When the Premier League made the decision to enforce their first-ever winter break, few would have expected it would have such a welcoming impact on TV coverage for soccer fans in the United States.
After all, you would expect a two-week winter break to have a negative impact with visions of weekend mornings and afternoons being silent when Premier League matches would normally be on.
The opposite is true. The way that the Premier League has rolled out the changes with fewer matches being played, it means that NBC Sports will — for the first time — be able to broadcast every single game during the next two weeks on linear television.
Plus for Spanish-language viewers, it means that Telemundo Deportes will present all matches in Spanish on Telemundo, Universo, or digitally – the first time an entire 10-game matchweek will be presented in Spanish.

Here’s how it’ll work.
Instead of the Premier League featuring ten matches per weekend, the league has spread the ten matches over the course of two weeks. That allows Premier League clubs to take a winter break at different times to refresh the players.
The upcoming winter break will features ten fixtures beginning this Saturday, Feb. 8, and concluding on Presidents’ Day, next Monday, Feb. 17 (see the US TV and streaming schedule below).
While I’m sure the Premier League didn’t plan it this way regarding TV coverage, it means that NBC Sports is marking the first time that every match will air live in its own television window.
And we can all appreciate that.

But it’s not though is it. If they were all on NBCSN then it’d make sense. But the 12.30 matches are on NBC as usual.

I was thinking the same thing. What’s so different about them showing matches from the split weekend to when, as you say, they do it every year – albeit on the one day?
Also, the part that states “While I’m sure the Premier League didn’t plan it this way regarding TV coverage”… well, they did actually. The games from the split weekend were designed for sale to UK broadcasters, which is why all 10 matches are also being shown live across Sky Sports and BT Sport.

One minor difference is that on “Championship Sunday” the matches are spread across a bunch of different networks. If you happen to not have one of those networks, you can’t get the game on that network.
One year they put a game on something called The Esquire Network, which I had never heard of before. The app even authenticated down to the channel level, and blocked individual games based on your TV plan.
