ViX+ reveals pricing details and soccer coverage plans

ViX+ pricing details

The days of ViX offering all soccer games for free are coming to an end. Up until now, TelevisaUnivision’s service ViX has been streaming select games for free in Spanish-language. But ViX+, the paid streaming service is launching in July 2022. As a result, some games that were available for free before will only be available via the paid service. Therefore, due to the big changes, we have the ViX+ pricing details and more information of what to expect.

Traditionally, many Spanish-language viewers are accustomed to watching a lot of content for free. For example, Univision is an over-the-air channel. Plus, UniMas is a free-to-air channel that you can watch locally in many major cities with a HD antenna. Similarly, ViX and its predecessor Prende TV are free.

Launch date and pricing details for ViX+

Starting July 21, Spanish-language viewers need to pay to watch a lot of Univision’s soccer content. Hence, the reason why ViX+ is a big change for soccer fans.

Promising tens of thousands of hours of Spanish-language content, ViX+ is available for $6.99 per month. In a press release to announce the launch, ViX+ promises more than 3,000 live games per year.

Paid soccer coverage on ViX+

So what does ViX+ include for soccer fans?

“ViX+ will be a destination for women’s soccer in the United States, including U.S. Women’s National Team and Mexico’s Women’s National Team,” said a statement from TelevisaUnivision. “ViX+ will feature South America’s top domestic soccer leagues including Brasileirão Championship, Argentina’s Liga Profesional de Fútbol, Colombian Primera División and Perú Liga 1.”

Currently, select games from the above mentioned competitions are available for free via Univision, UniMas and ViX.

Specifically, ViX+ will feature exclusive live Liga MX matches in both the U.S. and Mexico. In addition, ViX and VIX+ will feature over 200 exclusive live Liga de Expansión MX and Liga MX Femenil matches per year in both the U.S and Mexico.

Importantly, ViX+ will stream coverage of UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League matches in Spanish in the United States. That means that games that may have been available for free previously will be behind a paywall. Finally, ViX and VIX+ will be the Spanish-language home of all UEFA National Team competitions, notably UEFA Nations League, Euro Qualifiers, UEFA Euro, and the Finalissima.

ViX+’s goal is to be the global Spanish-language streaming service. ViX+ is available on Apple iOS and tvOS, Android mobile and Android TV OS devices, and all major streaming devices and TVs, as well as via the web.

I subscribe to Vix+ via YouTube TV and I absolutely love it! I’ve been following the Colombian League, I enjoy watching America de Cali whenever I can.

I fully agree with the commenter that call Univision “greedy bastards.” Once Univision started broadcasting Liga MX games through ViX +, I stopped watching any games in Univision in protest. As a matter of fact, I don’t subscribe to any of the streaming services that have stolen soccer away from the fans as far as I am concerned. Just like the commenter said, I refuse to give my money to any of these greedy bastards. As long as I am paying over 150 dollars for satellite TV, I will not waste any money on separate streaming services. When all TV content is broadcast exclusively on streaming, only then will I reconsider my stance. But I will not pay for both satellite and streaming. I wish that more people would follow suit so that the greedy bastards stop stealing our money.

T-Mobile offering a year free of Vix+. Got Paramount+ free and now Vix. Freaking love T-Mobile.

This is awesome. I will check this out today. I am already getting Netflix & MLB.TV free from T-Mobile. I had added to be Sling International sports package for $6.99 that raises my bill to $17.00 a month. If I can get it for free for 1 year, that will make for me have to given up Paramount+ after my one year ran out and they started charging me. Thanks for the update.

To build on “Specifically, ViX+ will feature exclusive live Liga MX matches in both the U.S. and Mexico”, it looks like Liga MX Apertura 2022 broadcasting in the US is:
    .
    * Telemundo – home games for Chivas (no change)
    * FOXD/ESPND – home games for Rayados, Santos, Xolos (no change); home games for Bravos (new)
    * ViX+ – any game where 1) TUDN has home team rights, and 2) Necaxa, Queretaro, Mazatlan, or Toluca are playing (this includes home or road games involving these teams)
    * Univision/TUDN – all other games
    .
I hope TUDN plan an integrated sports app that includes ViX+ and TUDN games (e.g., ESPN app). Simplicity is an advantage of full league deals like MLS-Apple or La Liga-ESPN+

Thanks for this summary. You were more clear than any website I’ve visited.

        Glad it is helpful
        .
FYI, TUDN have become less predictable about what games go to ViX+. It looks like priority may currently be three consecutive TUDN/Univision games on Saturday when possible. They then swap a game or two if needed to keep “enough” Liga MX content on each of TUDN and ViX+, with TUDN generally getting the more desirable game or time

Liga MX matches in English on TUDN going to continue???

    • dave

      July 17, 2022 at 2:24 pm

@Turfit, I am watching Pumas-Necaxa in Spanish on ViX. Out of curiosity, I checked TUDN (studio programming in Spanish) and TUDNxtra (nothing on any channel). As of today, ViX does not have pause, rewind, fast forward, or any language other than Spanish. I will try to check if TUDNxtra has an English feed during this evening’s match on TUDN

        July 17, 2022 at 6:08 pm

I am watching San Luis-Rayados (July 17) in Spanish on TUDN. Just checked and it is being simulcast in English on TUDNxtra1

      • dave

        July 17, 2022 at 8:14 pm

Another data point from Tigres-Xolos (July 17) – game is OTA on UniMas in Spanish, simulcast on TUDN in Spanish, simulcast on TUDNxtra2 in English

I am using ViX heavily for tournaments this month and plan to sign up for ViX+
    .
I noticed areas where ViX is not (yet) at the high TUDN standard. A few issues are new this month – maybe problems specific to these tournaments? Curious if anyone experienced similar and/or knows of workarounds:
    .
    1. I have to type my credentials every time I open ViX on Roku
    2. Commentators are sometimes ~5 seconds ahead of video (whistles, crowds, and video are in sync)
    3. ViX is sometimes ~2 minutes behind real-time, which is ~1 minute behind Paramount+
    4. I am not aware of a central TUDN app like ESPN that aggregates linear and streaming content I am paying for, so there is some app-switching friction

Just had to create the account (process very easy) to watch America vs Envigado (Colombian League).

