Peacock FAQ for Premier League fans

Peacock FAQ for Premier League fans

We promised you a Peacock FAQ for Premier League fans, and here it is.

Peacock is the biggest development for fans of Premier League clubs since the debut of NBC Sports Gold’s Premier League Pass in 2017.

For the 2020/21 season, NBC Sports Gold is no longer streaming games. And instead of a season-long subscription like NBC Sports Gold offered in the past, you can subscribe on a month-by-month basis to Peacock Premium.

Perhaps the biggest change is that Peacock comes with more than 20,000 hours of content from movies and shows to news and other programming. More on that later!

Let’s dive into the answers to your most important questions.

Peacock FAQ for Premier League fans

Q: What is Peacock?

A: Peacock is a brand-new streaming service from NBC Universal that features original programming such as movies and shows as well as exclusive content including, most importantly of all, live coverage of the Premier League.

Q: Tell me about live Premier League games on Peacock Premium.

A: Peacock will have 175 exclusive matches available to soccer fans during the 2020/21 season, which will be available live in the Browse section of the Peacock apps and on PeacockTV.com throughout the season.

That means that all of the 20 clubs will be featured on Peacock Premium throughout the season, some more than others. In the past, typically the bigger Premier League clubs were exclusively on NBC Sports Gold a minimum of three times per season. But with Peacock being the number one priority for NBC Universal, it’s quite possible that more major games in the Premier League will be exclusively available on Peacock Premium than ever before.

For this season, 205 of the games will be televised live on NBCSN and NBC channels. Those games will not be available live to Peacock Premium subscribers. But you can watch them live and on-demand via other streaming services such as fuboTV, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and Sling Blue, as well as your local cable and satellite providers including Comcast Xfinity, Verizon Fios, DISH Network and DirecTV.

Q: What replays of games will be available to Peacock Premium subscribers?

A: Replays of all 380 games for the 2020/21 season will be available to Peacock Premium subscribers. Matches will be available on replay after 9PM ET on the matchday and then for 30 days after they air.

Note that some matches that stream live on Peacock Premium may be available on-demand earlier than 9PM ET, but all matches will be available after 9PM ET.

Q: The free Peacock tier will not include replays of Premier League games, correct?

A: That’s correct.

Q: So Peacock Free won’t have any Premier League programming?

A: While Peacock Free won’t have coverage of the Premier League, Peacock Free will include highlights of Premier League games. These will appear under the Trending and Browse sections.

Q: For viewers who join Premier League games in progress on Peacock Premium, will they automatically be able to choose between watching the game from the start or watching it live?

A: Currently, you will only be able to join games in progress.

Q: For live games on Peacock Premium, are player controls available to rewind or pause or fast-forward?

A: Player controls with that functionality are on the product roadmap, but will not be available at launch of the 2020/21 season.

Q: Will the ‘Goal Rush’ program be available live via Peacock Premium during the season?

A: Yes, the Premier League’s ‘Goal Rush’ program will be available via Peacock Premium. Plus, there’ll be a ton of other Premier League shoulder programming.

Q: Will the shows that used to appear on NBC Sports Gold be available on Peacock Premium? Shows such as the classic games, Premier League News and other programming from Premier League Productions.

A: Yes, all content presented on NBC Sports Gold’s Premier League Pass will shift exclusively to Peacock Premium with the start of the 2020-21 Premier League season.

Q: Will English-language broadcasts of Chivas de Guadalajara games be available live throughout the season on Peacock Premium?

A: There are no plans for this at this time.

Q: Are there any plans for Peacock Premium to allow side-by-side screens (i.e. split-screen or a mosaic) so a user can watch two games at once?

A: While Peacock Premium doesn’t include a side-by-side screen or a “mosaic” feature, it does allow you to have three concurrent streams, so you could have multiple screens open at once.

Q: What options are there for a viewer to ‘cast’ or ‘Airplay’ a game on Peacock Premium to their home TV?

A: Peacock is widely available across Apple devices including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD; Google platforms and devices including Android, Android TV devices, Roku, Chromecast and Chromecast built-in devices; Microsoft’s Xbox One family of devices, including Xbox One S and Xbox One X; and VIZIO SmartCast TVs and LG Smart TVs; as well as Sony PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.

