Here’s the CBS All Access FAQ when it comes to UEFA club soccer matches.
With CBS Sports being the new broadcaster of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League in the United States, we’ve been overwhelmed by all of your questions and requests for specifics about their new deal. What does it include? Will games be available on-demand? How soon after matches end? So on and so forth.
To get all of the answers to your questions, we’ve spent lots of time doing our own research as well as speaking with CBS Sports executives to get the specifics for you.
CBS All Access FAQ
Q: What is CBS All Access?
A: CBS All Access is the paid streaming service from CBS that includes original programming, movies, exclusive series, live streams of CBS channels and, most important of all, sports.
Beginning August 2020, CBS All Access is the new home of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League for viewers in the United States.
In 2021, CBS will rename and rebrand the streaming service with a new name and look-and-feel.
Q: What does CBS All Access include and why do I need it?
A: CBS All Access will stream (both live and on-demand) every single UEFA Champions League, Europa League and UEFA Conference League game. No cable or satellite TV subscription is required. So if you’re a cord cutter or someone who wants to simply save money, CBS All Access is worth considering.
The vast majority of games will only be available in English via CBS All Access. CBS does plan to air a few games on CBS Sports Network, but without CBS All Access, you’ll be missing out on the Champions League and Europa League in English-language.
Q: How much is CBS All Access?
A: CBS All Access is $5.99 per month (or $9.99 per month without advertising).
Another option to consider is to sign up for the annual plan which is $59.99 per year or $99.99 per year (with no advertising). You save 15% by opting for the annual plan.
Q: How long will CBS All Access have the Champions League and Europa League?
A: From August 2020 through to June 2024.
Q: How reliable is CBS All Access?
A: In the tests that we’ve done, CBS All Access seems robust and we haven’t experienced any problems at all watching live or on-demand content.
CBS All Access launched in 2014, so it has a track record of many years of streaming to its subscribers.
Q: How many subscribers does CBS All Access have?
A: As of 2019, CBS had 4 million CBS All Access subscribers, according to reports.
Q: Will CBS Sports offer extended highlights of Champions League and Europa League games on YouTube? B/R Football used to have them on YouTube approximately 15 minutes after games ended.
A: CBS Sports will have highlights of games available on their YouTube channel. And they’ve pledged to get them uploaded as quickly as possible.
Q: After games end, how soon will the games be available on-demand via CBS All Access for those who miss the live broadcasts?
A: In speaking with a CBS Sports executive, he said that the broadcaster will try to get the games available on-demand as soon as they can after matches end. Since this week will be the first time they’re doing it, this will give us the first indications of roughly how long it’ll take to be uploaded. Certainly, all games will be available on-demand the same day at the very least.
Q: Where will viewers be able to watch the Champions League preview shows and review shows?
A: Everything will be available on CBS All Access, which will be the go-to destination for the UEFA Champions League.
Q: Will the Champions League and Europa League games on CBS All Access be broadcast in 720p, 1080i/p, and will it be 30FPS or 60FPS?
A: To begin with, broadcasts of Champions League and Europa League games will be 1080i/p and 30FPS via CBS All Access.
A CBS Sports executive told World Soccer Talk that it plans on increasing the frames per second to 60 in the future. 60FPS is the goal.
CBS is also working towards trying to have HDR broadcasts of Champions League games available as early as spring 2021.

Q: What talent will CBS All Access have doing the games?
A: Commentators hired by CBS will include Peter Drury and Clive Tyldesley. As far as the studio talent, they will include (exclusive to CBS Sports): Roberto Martinez, Jamie Carragher, Peter Schmeichel, Ruud Gullit, Peter Drury, Alex Scott, Micah Richards and presenter Kate Abdo.
Q: If I already have a subscription to a cable or satellite or different streaming provider, can I log into CBS All Access via authentication to watch UEFA Champions League coverage?
A: Good question. The games and programming that are on CBS All Access are exclusive to CBS All Access. But you can use authentication through select cable/satellite/streaming services to access games that are carried by CBS Sports Network. Note, however, that the plan is to feature very few games on television. For the month of August, only three of the games will be on CBS Sports Network.

