FOX Sports announces Copa America talent and coverage plans

With 48 hours to go before the 2021 Copa América begins, FOX Sports have finally announced their talent and coverage plans that include a few puzzling talent hires but an impressive lineup of games on cable and over-the-air television.

In total, FOX Sports will broadcast 28 games from the 2021 Copa América hosted in Brazil. Nineteen of them will be shown live across FS1, six on FS2 and three on the over-the-air FOX network. The final will be televised live on FS1 on July 10, 2011.

As well as the nightly games, FOX Sports will air Copa America Match Day, a daily review and preview show.

FOX Sports’ six-year agreement with CONMEBOL kicks off this Sunday with the English-language rights to the CONMEBOL Copa América 2021 event. Additional rights picked up by FOX Sports as part of the deal include the 2022 Women’s Copa America, CONMEBOL qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, 2024 CONMEBOL men’s and women’s Olympic qualifiers, 2024 Copa America and Women’s Copa America, and 2026 Women’s Copa America.

On the talent side, FOX Sports are going mostly with American accents instead of experienced commentators who know South American soccer. They’ve selected Rob Stone, Alexi Lalas, Maurice Edu, Aly Wagner, Cobi Jones and Stu Holden for analysis in the studio.

FOX’s commentators for the tournament include Jake Zivin, a commentator with Portland Timbers, and Kate Scott who was the first woman to call an NFL game on the radio, the first to call football for the Pac-12 Networks, and the play-by-play announcer for the first ever all-female NHL broadcast in the United States. It’s unclear whether Scott has commentated any professional soccer games before.

Other commentators include John Strong, Adrian Garcia Marquez, Mariano Trujillo and co-commentator Warren Barton.

#Peter. Where do you watch the games in Portuguese?

This group of commentators is a disgrace. First of all I have no idea what CONMEBOL is doing broadcasting these games on the Trump Network. Secondly they can’t even pronounce the name of the Maracanã correctly. I watch the games in Spansih or Portuguese.

What? The FOX lady commentator was the only good thing FOX have done well during the Copa America coverage.

    WTF…??
The men are in suits and the lone female commentator is wearing lingerie…???!!!

Fox’ contempt for anything that is not (US) American is revoltingly predictable .. Adrian Garcia Marquez and Mariano Trujillo are the lone exceptions .. No one in the studio that has first hand experience as a Latino playing in a Latin country .. Appalling self-absorbed, white privilege!!!!!!

@Cpcva I agree however Fox seems to place more importance on showing its “Baseball Night in America” broadcasts on OTA Fox on Saturday nights even though it is always the same teams every week on there like the Yankees, Cubs & Dodgers. The Copa America final would draw higher ratings for Fox on that Saturday night in my view than a meaningless regular season MLB game in prime time.

I’m actually pretty impressed by her knowledge and passion as well as her obvious ability to mesh with her co-c0mmenter, then again I’m not easily swayed by that long goal call (which I normally mute anyway).

Kate Scott. This tournament is, as far as we know, the first time she’s calling professional soccer games.

@Eplnfl that means a doubleheader sometimes a triple header of soccer on some days because there will be a few days especially this week in which a Euro match concludes at 5ET and then it is two straight matches from the Copa America. This is on top of the Euro matches in the afternoon (or morning if you live on the West Coast like I do).

Was watching a MLB match on the Main FOX channel when a commercial for Cola America was shown. all the footage was from the Copa America Centenario which FOX had the tv rights for. How hilarious.

Copa América y Eurocopa al mismo tiempo es como casi estar en días de la Copa Mundial.

The press release clearly said that Kate Scott has called Men’s and Women Soccer on the Pac 12 network
