Paramount+ to offer Italian-language commentary of Serie A

Paramount+ will offer Italian-language commentary of Serie A games, starting with select matches during the opening weekend of coverage of the 2021/22 season.

For subscribers of Paramount+, an option will be available to choose the Italian language or English-language commentary of select games. The intention is that more games will be available in the native Italian-language as the season unfolds. All 380 games per season will be available in English-language.

Previously, RAI Italia held the Italian-language rights to games from Italy’s Serie A where those games were televised in Italian and made available throughout the United States to RAI Italia subscribers. With CBS Sports and Paramount+ acquiring the exclusive rights to Serie A for seasons 2021/22 through 2023/24, RAI Italia no longer has the rights to those games.

In addition to coverage of Serie A in English-language, Paramount+ will stream at least 25 Coppa Italia matches including all contests from the fourth knockout round on, and the Supercoppa Italiana match each year between the winners of Serie A and Coppa Italia. Select matches will be televised each year on CBS Sports linear platforms, including CBS Sports Network.

Paramount+ features more than 2,000 live matches each year. The extensive portfolio of soccer properties includes UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League; NWSL; The Women’s Cup; Concacaf national team competitions (Men’s World Cup Qualifiers, Women’s World Cup Qualifiers, Men’s Nations League, and Women’s Nations League); Italy’s Serie A; Argentina’s Liga Profesional de Fútbol; Brazil’s Campeonato Brasileirão Série A; and AFC competitions (AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar, AFC Champions League, AFC Women’s Asian Cup and AFC Asian Cup). Every Serie A match is streaming live on Paramount+. Try it free with a 7-day trial.

I still haven’t been to find the Italian audio option on any serie a game. Today’s VENEZIA-JUVENTUS game has a British sounding guy at the beginning, then the game switch magically to Italian commentary, then to guys who used to work for espn and bein.

@Dante, the Bologna/Genoa match today had it, don’t recall which one on Sunday had it, but there was one. It seems to be 3-4 a round that have the option for Italian commentary.

Were any of the games this weekend/week broadcast with the Italian option? I still haven’t seen one (tried Michelangelo’s way). I also called Paramount to ask and they said the option isn’t available yet. I’m getting the nagging feeling that without any announcements from Paramount themselves this was just a way to pacify the RAI watchers who were forced to switch and they have no intention of making this service available for everyone.

@Michelangelo yes RAI Serie A coverage seemed better. + they covered Serie B and had ’90 minuto highlight show. im nearing the end of paramount + free trial, and i may pay for a year but id rather listen to commentary in italian, as iv become used to it. the accented english commentary does not fit, even if from italian commentators. the whole app as a whole is a little wonky with lags and waiting for something to load and maneuver through choices

Sassulo-Sampadoria will have an Italian SAP option available. I just checked with my laptop and I see the pop up option. When you click the match you will see a comment box in the top right corner click that and choose the Italian language. If the match is broadcasted on CBSSN it will not have an Italian SAP option. Forza Napoli!!!

So far for 4 games on Saturday I believe only one had the Italian SAP option. It’s really upsetting do the fact that the Serie A doesn’t exist on Rai anymore so this is the chance that Paramount Plus needs to step up and have this option for all the games. It would also be nice to see Paramount Plus U.S studio bring some Italian analysts as well since Marco and Matteo both speak Italian to give little more authenticity to the beautiful game of the Italian Serie A. My other complaint is that the quality is 480p and it’s not even HD Quality. It’s 2021 and let’s face it who watches sd quality. Let’s hope for the best. Any suggestions you have for Paramount Plus. Forza Napoli

The Italian SAP option doesn’t exist on phones yet. If you try in the live tv section or the Serie A section you get the same result. I have a Galaxy S9 and still no option. Does it work for anyone on their phones?

    August 29, 2021 at 8:01 am

@Dante- The only way you can find the Italian SAP option if it has a way where it says the live section or it says channels. You can see your live channels such as CBS Sports HQ and CBSN. Under that section click the match you want to watch and their is a symbol in the top right corner that looks like a comment box. Click that box and it should say Italian or English depending on the match. The Fiorentina-Torino match had this option. I used a Firestick the 3rd Gen I believe and also the net Google Chromecast with Remote. I would love to see all the matches with the Italian SAP option. You can only see this feature if you through the live section where you see all the channels. Forza Napoli!!!

Paramount Plus in their first week with their pre-half-post coverage is excellent. Their analysts team is excellent and we need more of this. This group can create an amazing Golazo Zone since Rai Italia doesn’t have La Giostra Del Goal anymore. It would also be nice to see the Italian announcers and Paramount Plus team working working together during pre-half-post coverage having an Italian American coverage. It would be a new and interesting idea to have both interacting with each other since Marco and Matteo both speak Italian. More games with Italian SAP option and also this feature to be available on all platforms. We also need an HD quality stream. Overall excellent coverage so far and I’m excited and thrilled to see what Paramount Plus can do with the Serie A.

So far the streaming for both matches is excellent and the picture quality is okay. The Italian SAP option for the Bologna Saleritana game is amazing a fantastic addition to the app. We need more Italian SAP options for all the matches? If the match is on CBSSN it’s the exact same stream as Paramount Plus just to clarify for everyone. If the match is on CBSSN their is no SAP option only subtitles. Overall so far everything is going well and Forza Napoli!!! Any thoughts and suggestions for Paramount Plus?