@Kyle, I’ve noticed that consistently on CBS/Paramount+. I guess they’re taking the time to eliminate halftime and any other breaks from the replay video, but for all the grief NBC/Peacock get, they’re much better about getting replays up quickly.

Match ended 3 hours ago and still not available to watch on replay. That’s how most of us are going to watch these matches since they’re on when most of us are working. What is the point of renewing my subscription when by the time I can watch the match I’ve already learned the score? This is ridiculous!!

Match replays appear on Amazon Prime very late, if at all. (Week 2’s Barcelona match and BVB never appeared)
CBS.com replays continuously throw Error 114 at me whether on my PC or Mac, despite disabling adblock. (TV shows and Movies on CBS.com work fine though)
Is CBS intentionally sabotaging themselves to drive us to TUDN?

Amazing! People who speak English, the language one must understand to become a US citizen, must pay to see UCL matches in English, but those who only speak Spanish can watch for free and hear commentary in their native tongue.

Elena, with the Champions League I have always had two concurrent streams going in the same household, either an Apple TV and iPad or Apple TV and computer. Never a problem.

I signed up for All Access a week ago to watch UCL via Amazon Fire. I can get the games live OK, but there is no On Demand or Match Replay feature. Is anyone else having this problem ? I get the Match Replays fine on my iPad, but just can’t watch the Replays on Fire TV.

CBS all access is terrible. Current match display doesn’t give option to start at the beginning and match reply doesn’t post until 3-4 hours post match. What a waste.

Could not agree more. A total waste of time and money. My kid can’t stay up until 11pm to watch a game that was on 6 hours earlier because he’s in school. It’s an absolute insult to the subscribers.

I read that the champion league games are suppose to be posted same day after the game was played. Apparently that’s not true or working.. I am on CBS All Access Trail, but this sure makes me think Again about signing up

Good evening,
It’s 8:37 PM on the East Coast on 8/18. Leipzig and Paris played their semi-final game today at 3 PM Eastern. However, the replay still has not posted. I just spoke with CBS All Access customer support, and they confirmed that it has not posted. The rep to couldn’t say when it would be posted. Seeing as CBS just says “shortly after the final whistle,” I can’t blame him. I mean, in the 1950s CBS could tell you exactly when one of their programs was airing, but I guess it’s crazy to hold a giant media company like ViacomCBS to a 60+ year old standard.
Using 1980s technology, I could have recorded this game when it aired on cable and watched it when I was done with work. (Y’know, that thing that most people are doing at 3 PM on a Tuesday.) Had it been only earlier this year, I could have DVRed the game. If I really wanted to, I could have watched it live with my Comcast cable subscription. Instead, I still can’t watch the game that wrapped hours ago and I learned the score while desperately searching online for ways to watch this game that I’ve ostensibly paid for.
Can you tell me how for a cable subscriber, when it comes to UEFA Champions League games how CBS All Access is not an added cost for a less convenient service?

I really don’t understand how something like this can happen. It really should be instantaneous (though fair game if they want to wait until after their post-game show has ended). I’ve harped on the lack of DVR when watching live, but I see these two issues as kind of going hand-in-hand: the technology certainly exists and isn’t some crazy thing (since other providers have it), and it also sort of speaks to CBS not caring too much about their viewers, which is particularly egregious considering these games air when most viewers are working.
Many will either need to pause the game occasionally when watching live (and in doing that you shouldn’t be required to miss action–this is where TV viewing is superior, being able to just hit pause), and many will need to watch after they finish work. I mean, really, you should be able to start a broadcast live OR from the start, something I’ve been able to do with MLB.tv and NHL.tv for at least a decade now.
The pre- and post-game work is professional and good, the in-game commentators strong, but if these bigger, more glaring issues persist, I don’t know if it’ll make sense to pay to subscribe come October.

