The debut season of the Champions League on Univision Deportes and Turner Sports has been an incredible success for UEFA and the two broadcasters who have broken numerous records as more people have watched this competition than ever before in the United States.
Both Univision Deportes and TNT are generating the most-viewed domestic coverage ever in their respective languages.
During the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League, the games averaged 1.25 million viewers per game. Univision Deportes averaged 695,000 viewers, the largest average audience ever for a UEFA Champions League semifinal round on any network, regardless of language. TNT’s four semifinal matches averaged 557,000 viewers, 26% more than last year’s coverage on FOX Sports, with double-digit gains across all key demos.
UEFA Champions League telecasts on TNT are up 54% compared to last year’s coverage on FOX Sports — featuring significant gains across all key demos, including People 25-54 (+59%), People 18-49 (+61%), People 18-34 (+52%) and Women up 96%.
The very watchable pre-match coverage by TNT has trumped the pre-game talking heads that FOX Sports had. Viewership for Turner’s B/R Football Matchday studio telecasts are up 91% when compared to last year’s pre-match shows through the UCL semifinals.

Overall, across Turner Sports, fans have consumed 1.6 billion minutes of UEFA Champions League coverage across TNT, B/R Live and TV Everywhere apps this season.
Head to head, Univision’s coverage of the UEFA Champions League is the first time since 2013 that the Spanish-language viewing numbers have surpassed the English-language average. Univision’s numbers are 25% greater than Turner Sports.
Out of all of the games, the May 1 broadcast of Barcelona-Liverpool was the most-watched UEFA Champions League semifinal match of all-time on U.S. Spanish language television averaging 789,000 viewers compared to the second leg that averaged 770,000 viewers. Combined with the TNT English-language viewing numbers, the first leg averaged 1.398 million viewers, while the second leg averaged 1.43 million viewers.

Someone from Fox must have hurt you in some way. The fact you even typed this is a joke. Fox was not perfect but the coverage and talking heads were better than TNT and its not even close. I have literally not talked to one person who would not want it back on FOX. Your agendas are glaring!

The “very watchable” note regarding the pregame stuff seemed “a bit” over the top. It does read like a Turner Network press release.

It’s subjective. In my opinion, TNT’s pre-match coverage has improved over time and is far more watchable than anything FOX did for the Champions League.

The tactical discussion on TNT (pregame ONLY – not halftime or post-game) is definitely superior to that which FOX had. Everything else – random social media content, Steve Nash’s “analysis”, the frequent commercial breaks, the Spurs fanboying, and the fact that no one ever tells Kate Abdo what is happening next – is glaringly amateurish.

TNT coverage was poor compared to ESPN or Fox. TNT only carried two games per week (one on Wed and one on Tue) as compared to ESPN and Fox showing multiple games on each night. TNT Pre and post game analysis was poor, Nash mostly went on about his love for Tottenham , this might have been ok for one segment but every night was too much. Worst coverage of the tournament I have seen.

I ponder if the ratings were higher due to the larger than average EPL presence from the Quarterfinals on, it certainly wasn’t for the pregame/half-time production. Also, imagine how many more minutes of viewership would have occurred if TNT actually broadcasted a few more games instead of hiding so much behind a paywall.
Univision beat out TNT, likely in part because it was the only option for people to catch the game they wanted to watch.

Blame (or thank) the B/R Live paywall and Turner not utilizing TBS or TruTV to show multiple matches per window. Most of us were smart enough to just watch it on Univision with Spanish commentary even if we don’t speak Spanish. The game is the same either way.

Absolute awful . No analysis what so ever just garbage . The best analysis is on ESPNFC were Turner will not allow the highlights to be shown . They allow NBCSN to show the highlights and give proper analysis which they did at the start of Championship Sunday spent about 15 minutes talking about it . Stu Holden tries to give u something but the other amateurs just cannot give it any kind of interest B/ R Live website is a joke half of the magazine show are not even available and when u e- mail them they just acknowledge your e- mail and that’s the last u hear from them . My subscription is up on June 3rd so that will be the end for me

Fox Soccer and Fox Sports broadcasts of the Champions League and Europa Matches we’re far more superior. Plus they showed each match without the additional paywall structure. Plus they don’t show any Europa matches until the final. Fox did all the matches. Plus I like Steve Nash as a basketball player, but I really don’t find his analysis intriguing. He doesn’t bring you inside the game and just gives ‘chalk’ analysis. Bring back Fox!

My interest in this competition has waned considerably over the years. Group stages way too predictable and even knockout stage to some extent. Too many blowout matches along the way. Fortunately this year we had some great matches from the QFs on.

Univision is awful, Many people like that they can see more games but what’s the point if their announcers are awful? Their analysts are bad as well. They really ruined the great moments and there was a lot this season. Only reasons they got good viewership is because they are an over the air channel. Many housewives always have it on Univision to watch their telenovelas, that was probably also a factor. Univision is also one of the most recognizable networks for Latinos in the US, Its the McDonald’s of Latino channels in the US. They are the most recognizable, known network for Latinos in the US but they are far from the best. The fact that the semifinals were really good this year helped as well, Really miss the Spanish Fox and ESPN announcers.

its still a disgrace of the tnt coverage with so much behind a paywall. you cant tell me what ever they run on trutv or courttv or tbs would get better rattings than CL or EL matches.