I’m waiting for Spanish comm to be available to even think about subscribing to P+. Chris said they never promised that, yet I’m pretty sure he quoted it in one of the stories.

@locofooty and @Ra- Bologna Saleritana has an Italian SAP option and it works brilliantly. The Juventus game has no option to change the language. Overall stream is pretty clear and let’s hope for the best. Forza Napoli. I hope we get a Italian SAP option for the Napoli game today.

Anyone having issues with the Italia SAP option for the Serie A matches? I tried on all four games and I didn’t see an option. August 22, 2021 at 8:54 am

@Ra- I tried it on my phone, my Google TV, and my firestick and I didn’t see an option. Hopefully I see it today for some of the matches. The Sassuolo stream was glitchy at times and is going to be an issue when the big time matches start to happen. I wonder if CBSSN coverage the Udinese-Juventus match will be the same on Paramount Plus. I wonder how many matches will the Italian SAP option be available for. Overall I love the pre-half-post coverage of the Italian Serie A with Marco and Matteo excellent. The chemistry that those two produce is brilliant and we need a golazo zone with these guys. The English announcers at times can be dreadful and the quality is okay to say the least. Overall I’m glad it’s working and everyone is happy. Forza Napoli. P.S Paramount Plus needs to post Serie A information on their website.

  32. Ra

    August 22, 2021 at 8:46 am

@Michelangelo The live Sassuolo game did have it. I was able to change in my AppleTV. It is not available in the replay however. If you are using GoogleTV you will find language options in a top right icon while watching it.

  33. Michelangelo

    August 22, 2021 at 8:42 am

I didn’t see an Italian SAP option for any of the games yesterday. I’ve also noticed during the Sassulo-Verona game the stream was glitching and freezing at times especially during Raspadori’s goal. We need an Italian SAP option since it was promised to us. So far I love the coverage from Matteo and Marco during the Pre-Half-Post game coverage. The chemistry between the two is incredible and I’m very proud of them both. Hopefully we have a Italian SAP option due to the fact that some of these commentators are horrendous. Overall excellent so far. Thank you so much everyone. Forza Napoli!!!

  38. JP

@mike, the no RAI situation might be a result of the Italian TV rights, they were left out this time while last contract had 3 matches a round. Contract before that think they had all matches.

    August 21, 2021 at 4:19 pm

yes well its still $10 a month and the games broadcast just went to HD last season. i live in an italian speaking household…it the principal of it.

whats next ? so now as a calcio fan i have to pay for another channel ? and then what after a year theyll charge it to $10, or then show 2 games a week, then stop all together or go outta buisness/ get bought out and transferred to another company.

  40. me

    August 21, 2021 at 4:12 pm

just crazy …cuz i knew CBS+ was carrying CL coverage and some Serie A english coverage but never thought Id lose all of RAIs italian coverage. it nearly makes no sense for a company like Paramount + to carry Serie A less only to squeeze calcio fans. and its disgusting how once CL, AND EUROS and leagues were shown for free now one must have pay to view. soon the worldcup will need a subscription or ppv

  41. JP

    August 21, 2021 at 4:11 pm

@mike, when I had RAI it was $10 a month and not even HD. Paramount+ is only $5 and you get all the matches instead of just three

personally this f@#king disgusting. iv had RAI for over a decade, and one of the reasons was to watch serie A and the national team qualifiers and friendlies. they took away the national team games 3 years ago…ok but now the entire serie A league ???!!! cmon. so i have to subscribe/purchase more cable channels ?
…and not to mention my cable already removed all ESPN networks 5 years ago. why is cable constantly raping its customers for more money when they already charge $100s of dollars a month.

  45. Michelangelo

    August 20, 2021 at 9:25 am

@JP- What about having La Giostra Del Goal crew on Paramount Plus and they could join some of the American broadcasting team. It would be nice to see a Goalazo zone in Italian or in English. Paramount is doing a great job but not so great when it comes to their website. The website states that the Serie A is coming soon and it starts tomorrow. Paramount and their customer service team have no idea what the Serie A is.

  46. JP

    August 19, 2021 at 1:56 pm

Based on the last few years of coverage on RAI, believe the select matches with Italian commentary will be the 9am (one match) and 2:45pm Sunday window then maybe the 12pm or 2:45pm Saturday

    August 19, 2021 at 1:31 pm

My question is will all the matches be available in Italian SAP option? If the match is broadcasted on CBSSN will the audience have the option to directly change the audio on their tv or it has to be through the app? If the match is broadcasted through CBSSN will the audience only have English as their only option? This is the best news so far and thank you so much @Christopher for all your all and amazing work that your creating on the website. Thank you so much for all your all your help. My question for you @Christopher is will the Serie A get a Golazo zone coverage similar to the champions league and Europa League? What would you like to see on the Paramount Plus App for the Italian Serie A? Thank you so much and Forza Napoli!!!

    • Christopher Harris

      August 19, 2021 at 1:46 pm

Michelangelo, the article addresses some of your questions. In the beginning, it’ll be select matches.

Remember that all of the games will be available on Paramount+. So if it’s a select game that does feature Italian-language commentary, that will be available on Paramount+ only, not TV. That same game could be on CBS Sports Network but it’ll be in English and it’s unlikely that Italian-language will be offered via SAP on television.

As for your other questions, those are best for the FAQ page (we don’t have all of the information at this time for some of the questions you have).