Comcast’s eligible Xfinity X1 and Flex customers, as well as eligible Cox Contour customers, enjoy Peacock Premium included with their service at no additional cost.

Q: Is Peacock available on Amazon Fire TV and Roku? If not, are there any workarounds?

A: Peacock TV is now available on Roku.

As of publication time, a deal hasn’t been reached between Peacock and Amazon Fire TV. But you can access Peacock directly via PeacockTV.com on your browser on your phone or computer. Plus, you can cast programs from your phone/computer to your TV. If you’re a Comcast Xfinity customer, you can find the Peacock app on the screen after you turn on your cable box.

There are workarounds available to get Peacock TV working on Amazon Fire TV Stick.

Q: Can subscribers use a HDMI cable to watch a game on their big screen?

A: Yes, that feature now works!

Q: Can we expect to be able to watch Peacock Premium on an external monitor for the 2020/21 Premier League season? Previously, the site prevents this from happening (for example, for people working during the games and wanting to watch a game on their external monitor while working on their main desktop/laptop device).

A: The previous issue with this functionality has been resolved, so you’re now able to watch games on an external monitor.

Q: How much is Peacock?

A: There are three pricing levels. The basic Peacock is free, but as we mentioned above, it won’t include Premier League matches. The Peacock package you’ll want for Premier League coverage is Peacock Premium, which is $4.99 per month (if you’re a Comcast Xfinity customer, it’s free).

There is a third tier, which is Peacock Premium Plus, which is $9.99 per month, includes the Premier League games like in Peacock Premium but the big difference is that it doesn’t include ads. (Comcast Xfinity customers can get it for $4.99/month).

Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus are available to residents of the United States.

Q: Is there an annual plan available so you can save more money?

A: Peacock Premium is $49.99 annually.

Q: Do I need a cable or satellite subscription to access Peacock?

A: No. Peacock is free for everyone in the United States.

See above for pricing details for Peacock Premium.

Q: Will any of the games stream in 4K on Peacock Premium?

A: Not at this time.

Q: What resolution are the games streamed in?

A: According to a Peacock spokesperson, the games are streamed in 1080p.

“The source content comes in as 1080p and we package into multiple bitrates for streaming. If a user has good bandwidth for IP streaming then they will retain a high frame size of 1920×1080,” explained the spokesperson. “If their Internet connection fluctuates then they will drop down to a lower frame size and bitrate, but then bump back up to 1080p once their Internet connection improves.”

Q: Where can I find the schedule of Premier League games on Peacock and television?

A: The most reliable source and the one that’s updated the soonest (often before news is made official) is our Premier League TV schedule at World Soccer Talk.

We researched and wrote this Peacock FAQ for Premier League fans to make it as easy as possible for you to find out how to watch games.

The 2020/21 Premier League season began Saturday, September 12, 2020.

Q: Streaming is getting so expensive. What recommendation do you have to cut costs?

A: Cable and satellite subscriptions are increasing in cost, and you’re typically locked in to an annual contract. At the same time, you’re paying for a lot of channels you don’t watch.

With streaming, you pay for what you want and you can cancel whenever you like. While some of the costs are increasing for select streaming services, our recommendation is to check out the Soccer Mega Pack which includes the Premier League, MLS, LaLiga and Champions League for under $25 per month. Depending on which clubs you support, that may be an ideal fit for you. It’s certainly the most cost-effective option.

Q: What programming is available other than soccer?

A: While we all love soccer, Peacock’s other programming will certainly interest a lot of readers. There are too many list here, but some of the shows/movies you may enjoy include Downton Abbey, Beetlejuice, Hitmen (from Sky TV), The Capture, Swedish Dicks, 30 Rock, Saturday Night Live, Bourne Identity, Rush Hour, Brave New World, Friday Night Lights, America’s Got Talent, and more.

Q: What if I have a question that isn’t answered above in the Peacock FAQ for Premier League fans?