Your best bet is to check with each club website to see if they’ll broadcast the game overseas via streaming.

The Pre-game and half -time shows are not available on Demand as promised . They show the game at the start of the whistle and when it blows at the end . They have showed the Europa league post match shows on Monday and Tuesday so far nothing yet about the Champions League just the game . I tried e-mailing them to find out why this the case and of course no reply . It certainly is typical of these American broadcasters who just don”t understand the football fan passion for the game with all their hype about bring it to next level . just like Turner and Fox don”t give a dam . I will not be subscribing to this nonsense

Brendan, I can confirm the Champions League pre-game shows were on the CBS apps for Apple TV and iPad for the past two days, I watched them live just fine. You should see a Watch Today banner on the Champions League page and then underneath it a “coverage begins at 2pm” note. At 2PM click on the match and the pregame show will start. At halftime it went right into the halftime show commentary as well. Again, this was on an aTV4 and an iPad.

Have to say I’m very impressed with CBS’s coverage so far. Usually don’t care for pregame and post game coverage, but they kept me mostly hooked these last 2 match days. Informative, good chemistry, professional but not self important. Reminds me of peak beIN.
Only Carragher I could do without.
Not sure how much I’ll watch when the schedule gets back to normal next season and during working days/hours, but huge improvement from what I saw on TNT

Its funny because every post i see (everywhere else but WST) is HOW do I get the most live version of streaming because they want to tweet and text and whatnot thru the matches and have no lag time like most all streaming services have compared to antenna and (3 to 5 seconds later) cable.
Yet it seems we here want to relive the 1980s with VCRs.

I think here you’re seeing the more obsessive/completist fan who wants to watch as many games as possible while wanting to be surprised at the outcomes (and who couldn’t really care less what’s being spouted by the shouting masses on social media). Maybe it’s generational?
One thing I’ve found when watching the world feed of Premier League games is that unless it’s a game very late in the season where, say, the score of another might impact the relegation chances of one that’s playing, the commentators there won’t reference the scores of any games running concurrently. (Arlo White, on the other hand, takes the more American “national broadcast” approach of spending time talking about other things happening around the league, sort of reminiscent of an ESPN Sunday Night Baseball telecast.)

Watching today’s Bayern/Chelsea game using an AppleTV on a 100″ screen, I found a huge disparity in video quality between accessing it directly via the standalone CBS app (first half) and via the AppleTV app (second half). The former seemed to be missing frames with a slightly jerky resolution, whereas the latter was akin to the smooth rendition I’m used to watching NBC Sports Gold (now Peacock) and ESPN+.
Do Apple give it some enhanced treatment to increase the frames per minute? It was a definite improvement when accessing the match via the Apple app.

I watched yesterday on CBSSN, but just now tried to replay stream on my Fire Stick. The picture looked better going through Prime Video rather than the CBS All Access App. Also, Prime video let’s you see where you are fast forwarding to in a preview screen while flying blind in the app (much like ESPN+)

I tried replaying today’s game on cbs access through amazon prime but I kept recieving “service area restriction. This video isnt available due to geographical licensing restrictions,” Message. I live in California USA. Is champions league not available in USA on cbs all access through Amazon prime? Thank you.

I read somewhere else that it won’t work via Amazon Channels you have to login to the CBS app to watch. You just have to link the account so it’s not that big a deal for me.

Could you please let your CBS friends know that announcers should not talk about the scores of the other games playing simultaneously? Or they should not let you know the other scores in any other way. They can talk about it during the half time show. I was planning to watch Juventus and Lyon game after watching the MC- Madrid match. Already knowing the results takes away a lot from enjoying a taped match. Anyone who is streaming the a match needs to punch few letters into their device to learn the results of the other games if they wish. Thank you.

I agree, it’s a shame when they announce/display scores to other matches. Unfortunately I think we’re the minority when it comes to this request. I would think they wouldn’t discuss/display scores to increase viewership. Take today for example, I’d like to watch both Barca/Napoli and Bayern/Chelsea matches but since I’ll already know the score I’ll only watch Barca/Napoli.

