DIRECTV NOW adds access to NBC Sports and FOX Sports GO apps

Legal streaming service DIRECTV NOW offers subscribers access to several apps that will be of interest to sports fans, adding tons of additional programming that otherwise are not available.

Of particular interest to soccer fans is the fact that DIRECTV NOW offers access to NBC Sports App, FOX Sports GO, Telemundo Now and WatchESPN at no extra charge. If you’re a DIRECTV NOW subscriber, all you have to do is use your DIRECTV NOW login information to access those additional apps.

For fans of the Premier League, a subscription to DIRECTV NOW will allow you to watch all of the games across NBCSN, CNBC and USA. Plus, now with access to the NBC Sports App being available, that means you can watch every single Premier League match via the NBC Sports App (even the ones that are shown on the over-the-air NBC network that’s not available live via DIRECTV NOW).

DIRECTV NOW is a completely separate streaming service that’s available to cord cutters. No subscription to the DIRECTV satellite is needed. All you need is an Internet connection.

DIRECTV NOW is currently offering a free 7-day trial.

    Hi Chris,

Desperate to cut the cord from cable. Main objective is to watch the Premiership games and Champions from the UK which often screen in the very early hours.

In your opinion which is the best option to be able to record or DVD those games or watch later in the day On Demand?

I’m currently considering Sling TV, Directv Now (or maybe Playstation Vue) but I don’t always want to have to watch the games LIVE.

What do you see as the best option?

    Thanks

Hi Baz, I would recommend the Sling Blue+Orange combination, which is $40 per month. The DVR is an extra $5 per month. You’ll be able to record the Premier League games. For the Championship matches, those will be available on replay through the ESPN3.com website (or WatchESPN app). You can use your Sling TV login credentials to access those replays.

They offer a 7-day free trial so I would recommend checking it out to see if that would be the best fit for you.

    Gaffer,

I’m about to cut the cord this weekend. Am I right that the only two streaming services that offer authentication for the NBC Sports App are Fubo and DirectTV Now?

Also, what about authentication for the Bein Sports and Fox Sports Go Apps?

I use Sling now (in addition to Verizon Fios), but it seems as if Sling doesn’t play well with authentication apps.

Hi Anthony, PlayStation Vue also authenticates with NBC Sports App, but PlayStation Vue does not carry beIN SPORTS.

fubo and DIRECTV NOW authenticate with NBC Sports App, FOX Sports Go and beIN SPORTS Connect, but fuboTV is the only streaming service that integrates beIN SPORTS Connect directly into their streaming platform.

I’ve created a few different viewing guides / cheatsheets that you may want to check out that go into more detail. You can find them at http://worldsoc.cr/2fSLOLb

“Plus, now with access to the NBC Sports App being available, that means you can watch every single Premier League match via the NBC Sports App (even the ones that are shown on the over-the-air NBC network that’s not available live via DIRECTV NOW).”

I’ve experienced something which suggests that this is not true.

When I authenticate with my cable login, I can see the NBC broadcast network game on Saturday afternoons. When I login with Direct TV now creds, the NBC network game can’t be selected.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Championship Sunday was similar last year: the games on the fringe NBC networks (like the Esquire channel), wouldn’t even be shown when logining in via the cable provider creds because my cable subscription didn’t have access to them.

Hi Ritchie, NBC has changed their policy since the article was originally written (in May). They’re now stopping subscribers with streaming services being able to watch NBC games via the NBC Sports App.

The only way I’ve been able to get around this so far is to watch the game in Spanish (usually on Universo). Or, connect an indoor HD antenna to watch the game without the streaming service.

    Hi Chris,

In my experience logging into the NBC doesn’t allow you to watch ALL live Premier League games the way using a cable account would. You can still only watch the one game being aired on the DirecTV Now app.

Could you confirm if that’s not the case with you?

Last season, you would have been able to watch the games not shown on TV via the app. But because NBC Sports launched Premier League Pass, you’ll now only be able to see the games on TV after authenticating your login through the NBC Sports App.

There are at least three advantages to this:
-you can watch games on over the air Fox and NBC that might not be available to you depending on your market (some do have access)
-you can watch on Roku (the core DTV Now app isn’t available there yet)
-logging in to these apps don’t count as one of your two streams, so you still have two others that your family can use

Does beIN sport connect have an app for any streaming device? (Fire tv, apple tv, Xbox etc.)

    • Christopher Harris

      May 3, 2017 at 3:39 pm

beIN SPORTS Connect has an app that’s available on Android and iOS devices. But in order to watch games on it, you have to log in (via one of the services listed below) to prove that you have a cable or satellite subscription. beIN SPORTS Connect is only available to customers of AT&T, Atlantic Broadband, Bright House, Cox, DirecTV, Dish, Time Warner and Verizon Fios.

If you’re like me and your TV provider isn’t on that list, then a streaming service like fuboTV is a better option to access beIN SPORTS Connect. Plus if you’re a cord cutter, you can still access beIN SPORTS Connect via fubo.
