ps. no secret probably to the faithful here, but I think it is nice that the MLS guy gets the hero goal. I just have to wonder, Altidore played well, but when you play on a team that doesn’t score any goals, is that the reason you miss your opportinity to be the hero earlier ?

Horrible decision by the referee and assistant referee in the first half to disallow Clint Dempsey’s goal. Rather than dwell on the conspiracies, though, co-commentator John Harkes needs to focus on the game itself. There’s still 45 minutes to play.
But what a tense first half it has been. Algeria has looked *very* dangerous on the counter-attack. Their shots at goal have been close. And the early one hit the crossbar.
As for the US, they’re creating chances up front which is the main thing, but they haven’t been able to put the ball into the back of the net. Jozy should have scored, but he fired it over the bar. Dempsey had a good chance in front of goal but was prevented from scoring after Algeria defended well.
Some interesting changes by Bradley to kick off the match. Onyewu off, Bornstein on. Findley off, too.
This is going to be a great second half. But US needs to play better.