Is anyone able to find the UEFA pregame show on CBS All Access? I’m watching it live on CBSSN thanks to Fubo but not on the CBS app on the iPad…all the app lists is the games starting at 3pm and nothing about the pre game discussion…

Open note to any CBS executive. First, thank you for picking up for turner. Thank you for spending money on top to hire top notch on air talent. Thank you for making all games available. But also please take a moment and think about what you purchased and when all the games will air. You’ve bought rights to games almost all of which will kick off during American weekday working hours! You’ve also chose pn to put almost all the matches on streaming only. I’m ok with that decision and I get it. But that means you are asking us to pay you directly to watch the matches, which, again ,I’m happy to do. The problem is you are not being respectful yet of the fact that many of us paying subscribers need to WORK during the matches. So we will need to watch later in the day or evening. It is now 630 pm on the east coast, a natural time for someone who was WORKING to watch the Games have been over FOR HOURS. And yet are not available. We won’t become paying subscribers ,even with outstanding on air talent, if we can’t watch the games we’ve paid for when we are available to watch them. We will just watch in Spanish. Please add (as ESPN+ has always done) the ability to start watching from the beginning while a game is in progress. At minimum, games should be available from 5 pm. Thank you.

Not sure what device you are using but maybe you need to make sure you have exited completely out of the app as if you keep it open it will not reflect updates. I’ve been checking across both days and replays have been up within 90 minutes for both the 12:55 pm eastern games as well as the matches at 3 pm.

Thanks MD. It was pointed out to me that the matches WERE available had I used my laptop. I had brought my iPad outside to watch and the matches weren’t (and still are not) available on that device. I can confirm (because I am watching Wolves v Olym right now) that the replays ARE available on a PC via cbs.com. I suppose it may take awhile to get all devices going, but I will know to use my laptop this month, and hope that CBS extends the functionality to additional devices for the new season.

You have to close the app on your Apple devices – for an iPad – swipe up, find the cbs app in the panels and swipe that app Up. That will close it and once you reopen it up you’ll see a refreshed list of options. I use Apple TV and an iPad as well and it’s a nuance to their platform. Same thing happens with ESPN +. It’s not the cbs access app, it’s the platform. Sorry hard to describe.

CBS All Access is a completely separate app that “lives” outside of TV providers such as Verizon Fios, Comcast Xfinity, etc.
You can subscribe to it separately for $6 per month after the introductory free 30-day trial.

I am a fan of CBS Sports HQ, they were talking about the slate of games hours before. I don’t like after pregame on HQ I then have to find the game on the site though. First world issue…….

It is a first world issue, and yet you’re right. CBS did a good job with the NWSL Challenge Cup when they would go straight to the post game show after the live game telecast. CBS should provide both options: keep the post game show as part of the live game broadcast, or for people to go to the CBS Sports HQ to watch the post game show.

CBS’ star-studded lineup of commentators and analysts are scheduled to start on Friday with the return of UEFA Champions League. They’re in rehearsals today and tomorrow.
They’ll also present Europa League from quarterfinal stage that begin on Monday.

Christopher or anyone- I have CBS All Access through Amazon, but when I log into Amazon and go the CBS All Access there are no matches there. All I see is the Europa and Champions draw. Any tips, guidance would be appreciated.

Soccer live links are not included when you subscribe CBS All Access through Apple TV channel subscription option. Download cbs apps and subscribe all access through CBS app to get all soccer link, Very strange. I hope same apply when subscribe through amazon channel option too (Not 100% sure).

Christopher, I was using the Amazon Prime app on my LG tv. The matches do not show up there. I then plugged in my Amazon Fire on LG tv and went into Amazon Prime and the matches DO show up there. So they show up on Amazon Prime through Fire stick but not on Amazon Prime on LG tv. Strange. With that said there were four UEFA icons that I could click on but no description so no way of knowing what match is which icon. Had to go in/out of each icon before I found the Manchester United match. Not a big deal but a glitch nonetheless; maybe bring it up to your CBS people to fix.
Anyway, appreciate the help!