A: As long as it isn’t a question about how many frames per second the video quality is (we’re awaiting an answer from NBC Sports), fire away in the comments section below and we’ll do our best to answer your questions.

This question may have been answered above. TLDR. When I go to view an EPL replay, will Peacock give the option to hide the final score? The NHL site does this and it is a no brainer.

let’s face it ….. streaming sucks, it is just a way to squeeze a few more bucks every month out of us. the quality is poor as it is at the whims of everyone’s b/band connection, as well as being a poorer video product. two fingers to the networks, they already get way too much as we all experience by the ridiculous cable or cordcutters monthy tariffs. then there are all the ridiculous channels in the bundles that provide no entertainment.

@Glen. Fold a piece of paper big enough and place on the top right part of your tv screen or tablet so as to cover the area where other match scores are shown. Wa-la. Problem solved.

Can NBC please stop showing scores of other in progress matches on the screen? The whole point of having Peacock premium EPL coverage is to be able to watch multiple matches in their entireties (even if they’re airing at the same time). The benefit and experience is ruined when you’re watching one game and the ticker spoils another one.

If people want to look up scores, it’s easy for them to do so. Whatever benefit there is to showing in progress match scores during a live game is totally outweighed by the fact that it spoils match results for audience members who would otherwise watch the whole thing. This programming choice is actively drawing me away from watching the matches.

Does Peacock TV broadcast SkySports News?

Is there a feature to watch SkySports feed of matches or watch Sky produced programming (i.e. Monday Night Football with Neville and Carragher)?

    Thanks!

Peacock will stream the Transfer Deadline Day from Sky Sports, but other than that, they don’t stream any other Sky Sports content. They should, however, if they want to add more value to Peacock.

I can see why my friends have started watching premiership on Sky, the inability to watch a game when you want to is pathetic. If I miss the first 15 mins of a game and want to watch it from the start, That option is unavailable on peacock-

I tried reading all the FAQ’s and comments but failed to see this mentioned. Watching Premier League full screen with those top and bottom black bars is annoying. I can make them go by clicking the mouse curser but they always return. Since they provide a minimum of useful info, how can I be rid of them for the entire match?

Are games that are NOT shown live on Peacock be available for replay later that day after 9p?

Ex: Team A v Team B on NBCSN. Will that game be on peacock replay?

  16. dr

    December 13, 2020 at 5:36 pm

That leaves those of us without cable out of luck. This is a definite step down from the NBC Sports Gold package, and Peacock before the secret change. (And I see that after I emailed them with the website link yesterday, they did indeed change that as well.) Makes their streaming of the Grinch movie a little ironic.

What are the options now — other than piracy — for someone in the US without cable to get all EPL replays on demand?

  17. dr

    December 13, 2020 at 4:24 am

Peacock customer service tells me that replays will no longer be available for games shown on NBCSN. So, the info in the above FAQ (“Replays of all 380 games for the 2020/21 season will be available to Peacock Premium subscribers”) needs to be corrected.

(On the website it still says all 380 replays: https://www.peacocktv.com/help/article/can-i-watch-the-upcoming-season-of-premier-league-on-peacock-premium. I’ve pointed this out to them, so I suspect it will be removed shortly.)

    • Christopher Harris

      December 13, 2020 at 9:39 am

Now that Peacock has removed replays of games that first air on NBCSN or NBC, the only place to watch those replays is via https://www.nbcsports.com/live which requires authentication through your cable/satellite/streaming provider to show that you also subscribe to NBCSN/NBC.

  18. Séadna

    December 13, 2020 at 1:37 am

Peacock are no longer putting up replays of any games that didn’t originally air on Peacock. Confirmed by a live chat rep and by their Peacock Customer Care twitter in replies to a few different tweets. Ridiculous to make a change like that mid season and with zero notice or explanation, especially after it was a big part of their advertisement pre-season. Peacock as a service in general has been awful. Consistently have issues with their live stream quality also.

    December 12, 2020 at 11:15 pm

Yesterday the Leeds-West Ham replay was never posted. Today the Manchester Derby isn’t there. I thought they were going to make all replays, not just selected ones, available. Did I misunderstand?