The moment to start having to pay is approaching !

  8. Football Fan

    July 9, 2022 at 4:33 pm

I am an avid football fan, but I am not sold on Vix+ at all

I am not interested AT ALL in any Liga MX, Liga de Expansion Mx and Liga Mx Femenil matches

I am only interested in the UEFA Champions League and for that, I will prefer to go with Paramount +.

Univision has gone the greedy way, but they are not getting any money out of me.

      I agree.
Not paying to see femexfut of any kind.
They are corrupt boring and greedy.
HULU AN PARAMOUNT have all UEFA LEAGUES.
NOT GIVING MY MONEY TO THOSE CORRUPT TELEVISUNIVISION GREEDY $%%^&*S.

  9. Leo

    July 9, 2022 at 12:21 am

ViX now request an email account to watch its content. Hopefully, the interface to pay will be straightforward in 7/21. Seven bucks for UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa league and tons of Mexican and South American Leagues plus other minor continental soccer here and there is a bargain. Similar to ESPNplus in a sense.

    • dave

      July 9, 2022 at 8:17 am

@Leo, I agree, ViX+ seems like the Spanish-language Disney bundle, with a Deportes section rather similar to ESPN+. Content and price look great for my interests
      .
E-mail and password process was a little dodgy. No text or e-mail to confirm I own the credentials, yet I could link devices. Hope it is more polished before credit card time

        July 9, 2022 at 11:39 am

the content and pricing will only be worth it if they step up the video quality…

        • Leo

          July 9, 2022 at 1:37 pm

Not everyone needs 4K Ultra HD or whatever is the latest technology. As long as is HD and have ALL the UEFA Champions League in ONE platform for the price of a cup of coffee is worth. Pausing/Rewinding functions of live events would be appreciate though, and I wonder if they will add on demand games like ESPNplus does.

          • dave

            July 9, 2022 at 7:16 pm

@Leo and @SteveK, a fun part of all the fragmentation is learning how fans prioritize features. Unless an expert sat with me while I had ViX side-by-side with something higher quality, I would be unaware of any difference. For others, the difference is so glaring as to be a deal-breaker
            .
Pause/rewind would be helpful. ViX has on-demand replays just below Proximamente. Not 100% and sometimes just for a few days. Reasonably well organized by category

            • SteveK

              July 10, 2022 at 10:23 am

Leo and dave, believe me, I hear what you are saying, I am not talking about the latest technology, not talking about 4K, I am merely asking for something slightly better than SD with a decent enough bandwidth and frame rate so the video doesn’t stutter. Granted, I have only watched 10 or so games on ViX, mostly the Nations League qualifiers but if I had to grade their video quality I’d say it was below average to poor. It was worth what we were paying at the time and my sense was not in the minority here at WST. This is watching through an Apple TV 4K over very fast Comcast internet, which is how I watch ALL my soccer via ESPN+ Paramount+ Peacock etc. I am sure they will step up their game once they start charging, they will have to if they hope to lure English speakers away from Paramount+

                July 10, 2022 at 11:23 am

I also complained about image quality. It was horrible for Nations League, but it was fine for Brasileirao. I assume their encoding issues was limited to Nations League, but it is something to check before subscribing. At this point Paramount still offers better value to me, but it will depend on dvr and on-demand implementation.

              Hi everyone,
Does anyone know where i can watch games for Napoli Serie A games in Spanish?

I know they are on paramount plus, but only in English unless that has changed since last year.

              Thanks

Espn plus is free on HULU.

It goes down to Libertadores/Sudamericana. If P+ gets a monopoly on language rights, I go with them. If Vix+ gets spanish rights, I go with them.

      July 5, 2022 at 3:35 pm

It’s gonna be another cnn+ fail paramount + is way better and more cheaper and you get better content including some new movies as well as champions league womens national team serie a and other South American leagues as well as concaf qualify

    • Ra

      July 6, 2022 at 8:00 am

Same here. The next big news is who will get Libertadores/Sudamericana. I just hope that Fubo doesn’t get it, otherwise I will be looking for a good VPN provider. I will never get Fubo.

Paramount+ just offers more value. I will also consider Vix only if they provide DVR controls, and have a better UI across the board.

ViX hooked us with the old drug dealer business model: first one is free. I’d subscribe if they offered a football only tier; their other content doesn’t interest me much.

  12. ZuDfunck

    July 5, 2022 at 6:15 am

I knew it was too good to true
    All that content being free
Well at least we had the Nations League for free.

  13. Mario Garcia

    July 4, 2022 at 11:22 pm

Oh non they’re going to start to charge!

They have really good content so will likely subscribe, at least for the months where the Colombian League is playing.

Wondering here which content will stay free, if some good matches stay free (because from the press release so far only the second division of the mexican league seem to stay free).