I’m having the same issue games not showing up in cbs all access. Channel purchased through amazon prime and accessed through the amazon prime app. They eventually show up 24 hrs later, but that’s not worth paying for if you can’t watch when you want. Service was much better with youtube tv. Was online with amazon help for over 45 min and they were completely useless. We are using an xbox one for the tv, but games don’t show up on the desktops through amazon website or on amazon app on android phones. So frustrated I’ve cancelled the channel, which I signed up for some months ago so not just taking advantage of a free trial.

If you go to cbs.com/amazon , you can link your amazon prime to cbs all access. Then you can stream it from cbs all access or through the cbs app .

All these networks that are moving the majority of soccer games to paid streaming services are sure negating the huge fan base who can’t afford to pay for all of them. When I first became an avid soccer fan I could simply turn on my tv and find soccer on espn, espn 2, nbcsn, cnbc, fox 1, fox 2. etc, etc, etc. Now I need a cable provider or streaming service that acts like a multichannel provider, and a separate streaming service for the Champions League, Premiere League, etc. You are negating people on fixed incomes like seniors, people, with disabilities, those now on unemployment due to COVID 19, and veterans. Put these games back on “regular” television.

Not easy for Americans in general to savor the flavor of soccer when they are putting up a walled garden around the very ecosystem.

Check out World Soccer Talk’s soccer package, which I think is $25 per month for all the soccer you need. Financially it seems way better than cable. Getting their package would also depend on what other programs you watch. I got rid of my cable and replaced it with CBS All Access and ESPN Plus, and I’m saving over $50 per month.

Except the Mega “Pack” doesn’t include most of the EPL most people would care about, as they’ll generally be the lower tier teams. NBC can not dilute their NBCSN programming.

Even lower squads are on regular tv more than not. Hell my Crystal Palace squad was on NBCSN more than i preferred since i bought Gold. Ill skip premiere league from now on since ESPN+ will have over enough content plus having CBS All access ill have the tournaments aswell.

I suppose the question needs to be asked about commercials. I’m presuming commercial free does NOT refer to live programming, and spending a premium if getting CBS All Access just for the Champions League makes little sense.

Correct if all you want is the Champions and Europa league matches then dont get commercial free. However for my family we will because there are a number of shows we will watch.

Thanks. All in all, $60 for all of Europa and Champions League isn’t a bad deal. It is frustrating to lose a good deal of access to it though, if you don’t have CBS’s streaming service. Back in the Fox days, you could get everything or you could watch a decent amount on FS1 or FS2 live or delayed. So the overall price for the premium is attractive, but there is virtually nothing provided to the typical subscriber, especially seeing how CBS Sports Network feels less accessible than FS2.

So I understand that the prematch analysis and postmatch analysis of Champions League games (with the exclusive to CBS commentators and analysts Peter Drury and Clive Tyldesley, featuring Roberto Martinez, Jamie Carragher, Peter Schmeichel, Ruud Gullit, Peter Drury, Alex Scott, Micah Richards and presenter Kate Abdo) are all exclusive to CBS All Access.
Will there be any prematch and postmatch show content of note that WON’T be on CBS All Access? (the shows immediately preceding and following the game itself).
Would it be safe to say that we DON’T need CBS Sports Network at all if we already have CBS All Access? Massive Champions League fan here.
Just want to be sure I have all my bases covered as far as Champions League content goes. Big sports fan here, and the UEFA Champions League is (by far) my favorite sports competition of them all. (Yes, more so than the World Cup). That tells you all you need to know about my love for Europe’s prestigious premier club competition)..

It’s safe to say that you won’t need CBS Sports Network if you have CBS All Access. You won’t be missing anything.
Pre-match and post-match coverage will be available on CBS All Access, so that’s the destination to go to for the complete coverage.
