TelevisaUnivision adds Colombian and Peruvian soccer leagues to streaming

Colombian and Peruvian soccer leagues

TelevisaUnivision has added select matches from the Colombian and Peruvian soccer leagues to its streaming platform. As a result, the leagues will be more accessible than ever before in the United States.

Currently, select games from Colombia Categoría Primera A and LIGA 1 Perú are available via PrendeTV, the free ad-supported streaming service. As of March 31, PrendeTV will evolve into ViX, the new Spanish-language streaming service. Compared to PrendeTV, ViX will have an improved interface and more content.

Just a few of the well-known teams that play in leagues from Colombia and Peru include Alianza Lima, Sporting Cristal, Junior F.C., Independiente Medellin, Universitario, Independiente Santa Fe, among many others.

For example, this weekend, Prende TV will stream the Clásico Vallecaucano on Saturday. The game features Deportivo Cali versus América de Cali clash (6PM ET kickoff). On that same evening, PrendeTV will stream Deportivo Municipal vs. Universitario (7PM ET) from the Peruvian league.

Growing the ViX brand

“The addition of these two South American leagues to our robust streaming soccer offering, which also includes the Brasileirão, Argentina’s Liga Profesional de Fútbol and select Liga MX and UEFA Champions League matches, leverages TUDN’s positioning as The Home of Soccer and makes it available on ViX to super-serve fans with the best competitions from around the globe,” said Juan Carlos Rodriguez, president of Sports Global Enterprises of TelevisaUnivision. “We will continue expanding our sports offering to position ViX as an incredible soccer destination for Spanish-Language speakers around the globe like only we can do.”

Up until now, fans of Colombian and Peruvian club soccer teams had limited options for watching games. Available through DirecTV, Perú Magico had been televising games from Peru. As for the Colombian league, games were available exclusively via the streaming service Fanatiz. Select games were also televised via the RCN Nuestra Tele channel.

PrendeTV’s other soccer content

In addition to leagues from Colombia and Peru, Prende TV has more soccer. In July 2021, TelevisaUnivision finalized an agreement to stream live matches from the Campeonato Brasileirão Série A and B and Argentine Primera División games, including playoffs and the SuperCopa, to fans over its PrendeTV service.

The launch of ViX on March 31, 2022 (and late 2022 for ViX+) will mean that Prende TV (just launched in March 2021) will be phased out. With ViX, the plan is for TelevisaUnivision to have one global brand. TelevisaUnivision sees the ViX app as its be-all and end-all.

ViX will also include a brand-new 24/7 sports news channel called Zona TUDN. This will be in addition to the 100+ linear channels available for free on ViX.

Apple TV has updated the icon as Vix. Have not gone in yet, but looks like transition is done on that device.

Interesting to see another data point. I am watching Poland-Sweden and the iPad app is still Prende with a pop-up that it will become ViX on March 31. They note the transition will happen automatically and be free. A few notes as of 29 March on iPad:
      .
      1. The upper right of the game screen shows TUDN | PRENDE TV EN VIVO (anyone whose app has changed to ViX see anything different?)
      2. The announcers discuss a few upcoming events on ViX (all covered previously by WST) and pronounce it like the cough medicine – “Vicks”

Dont know what I did but today when PrendeTV started all the logos/interface showed VIX,

Is everybody having the same experience?

(And it seems more matches are now available under VIX; for the Colombian league I counted three matches airing tomorrow and a lot of UEFA national teams games – more than six – in the next couple of day)

@Eric Marchan, perhaps they are rolling out to different users or platforms at different times. As of today, I get a pop-up reminder that Prende will become ViX on March 31 and offering click to learn more. Other than that, it looks like Prende. This is on iPad app.

    Thanks for the info!

I have been a subscriber to Fanatiz mostly for the Colombian league – this morning took a look at PrendeTV (after one year not using it – last time time was in the summer during the Euros and the Copa Oro).

Their coverage for the Colombian league seems to be superior to the one in Fanatiz, as you can watch the games after they air… In Fanatiz (for the Colombian games, other leagues have a VOD option), if you dont watch live no option to catch afterwards.

PrendeTV, you regain a customer. Viva Colombia and its futbol!!!

@Mario Garcia, I have not even given PrendeTV a try until I read your comment. I too have been a subscriber to Fanatiz and I tend to watch a lot of Colombian matches on the service. The only issue I see is the amount of commercials during the VOD, the match that I’m watching right now on their android app has 9 commercial breaks and the first and second breaks each had 6 commercials!!!

You’re right – they have a ton of ads. Still went over a couple of the matches, without skipping the ads, to support PrendeTV for adding the Colombian league…

The live matches that I watched this past weekend did not have all the ads which is a good thing!! I did switched back and forth between PrendeTV and Fanatiz during a same match and it seems that PrendeTV has a better picture quality, at least for me using appleTV.

That was nice to see as an Universitario fan, finally in HD! It seems like they are getting more and more stuff from Fanatiz.

Are the Uruguayan and Ecuadorian leagues coming to Vix too? Will UEFA national teams be on Vix?