  20. Chris M.

    December 7, 2020 at 7:20 pm

Thanks so much for the quick response. It did bring the game up and it gave me the option to resume watching but when I selected resume it said coverage had concluded thanks for watching. Maybe it’s because I am using a fire stick. I’ll try on my iPad or laptop. Thanks again for the help.

  21. Chris M.

    December 7, 2020 at 6:38 pm

I can’t seem to watch a game on Peacock twice. For example, if I start watching the replay of a game and fall asleep and the game ends while I am sleeping I can’t go back and start watching the game from where I left off. It is says the coverage of this game has completed. Are you only able to watch a replay of a game one time?

    • Christopher Harris

      December 7, 2020 at 7:08 pm

That’s the first time I’ve heard of that occurrence.

I just tested it. After you finish watching a replay, it removes it from your ‘Browse’ section. But you can watch it again by typing in the name of the teams into the search bar, and then click on the game you want to watch under the Results section.

    December 6, 2020 at 3:59 pm

so after reading all the comments, do I understand correctly that matches shown on NBCSN (which I get with my channel package) will be available “on demand” on Peacock Plus?

      Correct

It’s ruining my premier league life. I don’t even care about the 5 bucks, the complete lack of standard pause/rewind etc. It’s the flickery ball that’s killing me. I can watch a game streamed on NBC Sports on YouTubeTV and it looks great, Peacock’s 30fps flicker fest is a nightmare. It’s like we went back to 2004 or something. They have no business double charging people AND Massively downgrading the quality of most of the games.

  24. Rye Brook

    November 17, 2020 at 12:05 pm

As I mentioned, my double billing issue was sorted out by Peacock thanks to WST’s Chris getting us the contact info, which at the time was nowhere to be found, or, like the chat, did not work.

The next weird thing was, when I recently went on Peacock, buffering occurred. Remember buffering? I refreshed but up pops a notification from Chrome browser. I rarely use Chrome but it can access Peacock. Firefox ad-blocker denies some of P’s dodgy interacting features — and for good reason it seems. The Chrome notification sternly warned that my laptop was being attacked by (viruses, malware?) trying to gain access via….. altogether now….. “Peacock”! I bailed pronto.

FYI – Peacock is running a 50% off promo for new subscribers to Premium service. $25 for the year. Use coupon code TODAY50. Valid until Nov 15th.

  28. Bernie Jones

    November 6, 2020 at 3:11 pm

Does Peacock intend to take over our entire sports watching abilities? Premier league Rugby in particular. It seems that the handwriting is on the wall for another inconvenient and expensive
sports broadcasting process that fails to serve the basic controls that consumers need. The people setting this up need to be clear on programming well in advance (like NBCSN). It seems to date
that they do not care what gyrations we need to go through for the privilege (as they see it) of
watching what and when they deign to stream.
Advertisers : Demand a better output or you’ll not get the viewership you are paying for

  29. Michael Chaput

    November 1, 2020 at 9:03 am

Peaccock premier league soccer games are too often not shown as scheduled and with no information as to when they will be shown. NBC’s efforts to cater to soccer fans is a disaster. This offer should not have been made until your network is technically capable of delivering your promise. My choice to enroll in Peacock Premium was a bad one. Where in the world are your technical and programming people coming from? Bad marks all around.

  30. Seamous O'Reason

    October 24, 2020 at 6:40 pm

Not happy that I have to do this and that etc. etc. etc. if I want to watch the BPL. Pay here, pay there, pay everywhere. I’m already paying a fortune for a cable/NBCSNHD package that allowed me to watch real football. Now, today, NBCSN is showing precisely one (1) match — of inferior clubs.

Maybe there just are too many super excited NASCAR viewers salivating at the prospect of watching cars make left turns again and again for hours and hours.

Football had a chance for success in the U.S. and now, if not outright doomed, surely there will be less viewership and less of a chance to gain new fans.

Hope to see viewership numbers at some point. This isn’t really the place to let those in control (NBC Universal) know how we feel, at least anyone like myself who won’t be watching matches like I used to, but rather I’ll be going to NBC-related sites for that and suggest others do so also.

Thanks for the helpful info in any regard.

