Roku has made the wise decision to add the Peacock TV app to its channel store, to help bring Premier League matches into more homes in the United States.
For the 2020/21 Premier League season, Peacock TV is exclusively streaming 175 matches which include many of the biggest games from the top-flight English soccer league. Peacock also includes the Premier League TV channel and more than 13,000 hours of current, classic, and original movies and shows, as well as live and on-demand content across news, sports, reality, late-night, and Spanish-language.

I don’t think Roku really cared much able Premier League on Peacock. What caused Roku to backdown and carry Peacock was NBC Universal telling Roku that if they didn’t carry Peacock then they would pull the 46 NBC Universal channels from Roku. That would have really hurt.

We still don’t know what the actual agreement was though. Both sides likely compromised.
Peacock having their Roku app ready to go two days after coming to an agreement with Roku shows that they knew all along they were going to deliver their content to Roku’s 43M registered users. We’ll probably see something similar for FireTV devices soon.

Hi Chris, so I take it your paying for the premium or you had way better luck than me? I did try to link the accounts many times and received messages that said my account did not include the premium for free. It’s complicated and inconvenient for the purposes of getting a flex I think!

I’m not paying anything for Peacock Premium. Maybe Comcast’s policy has changed? But the fine print says “Peacock Premium is included for no additional cost for all Xfinity Flex customers and Xfinity X1 and video customers who have a subscription to Xfinity Internet or Digital Starter TV, or equivalent, or above”

So maybe receive the flex, and with that Roku should be a go? Once you received the flex, what did you do to then have the access on the Roku? A bit confusing on Comcast part when it shouldn’t be.

When you get the Flex, and go through the setup process, you can access Peacock directly through there. For Roku, I followed the 3 steps outlined in https://www.peacocktv.com/xfinity and then was able to use that Peacock login to get into the Peacock app on Roku.

Hello Chris, I was thinking to myself let me try something else (before reading your reply). I went ahead and logged into my xfinity account in the web. Then went straight to peacock and logged in. Then went link xfinity account, and this time it succeeded. I assume it’s because since I ordered the flex today and it shows in my account, then officially now I qualify for free premium. I have logged into the roku app and all is available now. Thank you for your replies as well, I appreciate all you and the team do on the site.

Awesome. Glad to hear that did the trick. Maybe that’s the secret is that Comcast Xfinity customers have to order the Flex before they can successfully link the accounts will work.

I can confirm after being on chat with Peacock, that the only way as an xfinity customer you have access to the premium version for free is with ordering the x1 or flex box from comcast. On Roku, you get the free version, but not the premium version you would get with a flex. I went back and forth and they said they would forward this suggestion of using your box or device of choosing to access the premium version for free but no dice. It’s inconvenient, I understand my side and theirs, so it is what it is. Right now I see the premier league channel (no guide) and they are about to show the Everton game. This is on Roku, I just wanted to share my experience.

Hello Chris, that is what I kept saying to them. I got a response saying that now only comcast video customers received premium for free. So I said then they changed it? They gave me a $10 discount on my next bill for the inconvenience. But even when I’m logged into my account it offers me the premium if I order the flex that they are pushing. It’s very inconvenient and feels you will get a different response each time you speak to them. I will call and try again.

No dice: either you upgrade to cable or pay the $4.99 to use a Roku. I spoke to 3 people in three departments. I went ahead and asked them to send me the flex box. Inconvenience for sure but they are pushing using their hardware. No cost to me so I will go ahead and try it out. I’m pretty sure this will not replace my Roku.

I guess “weeks” became days after this weekend’s disaster in which almost no one could watch Chelsea v Liverpool on their big screen.
Michal, I too searched for a Peacock app from my roku and it was NOT available.
However, if you find Roku’s tweet from this morning, they include a link you can click and then you can add the channel (via logging in on a computer or perhaps a mobile device).
To ensure, however, that the user experience remains as awful as possible, NBC/peacock make you type into your roku device your peacock email and password (vs. offering a peacocktv.com/activate screen like every other provider does)!
and then it simply won’t recognize my (correct) email address or password
NBC is rushing rushing rushing and their UE has been beyond horrendous, for PAYING customers!

FYI, I got in to Peacock on my Roku on try 5 of copy/pasting password from Dashlane via my phone remote up to roku. Typing long passwords with arrow movement would be crazy painful.

David and others, if you use the Roku remote control via the Roku app on your iPhone or Android device, you can type in your username and password – which is must faster and easier than trying to do it with the slow and clunky Roku remote control.

It’s very unlikely that NBC will make the viewing numbers available for Premier League matches on Peacock, just like ESPN doesn’t release viewing numbers for games on ESPN+.

Great news! I won’t have to watch matches on my computer anymore.
Now we need NBC Sports to offer the same EPL programming it offered on Sports Gold. I am very disappointed that programs like the Preview Show, Review Show, Men in Blazers, daily EPL show on Sky are no longer available. The user interface is also a step down from Gold.

Men in Blazers is available on demand in Peacock…and has been mentioned here many times all the other Premier League Productions and Sky stuff that was previously on Gold is still on Peacock, It just scrolls on that 24/7 Premier League channel with no published guide or schedule. It’s not available on demand, which is a terrible decision by Comcast/NBC. I wasn’t a fan of the Gold UI on the Apple TV, the Peacock UI seems equally frustrating and tedious.
I suspect Comcast got feedback from their Gold subscribers that we didn’t really care about the shoulder programming and hence they’ve saved money in this first iteration of Peacock by just throwing it all on the channel.
