Turner Sports has announced pricing details and more coverage plans for its B/R Live streaming service, which will be broadcasting every single game of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League and Europa League competitions to viewers in the United States.
The pricing plans range from individual matches ($2.99 per game), a monthly subscription ($9.99) or an annual plan ($79.99).
With a subscription to the streaming service, you’ll have access to more than 340 live Champions League and Europa League games per season including everything from the Group Stage (beginning in September) through to the finals (in late May and early June). B/R Live also streams select matches from the Scottish Premiership, Belgium Jupiler League, Polish Cup and Swiss Cup. Bleacher Report Live is available online, as well as by downloading the B/R Live app through iTunes or Google Play, and/or via Apple TV, the Roku platform and Amazon Fire TV.
In a seismic shift in how consumers are offered UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches in the United States, the only Europa League game featured on television will be the final (on TNT and B/R Live on May 29). Meanwhile, TNT will televise 46 UEFA Champions League games throughout the season. That’s in stark contrast to FOX Sports’ coverage of the Champions League where they showed 146 games per season on television. For the Europa League, FOX Sports had 205 Europa League matches on TV compared to TNT’s one.
TNT is in more homes than FOX Sports 1 though. TNT is in 90 million homes, which trumps FS1’s 84 million households.
Speaking of the actual coverage itself, pre-match, halftime and post-match studio shows will be available on both B/R Live and TNT, with the lineup consisting of the following:
• B/R Football Matchday: One-hour pre-match show airing at noon ET on UEFA Champions League match days,
• B/R Football Halftime: Halftime show during UEFA Champions League matches,
• B/R Football Extra Time: A bridge show airing on TNT in between UEFA Champions League matches,
• B/R Football Postmatch: A 30-minute post-match show recapping the day’s UEFA Champions League action.

As of press time, Kate Abdo and Steve Nash have been already announced as two of the talent that will be bringing the coverage to you (with Abdo taking the role of host while she continues to work for FOX Sports).
Regarding announcers, all matches will use the world feed for commentators.
One of the biggest changes that soccer fans will notice with the UEFA Champions League coverage for the 2018/19 season is the kickoff time. Instead of most of the matches kicking off at 2:45pm ET on a UEFA Champions League matchday, they will be begin at either 12:55pm ET or 3pm ET, which will allow broadcasters to feature a double-header of soccer coverage (see below):
• Group Stage: Tuesday, Sept. 18, through Wednesday, Dec. 12, with weekly matches held Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 12:55 p.m. ET and 3 p.m. ET. All matches will be available on B/R Live, with one match per game window (two each day) televised on TNT,
• Round of 16: Tuesday, Feb. 12, through Wednesday, March 13, with matches on B/R Live and TNT each Tuesday and Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET
• Quarterfinals: Tuesday-Wednesday, April 9-10 and April 16-17, with live coverage on B/R Live and TNT at 3 p.m. ET
• Semifinals: Tuesday-Wednesday, April 30-May 1 and May 7-8, with matches on B/R Live and TNT at 3 p.m. ET
• Final: Saturday, June 1, at 3 p.m. ET on B/R Live and TNT
Live UEFA match coverage will include the upcoming UEFA Super Cup – Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid – held Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. ET, and available on both B/R Live and TNT.
UEFA Champions League action will immediately follow with the Playoff Round (play-in rounds), held Tuesday-Wednesday, Aug. 21-22 and Aug. 28-29, with all matches available on B/R Live and TNT at 3 p.m. ET.

Its not there fault you pay cable rates. Like I said before, your leisure is your problem. If you really want it, cut back on something to get it. With BR Live and ESPN+ thats an extra $15, the cost of a large pizza from the pizza hole. We are not OWED these things, ELIMINATE cable or change your TV package, I did.

I checked this yesterday and the replay of the Inter-Spurs game was ready at least half an hour after it concluded. (I’m not exactly how soon after; I checked right before 3–it ended ten minutes earlier–and they still had the original feed playing live post-game even though I clicked the replay link.)
Anyway, that was really nice to see and I hope they keep it up!