Why is there no half time coverage on peacock!? A paid service that then sticks a banner up for 15 mins saying coverage will resume shortly is terrible….

    • Christopher Harris

i was told Goal Rush and Premier League Productions would be on Peacock and I haven’t found anything in weeks.

    • Christopher Harris

      October 6, 2020 at 2:25 pm

Nico, Goal Rush is only on when there are several games happening at the same time. Thus far this season, all of the kickoff times have been staggered so very few games overlap.

Normally Goal Rush is on at 10AM ET on Saturdays.

Premier League TV (i.e Premier League Productions) is under the ‘Channels’ section.

I’m a peacock premium subscriber, I wasn’t able to watch the Liverpool v Chelsea game live, but thought ok I can watch it after 9pm, it’s now October 5th, 2 weeks later and it’s still not available, unless I am doing something wrong 😑 I go to peacock premium/sports scroll until I find replays, look for Liverpool v Chelsea but when I click on it there’s only a ‘more info’ bar and not a ‘watch options’ bar? Not so with the Liverpool v Leeds game which I can replay.
Any ideas? Am I looking in the wrong place, doing something wrong? So frustrating!

  35. Jasinho

    October 5, 2020 at 5:35 pm

I’ll give Peacock one plus today as they had the Sky Sports feed of the Transfer Deadline Day special. The feed started at 8am US eastern time so as someone that is off on Mondays, I’ve tuned in and had it as a background stream the whole time, just glancing in whenever I think the big news is happening and I absolutely adored it. It was unfortunate it had to get a new stream after four hours but well done nonetheless. This would be the closest ill ever get to a 24/7 Sky Sports News feed stateside and I’ll cherish this day even though the transfers are relatively benign.

Now if NBC were to renew the Premier League rights, I would recommend a 24/7 Sky Sports News feed and the Club TV channels to join Peacock and I’ll become a Peacock no-ad annual subscriber that day.

The replays for Spurs-MU and Liverpool-AV never showed up for me yesterday, I had to look elsewhere for the games. (They’re there this morning, too late.) I thought all replays were going to be available on the day of play by 9pm EST?

    • TK

      October 5, 2020 at 3:51 pm

They were on NBC or NBCSN, so I think they can’t be posted until after 9. If it’s on Peacock they post it like 30 minutes or whatever after it’s done airing.

      • dr

        October 5, 2020 at 9:28 pm

They weren’t there at midnight EST. (I’m in Hawaii, looked around 6pm my time. The reason I look for replays is that the actual play time is middle of the night for me.) Fortunately I also know where to find pirated versions, but I prefer to get it legally.

First off! Thanks Christopher for all your answers!

I’ll be the ugly ducking and say I’m enjoying peacock more then nbcgold… But I do have two questions… 1.) Why is their a premier league channel on peacock that never has anything playing? 2.) Christopher! Why isn’t NBCSN available through Peacock, they have every other NBC channel available on their! Is it coming?

  38. Leroy

I’m a customer of the peacock streaming service. I also use an iPhone. However, I cannot AirPlay the EPL games on my tv. I will have to cancel my subscription if this isn’t corrected. I had no problem with msnbc gold.

    • Christopher Harris

NBC Sports hasn’t announced how many games will air on Peacock per team. We just know it’ll be a grand total of 175 this 20/21 season.

Whats scumbags NBC is, just leave the games on nbc and nbcsn…..total corporate greed….All these companies dipping into streaming, total scum

    • John G.

      October 2, 2020 at 1:49 pm

Did you cancel cable during the length of NBC Universal’s contract? Lots of people did, and they’re the reason streaming for a fee was added and began to cover more and more games. If NBCSN’s revenue had held up, they wouldn’t have done it.

The next contract will cost a lot more for people to watch and people will complain about that instead.

      • Jesus

        October 2, 2020 at 3:19 pm

You don’t have to have cable to get NBCSN. Lots of streaming services, like Fubo TV, carry NBCSN. I cancelled cable but still get NBCSN with my streaming service.

