there were buffering and picture quality issues, especially during peak usage hours. I switched to fubo TV once they offered BeIn sports connect. Generally the streams were better, though there can be issues with BeIn connect (that is not a fubo TV problem). Also, our internet modems were updated so maybe Sling works better, but I have stuck with fubo. The picture quality for the Fox channels is pretty good.

fubo needs to improve it’s DVR feature. Sometimes recorded matches are just s black screen or parts are missing. Once they improve the feature, I hope they add it to the new channels. Other area of improvement would be it’s AppleTV and Roku apps. The Roku app is a joke. The AppleTV one is better, but one cannot access DVR matches, In the area of interface and consistency across platforms, the SlingTV app has a leg up… though I guess the DVR feature is still in beta.

Both Sling and fubo need a SAP feature.

Whilst I hate the apple TV with a passion, DirecTV Now is highly optimized for it and loads channels in less than a second. Android is about 4-8 seconds lately and FireTV is all over the place at up to 18 seconds to load. Browser use for DirecTV now is all over the place as well for channel loading 🙁

After reading your review of fuboTV I signed up for the trial. However, I found the quality of it on Amazon Fire TV was not consistent. I believe I used it for the EFL cup final and this played well. However, the following weekend I tried it for the Man Utd Bournemouth game and the quality was terrible. I also noticed the stream on a later game I think the Spurs game replayed seemed to get stuck in a loop for a while. I have decided to switch back to Sling TV. Although fuboTV may be faster it’s quality seems to be poorer then the other services.

Thanks for the feedback, David. Have you tried contacting fubo’s customer support at support@fubo.tv? They can look into the issue for you and will certainly do their best to help.