Each account can stream up to 2 devices at once. If you’re on web browser, you can stream as many browser tabs as you’d like. All other platforms will only allow you to stream only one.

Luckily, there are ways around this. Many overseas countries provide streaming services that include multiple of sport channels. You may not get full HD picture quality, but for $60/YEAR (if you don’t commentary in foreign language), you get to watch any match you want. Some, at a bit higher price, give you DVR feature. you have different Supporter groups that meet at bars all across the world to watch Champions League, now they may get to see their team play on matchday if they happened to get selected for Tnt viewing. say what you want about fox at least they had all games on spread out across their channels on matchday that you can view at bars everywhere. This is absurd and champions league viewing will decline because you will not have access to all the matches. all bars in the U.S. have directv or the local cable company sometimes both, is B/R live going to be on those? how will this work for Bars? that is what yall are not talking about. Fox sports one is in all bars and they would have multiple games on the fs2 and the fox regional channels. TnT would be one match you get on “regular” televisions the rest are on the app. Majority of bars do not have apple tv, roku etc to run the app so that you can see all the games that are on. how are they going to decide what games are on tnt, what if Barcelona is playing Man City and Juventus playing PSG at the same time? Feel like B/R getting the Champions League has Short Changed us. for we will not be able to go to our favorite bars and watch all of the matches on Matchday!!

I find it disgusting that I now have to pay $15 extra a month already on top of the ridiculous cable and internet bill I already pay. I hope that fans see rabbit hole and the danger in charging money to watch these games and that they do not subscribe to them. Now it is $15 next year it will be $30.
Pretty soon it will only be for the rich. These games should be returned to live TV where they belong. If you are already paying $200 a month for internet and TV (which most people that have cable are these days) there is absolutely no reason why you should have to pay more to see what was previously for free. I am not sure how many people would agree with my sentiments but it is very clear that this is a dangerous path to be on if you want to watch football in the USA….

with that said, I subed for the soccer pass and watched one of the playoff games today.
Loved the fact they use the international feeds and they did not reveal the scores of other games like dumb FOX did.
Now if only they will improve the frame rate because you get some screen blur during fast movements, then it will be perfect.
I need my Champions league and for $10 a month plus the $5 ESPN+ is, now its soccer heaven here!!

Im on Amazon Fire TV. The app updated and now looks a lot like ESPN+. Im still trying to get it to work on my Android box but signing in is a pain. Fire TV (and most likely Chromecast) works best right now. You might have to uninstall and reinstall to get the most updated build. I wish I could post pics on here to show a screenshot.

I traded Tweets with B/R Live support. They said an updated iPhone app is coming shortly to remove the scores. Likewise a dedicated iPad app is coming.
I watched the Belgrade game yesterday on my laptop using Chrome. Worked perfectly. I have subscribed on a month to month basis.

1) The score reveal issue appears to be fixed on the pages that I looked at, so that’s good news
2) I haven’t been able to time it yet, but I would imagine within a few hours
3) Performance seems reliable but it hasn’t really been tested yet since none of the massive matches have been shown on it (other than the UEFA Super Cup, but that isn’t a popular game for a lot of people).

I went to the BR Live and TNT website yesterday, both were showing the Benfica vs PAOK game with like a 8 minute free preview. BR Live had all the other games. The stream was excellent on both sites, however the Benfica game was missing the clock. I was at work so I didn’t see if the clock was missing on TV as well. Did you catch this? How can they show the game without the clock? It was strange.

The clock on the Benfica-PAOK game was missing for about the first 30 minutes on the TV broadcast as well. I think there were a few technical problems. It was eventually fixed. I streamed the other two games on replay and they had the clock throughout.

This is a clear sign of things to come. In the UK, coverage of La Liga and Serie A will be shown via a dedicated online streaming service beginning this season. There is no TV channel so for those who don’t like to stream live matches, they will miss out.
More and more rights will go this way over the next few years once the deals come up for renewal.