  41. Prem Man

    September 21, 2020 at 5:47 pm

So far, highly unimpressed. More premium content seems to have moved to Peacock – eg Liverpool v Chelsea this weekend and Man Utd v Crystal Palace – games that would previously have been shown on network TV last season.
NBC’s failure to do a deal with Roku is also a black mark. Watching on Apple TV is problematic given Apple TV’s poor functionality (difficult or impossible to rewind and forward using the Apple remote).
NBC started their coverge so well but have decided to copy Fox’s strategy to start well and then see how much worse they can get before the contract end. I suspect that they’re trying to plum the depths that TNT swum in last season with their dreadful coverage of the UEFA club competitions. Worrying that they have also brought over Tim Howard from what was surely the worst set of non-pundits I’ve seen.

That’s paranoia better espoused on Twitter. Cable cutters bit heavily into the revenue streams of both TBS and NBC Universal and they had to add streaming to get back to where they were at the beginning of the contract when far more people had cable with NBCSN on it than do now. No matter who gets the next contract, it will not be full of live games on free-to-watch television…. it’ll probably look closer to what Sky Sports charges in the UK… all the market can bear… and you won’t be happy with it. What a shame.

Absolutely ridiculous and despicable that no tv coverage for premier league games, only a few. Already paying a lot for cable, including nbcsports, and that’s not enough for these greedy executives, but they want more from us to pay for games which are only streamed. What a joke. Idiots.

I signed up for $4.99 a month package to watch premier league games, which currently does not seem to be broadcasting on NBCSN or NBC. As it turned i am unable to cast live streams or replays of the games to Chromecast from an iPad Pro.
Will this feature become available, am I doing something wrong or will I be stuck watching the games on a tables or phone screen.
If so I will have to cancel the subscription.

Here’s how to use AirPlay on your iPad Pro to stream video to a TV set

      https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204289

Or, here’s how to use Airplay on your iPad Pro to stream to Chromecast:

      https://www.airbeam.tv/mirror-iphone-ipad-screen/chromecast/

      • Vincent

        September 20, 2020 at 11:02 am

This workaround does not work. The screen mirrors and all that is shown is the caption for the video/stream, and of course, the the notice to pay to upgrade to the ‘mirror chromecast pro’ app.
I do not undersrand why I have to install and pay for another app for this feature.
In the free peacock app the chromecast icon is visible on videos/TV shows etc.., for casting. It eventually goes out of sync, but at least the option is there.

Where are the Saturday/Sunday Premier League Mornings Show. I watch a Premier league game as a replay on Peacock and it begins just before the kick off with no pre game show, no team line ups – nothing. This is just crazy. I pay for NBCSports via mu Comcast subscription and I am missing programming because of this switch of games to streaming on Peacock

    • Christopher Harris

      September 19, 2020 at 4:07 pm

Pre-game show starts usually 30 to 60 minutes before a game, so you’ll need to catch it live to see it on Peacock.

  47. Cristian

    September 19, 2020 at 2:17 pm

So… I have to pay for cable and now Peacock to be able to watch a decent amount of EPL games is what you’re saying… hmm and you expect me to jump from interface to interface to watch said games… I’m sorry but, who at NBC thought this was a good move? I’m not paying $100+ on cable (to catch UCL + La Liga) plus $45 for ESPN+ (To catch seria A) and now “Peacock” to watch PART of EPL… guess no EPL the coming seasons for me. You guys truly, truly drop the ball there. I mean you do understand the MOST internet providers are offered by… CABLE COMPANIES… like cutting the cord isn’t really cutting the cord, it’s just breaking that $100 dollars of cable into $5 for Peacock, $10 on ESPN+, $10 on Disney+, $10 on Netflix, $14 on Hulu, and so on… it’s a real shame you guys jumped onto the streaming wagon without fully doing proper market research to offer an even better product after learning from your competitors… shame on you NBC.

I can not believe there’s no pause or rewind on live streams, something so basic and common for live sports I can’t remember how long it’s been just, always there. This seriously is a deal breaker for me, it’s just ridiculous. So now I HAVE to watch Premier League Morning exactly when it’s on while it’s on? I can’t replay a goal? Plus ads. Back to ESPN+.

    • David K.