Why won’t Turner put any UEFA CL matches on truTV?
Because the cable/satellite TV companies either:
1) isn’t willing to accept a 60% monthly subscriber fee increase for truTV to pay for UEFA CL, which draw less than 300,000 viewers per match, and/or
2) demand that any UEFA CL match placed on truTV (in exchange for a subscriber fee increase) be EXCLUSIVE, meaning the cable/satellite TV companies do not want those matches to be available on B/R Live (over-the-top pay-per-view/pay-subscription.)

DISH subscribers currently has no access to Univision, UniMas, or Galavision. They only have access to UDN
Univision Deportes has pulled Liga MX matches being played on Saturday nights involving “big” teams i.e. Chivas and Club America, from Univision Deportes Network (UDN). Those matches are currently exclusive to Univision while the dispute takes place.
Recall that Univision Deportes previously announced that it would put UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches on UDN and UniMas. Univision was to be used for the UEFA Champions League Final ONLY.
That has obviously changed due to the Univision Communications/DISH dispute.
Univision Deportes has plenty of flexibility in how it places UEFA Champions League matches based on multiple factors including but not limited to these two:
1; How badly does Juan Carlos Rodriguez want to screw over Turner by offering as many big matches for free as possible so that Turner won’t be able to sell those big matches via B/R Live on a pay-per-view or pay-subscription service?
2. How badly does Univision Communications (corporate) want to escalate its showdown with DISH founder “Cheap” Charlie Ergen, a notorious “bean counter” who once played mid-limit 7-Card Stud High-Low poker for a living at various casinos in Vegas?
The U.S. pay TV business has always been a “blood sport”, and will always be a “blood sport” that takes place at the bottom of a toxic trench.

Why did Turner even bid on this? They are showing 100 fewer CL matches and a grand total of one Europa League match. The rest they put on a streaming service connected to one of their acquisitions (Bleacher Report, for some reason), a service so incompetently designed they can’t figure out how to hide spoilers for replays, a service that tells users that matches are “not available in your area” that B/R itself streams, . And their first on-air hire is a basketball player..
I honestly wonder of they picked up the CL just to keep ESPN and Fox from getting it, although to what end I do not know.

Turner overpaid for the U.S. English-language rights to the UEFA CL ($60 million/season) because Turner thought the cable/satellite TV companies would be willing to accept a $0.06/month/subscriber rate increase for truTV. The fact that Turner chickened out and put the UEFA CL on TNT instead tells me that a) the cable/satellite TV companies toed the line and would NOT accept the rate increase. and/or b) the cable/satellite TV companies would NOT allow any game that Turner places on truTV to be available on the B/R Plus pay-per-view/pay subscription service.
Turner only paid the absolute minimum (i.e. $1 million) for U.S. English-language rights to the Europa League for one purpose and one purpose ONLY: for inventory to be used on the B/R Plus service. Turner was only interested in putting one Europa League match on TV.
Turner execs obviously had delusion of grandeur when they put in the bid.
They made one FATAL error that, in my opinion, is impossible to recover from:
Turner chose not to bid for Spanish-language U.S. rights, and Juan Carlos Rodriguez will spank Turner execs in the a**, particularly the a** of one Matthew Hong, who got outplayed.

Although to be fair, Turner would only be able to offer Spanish as SAP on the TV side, which is what it does for NBA and MLB coverage. The only Spanish-language channel it has is a version of CNN. Financially, that probably doesn’t add up for Turner like it did for FOX.
Univision could easily justify the Spanish-language rights simply in terms of needing content for UDN to support MLS and Liga MX in prime-time (plus having some extra money sitting around after losing the World Cup rights).

The fact that Matthew Hong, Lenny Daniels, and David Levy did NOT anticipate that Turner Sports will be locked in a ratings “war” with Univision Deportes over UEFA CL tells me they didn’t do enough due diligence.
We’ll see how many UEFA CL matches Juan Carlos Rodriguez chooses to give away for free on the Univision Deportes website and app to screw with Turner’s B/R Live product. Rodriguez only has to spend $40,000 in incremental production cost (by hiring extra voiceover announcers) to produce EVERY UEFA CL group stage match for distribution online.

Oliver, is Univision going to put out a press release similar to Turner did explaining *exactly* where we will be able to watch CL & Europa matches on their various networks this year? By using all four networks, the implication is that if you subscribe to Unimas, Univision Deportes, and Galavision (and have access to Univision over-the-air or via a provider), then Univision should be able to show ALL group stage CL and most Europa, as well as ALL CL knockout games across the 4 networks. Is this what you are saying they will do for all CL group stage & knockout games? And please differentiate between your strong belief they will do that vs. them announcing exactly which channels will carry those matches and when they make that announcement and how.
Second, friends of mine are claiming that Univision has had SAP English availability, but I would think they would be prevented from doing so for CL & Europa if Turner holds the English rights. Is that correct?

Univision will be issuing a press release about their UEFA Champions League coverage closer to the UEFA Super Cup Final on August 15.
Univision will not be allowed to use English commentaries via SAP. They don’t have the English rights.

Also keep in mind that EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE no matter what is stated in the press release.
Both Univision Comm and Turner Sports have plenty of flexibility to put UEFA CL & EL matches on whatever channels they see fit for business reasons.
We have already seen Turner “chicken out” by putting UEFA CL on TNT (instead of truTV, as most would expect.) In order to recoup $60 million/season in rights fee paid by Turner for UEFA CL, Turner has to push through a $0.06/month/subscriber fee increase.
Now that we know Turner (specifically AT&T’s Warner Media unit) is unable to force a $0.06/month/subscriber fee increase for truTV (that would also allow the same UEFA CL matches to be available live on the B/R Live PPV/paid-subscription service), Turner had to go to “plan B”: roll up the $0.06/month/subscriber fee increase necessary to pay for U.S. English-language rights to UEFA CL as part of a bigger subscriber fee increase for TNT that will cover NBA on TNT, UEFA CL, and other programming costs.

If Turner Broadcasting wants to attract more fans and establish a faithful following it should rethink its pricing policy and number of games available on TV channels. NBC did it right by showing all games in their first year on TV channels and then after that moving to streaming with a pricing that is less than $50.

There is no Spanish-language world feed available. The “world feed” has 2 audio channels: natural sound (crowd noise) and English-language commentary.
Some of world feed English-language commentators are very good: Ian Crocker (from Sky Sports) and Danny Higginbotham (former Gibraltar national team player) are two examples.
Unfortunately, the “#1” UEFA world feed English-language analyst, David Pleat, is awful.

According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Tim Howard will be one of many pundits that will be rotated into the studio in LA.
Remember that Howard underwhelmed when NBC tried him as an EPL pundit a few years ago. He couldn’t say anything interesting then as he was still playing in England.

Sigh, Turner already getting it horribly wrong. Nash is a real fan, but I don’t think he will have deep extensive knowledge of the clubs who aren’t elite.
Neither will Howard unless it’s a Premier League club (if he is an analyst), though he will be better than being in a booth and having to produce constant original thoughts on the fly. And Kate isn’t consistently strong with her hosting, as well as knowledge of non-elite clubs, to steer from cliche talk with new analysts around here. She was better with Barton & Holden because they all know each other, became friends, and knew each others personalities.
They will need quality producers to really guide them.