      September 19, 2020 at 8:13 am

I completely agree. With the move from live tv to streaming, we can no longer use a DVR to catch up on action later. Peacock has to include a rewind feature on their streams and allow games to be viewable on demand soon after they are done. I know Chris has said the delay to have games available on demand until 9 pm is a Premier League rule, but that is something NBC should have negotiated before launching sports on Peacock. This mess really sours the Premier League experience for me.

      • Nosferatu

        September 19, 2020 at 9:41 pm

The games that are on Peacock are available soon after they end for replay, fortunately. Everton-West Brom was there when I checked a couple hours after it finished.

That said, they really need to introduce live DVR functionality with the option of starting a game from the beginning. It’s 2020 and we expect more, particularly when we’re paying for these things. And get more stuff up for replay, like pre-game shows and all the shoulder programming. It’s really not asking for the moon here.

    • JP

      September 19, 2020 at 2:46 pm

My morning/afternoon viewing today would have been impossible without rewind/forward functionality.
A bit after 9:30 and decided to watch a little Bundesliga before the Villarreal match at 10. Decided on Koln v Hoffenheim and already missed the 1st goal (rewind then back to live). Stayed with it most of the half and then to Villarreal.
HT of Villarreal I decide to check in on Eredivisie and honestly got hooked on this match (AZ Alkmaar v PEC Zwolle) and stuck with it most of the half then back to Villarreal at HT.
Missed an Eibar goal so rewind thanks to DVR and back to live. Checking both the Eredivisie match and this but check my phone for other scores and see Koln tied the match so back to Bundesliga to catch the end. While rewinding to see the equalizer I get back to live just in time for Hoffenheims go ahead in stoppage time.
During this missed another goal for Villarreal, you know the drill.
Back to Eredivisie until the end of that match which was the most exciting of the day so far.
Fiorentina v Torino at noon then over to Dortmund at the half and see Reyna’s 1st career league goal live.
Back to Fiorentina at HT of Dortmund and stuck with it to the end…
Now time for Roma and to monitor Valencia at HT etc and call it a day!

  53. Derek Hughes

    September 18, 2020 at 1:59 am

Here’s how my premier league weekend used to pan out. Saturday, 3 or 4 games transmitted live on NBC and NBC sports and recorded on my VCR. Get up, have breakfast, look at what’s on my VCR, at least 1 maybe 2 games recorded with maybe 1 underway. Decide what I want to watch and away we go. Similar situation on Sunday. Now…1 game only which I can record. All others live only on the Peacock subscription channel which I can watch on a PC, Phone or tablet OR i can wait until replays appear. The difference in my ability to watch and enjoy the best league in the world is staggering.

  55. Leo

    September 13, 2020 at 9:59 am

I just signed up for Premium. But, from what I see/read so far, I will only have two opportunities to watch a game, either (a) watch a game LIVE at the broadcast time (whenever that is) or (b) watch the replay some time during the next 30 days.
My question are simple: Will I be able to pull up the full replay whenever I want to during those 30 days? If so, how do I do it?

    • Christopher Harris

      September 13, 2020 at 10:59 am

Leo, replays of games are supposed to be available on Peacock Premium from 9PM ET each matchday – and available for up to 30 days.

After you sign up for Peacock, you should be able to find the replays under the ‘Sports’ tab.

  56. jstrummer

    September 13, 2020 at 7:58 am

There is now a ‘premier league replay’ section under sports section, you just have to be careful as there’s a highlight spoiler section above it.

    • Nosferatu

      September 13, 2020 at 9:34 pm

Takes some real cluelessness to put them in this order instead of the other way around!

I mean, there were similar problems in the past when using the NBC Sports app, but at least you could navigate to the replays section in the second before any spoilers popped up on the screen. It’s the little things like this, though, that don’t exactly inspire confidence in a service–and likely will lose them subscribers going forward.

P.S. Have you ever heard the Strummer song “Tony Adams”? One legend singing about another right there!

  58. Nosferatu

    September 13, 2020 at 2:56 am

Kind of interesting to see how this is all playing out on the first weekend. I certainly agree with others who say the schedule of games is going to be kind of manic, jumping all over the place between NBCSN, NBC, and Peacock sort of haphazardly.