2. Hong chose to put the studio show in LA, a union town where production labor is at least twice as expensive as Atlanta, because L.A. has a large pool of candidates who can do the job on camera.
Kate Abdo, a former CNNI World Sport anchor who jumped to FOX (Sky Sport News Deutschland, Sky Sports News UK, FOX Sports U.S.,) lives in L.A. and needed extra work to justify staying in L.A. now that FOX Sports no longer can offer her enough work to keep her on staff. Abdo can definitely do the job (she was able to handle the 3rd group stage match days during 2018 World Cup with simultaneous matches) and she can handle names.
Hong knows Steve Nash from the NBA. Nash will approach UEFA Champions League from a fan’s perspective, which will make him DIFFERENT from the ex-players and ex-coaches will be rotate through the studio.
Andrew Marchant of the NY Post reported that FOX will allow Stu Holden to work for Turner.
Hong has also signed Tim Howard.

The good thing is that they are going to use the world feed and not try to cobble something together where I get to hear basketball and NFL references during a game.
I’ll give some thought to it. I probably watch enough from both tournaments that the annual pass may make more sense. Or I just brush up on Spanish and also just settle for what shows up on TNT…. this is getting really expensive (maybe signing up and cancelling as needed is one option as suggested above).
Was Multimatch 90 a Fox only thing? If so, going to miss that.

These numbers are clearly wrong. The total number of matches in the Europa League was 205. Not all of them were televised by Fox. Likewise, 146 was one more than the total number of Champions League matches (including the 20 play-off round matches; presumably the Super Cup is the extra one). Again, not all of those matches were on TV.

All UEFA CL & EL world feeds with the exception of the CL final are called “off tube” from Input Media in Shepherd’s Bush, West London.
The UEFA CL final will have announcers on site.
The world feeds of UEFA Super Cup, EL, and CL finals in recent years have featured Tony Jones and David Pleat.
Jones is OK. Basic, bare-bones commentary. Just the names.
Pleat is awful. Too many cliches. Not enough tactical analysis. Not to mention Pleat butchers more names than a certain so-called “legend” who used to call play-by-play on BBC Radio 5 Live but was completely exposed when he attempted to call MLS on regional TV in 2017.

There are 125 UCL matches and 253 Europa matches to complete the tournaments.
So with 46 UCL matches on TNT and 1 Europa match on TNT, that means we are being asked to pay $80 for 79 UCL matches and 254 Europa matches.
If the Europa League does not excite you,- it doesn’t excite me – that means the UCL games are $1.00 per game.
It might be worth it to NOT hear the FOX idiots!

They acknowledged to me last week that there is currently NO WAY to hide score spoilers for completed or in-progress games. I patiently explained to them that (for unfathomable reasons) that might “work” for NBA followers, but that football aficionados will not stand for that for one split second, and that Turner is going to be BOMBARDED with demands to remove spoilers. Or they simply will have no revenues from subscriptions because not all of us can watch matches live at 12:55 and 3 pm eastern time. They acknowledged that while still not live, they have ALREADY received many spoiler requests and have “passed those requests on to the web site developers”. But the chat people told me “don’t hold your breath”. Maybe will be fixed some time this fall. (I explained that MLB has a spoiler off option, as does NBC gold, etc. They really shouldn’t have to reinvent the wheel here.)
Another reason to root for ESPN+ to obtain FA Cup & Serie A rights this week.

I was one of those who complained. I think I found a work-around last weekend, though. I use a web browser on a laptop so I don’t know how this would translate to other devices. I loaded the page for last Friday’s Belgian League game the night before. Interestingly, I also had the option to remove the left-hand column that shows scores. Friday evening I hit refresh and covered the page up just in case until I could make the replay full screen. It’s all the routes to access that page where you definitely can’t avoid spoilers. Granted, you have to plan in advance, but it seemed to work. It’s still ridiculous, though, that anyone would design a streaming site with score spoilers.

Haha, this is pretty amazing. “No way”! Yes, just the same as every other streaming site that never has been able to find a way to hide scores. What kind of budget are they operating on? Everything looks like garbage and operates the same. We’re talking (as you said, David) about a weekday afternoon service–if they don’t fix this within the next month it’s going to be anarchy.
And even as an Arsenal fan who wants to watch their stupid Europa League games, there’s no way I’ll give them a dollar until I know they’ve figured out a way to hide spoilers.

If all you want is the UCL and the UEL, then the $10/month option seems the better way to go. Start your sub in mid-September when group stages begin, go for 3 months through mid-December when the group stage ends and cancel. Re-sub in mid-February when the knockout phase begins and go with that for a month or two as once we get to the semis in late April all the games should be on TNT (maybe even all the quarters). At most you’re subbing for 5 months at a cost of $50.
Only thing you’d miss here are the UEL semis, but you can always buy those for $3 a pop if you really want or find a feed or a cap to download.
Any word if they’re going to have a Roku app? Seems kind of a must these days.

While people might complain (fairly or unfairly) about the matches and the costs, one thing that I understand is that the B/R Football shows will be more consistent and not preempted like the random FOX pre and post match shows were, and they won’t be sent to different channels depending on whatever event is happening on FOX non-soccer related.
It is worth noting while TNT is only a few more households than FS1 it’s a far more “mainstream” channel though losing big FOX for the final hurts.

Another aspect of TNT is that it carries NBA games, typically Tuesday and Thursday nights during the regular season as well as playoff games. I expect that TNT will promote their Champions League coverage during the NBA telecasts especially with the Steve Nash involvement in the Champions League broadcasts.

The NBA prohibits TNT from running in-game promos of other pro sports during NBA on TNT including UEFA Champions League.
The only reason why I can think of why Turner chose to use TNT instead of truTV:
The pay cable/satellite TV companies refuse to allow Warner Media (a division of AT&T) to raise the subscriber fee of truTV from 0.10/month/sub to 0.16/month/sub.
Let’s see how many L.A.-based pundits will be featured in the studio: FOX castoffs such as Eric Wynalda, former “Bundesliga Bad Boy” Jermaine Jones, etc.
The ATL-based candidates simply were NOT good enough: Kate Riley butchered way too many names on World Sport, and Carlos Bocanegra came across as an MLS apologist the two times he appeared as pundit on beIN Sports USA last September.
Can’t blame Turner from putting the show in L.A., where better candidates are available. Kate Abdo has the experience and speaks multiple languages so she can handle names.
Steve Nash is “different” from any other pundit so the jury remains out until we watch him in action.

What is mildly interesting is whether or not the streaming package will give you access to the TNT games. I couldn’t really tell from the language of the press release. That’s a big hold up for the NBC Gold package and its relation to cordcutting. Especially as TNT will have all of the big games.

Kate Abdo isn’t that bad, she is bright and pleasant, and she knows enough about the sport to at least ask fairly good questions of the others. She also gets along well with the guys and she doesn’t interrupt when the others are talking, And of course she is not only a seemingly nice person, but she is one of the most beautiful women we have had in the sports world. Normally I don’t mind paying extra for more football but with so many different packages I’ve decided to stay with Gold, add Espn Plus (EFL/Nations League/MLS), ditch Fox Soccer Matchpass and will now pass on this, can only watch so much and the B/R sites a mess anyway, last I knew still no way to watch a replay without knowing the score, thought they would eventually fix this but now not so sure.

Yes, they need to fix the score thing. I work during the day so my only chance to see European matches is through replay, which is no fun if you already know the score.
Assuming that is fixed, I do like the pay-per-view option; $18 to see all of Arsenal’s group stage matches is better than $40 to subscribe (maybe I’d subscribe if they had Serie A and FA Cup).

Steeper than I expected for the annual pass. Needed a few minutes to digest it, but I ultimately think this is bad and I’ll be brushing up on my Spanish and trying to find out further Univision/Unimas details.

Is B/R Live going to show the UEFA Super Cup match or is that not known yet? I ask because Univision is already promoting the match on their main channel.

Exactly! And can we get to the game without finding out the score, kinda dumb having replays with the results of all the games at top of screen, so EPL and CL used to be free ( every game) now both payers talk about moving backwards!!