I also am disappointed that the user interface is so poor for this part of Peacock. I understand how they’re keeping it pretty simple with the different sections, but even compared to CBS All Access it’s a mess. They need a dedicated area where you can go straight to replays of games without having the highlights come up for you along the way–not just highlights, but headlines and stories that reveal the outcome of the game you’re trying to watch. This is kind of basic stuff, and it worries me that this is still such a problem, no better than what we saw when Peacock debuted and we had those games on in July.

I’m a little surprised, too (maybe I shouldn’t be) that they seem to now not be putting up replays on the NBC Sports app of the games that were televised on NBCSN or NBC. I have Peacock, so it doesn’t matter to me, but it feels kind of messed up for people who are paying their cable/satellite providers for those networks. You shouldn’t have to pay for Peacock to watch replays of games you’ve effectively already paid to watch. And it really just adds another layer to the confusing nature of this whole setup they’ve created.

  59. Jack

    September 13, 2020 at 12:42 am

What manipulative price gouging. Pissing around jumping between streaming and cable, no idea which is going to be on which. No wonder people just stream illegally.

NBC gold showed 4 low key games a season, Peacock‘s showing Sunday’s prime match whilst NBCSN shows women football literally no-one will watch. Disgraceful. This in addition to champions league being manipulated so English language is on $$ CBCSports whereas Spanish language on regular cable. Sooner premier league sell the rights direct the better.

Uh, don’t tell anyone, but watching the West Ham-Newcastle replay (on the special $29.99 deal for the first year) there weren’t any ads so I could fast-forward though whatever I wanted. That was pretty nice.

Is there a number for the complaint department at Peacock. How hard is it to copy ESPN’s streaming service.? Peacock is terrible. Lost in the abyss of who cares other crap looking for the Crystal Palace – Southampton replay. You have a Premier League “channel”. But you can’t watch the live Peacock matches on this channel. You go to the Sports tab abyss to find the live match. Man…hope this gets better… FAST!

        September 12, 2020 at 11:35 pm

That’s all I see too (at 11PM ET); this is a great way to encourage piracy.

NBC Sports Gold had all the replay matches on a single, bookmarkable page so you could go there directly without seeing any scores, I hope Peacock does this eventually too, on top of living up to their promise of making replays available.

  65. Dim Ralph

    September 12, 2020 at 9:01 pm

So are all EPL matches today going to to be available for replay on Peacock Premium after 9pm or just the Peacock match (Roast Ham – Newcastle). If answered somewhere else sorry (hence DimRalph). If all matches aren’t replayed, screw peasuck premium because the rest of the content is suck city

    • Rich

They’re supposed to be available on Peacock.

“Replays of all 380 games for the 2020/21 season will be available to Peacock Premium subscribers. Matches will be available on replay after 9PM ET on the matchday and then for 30 days after they air.”

      • Derek Hughes

        September 27, 2020 at 4:03 pm

That is absolutely useless. You have taken away DVR functionality because of your move to Peacock. None of the Peacock platforms have or will have DVR like functionality. You have ruined exposure to the best league in the world.

I already see the replay of the Newcastle-West Ham match less than an hour after it ended. Looks like a good turnaround time on the Peacock exclusive matches. If they can just get the PL Productions shows on demand, I’ll be very satisfied with the Gold to Peacock transition.

The other positive with peacock is while it’s still 30 frames per second like it was on gold, they have improved the resolution over what gold had. Looks very similar in picture quality to CBS all access.

Hopefully they’ll address the on-demand issue in the coming weeks.

No rewind/pause, but we expected that. Clear stream though.

Most importantly – this game became uploaded as a replay (with full controls) quite fast after final whistle (way before the 9pm EST time for televised NBC games).
I hope they maintain this (as GOLD had done) because I don’t fancy getting up at 4am for my live Peacock game next Sunday, I’ll be able to watch the upload by mid morning.

Agreed! I. Getting so frustrated. Bought a large smart tv so that my Husband can watch the Premier league matches on it. It’s like trying to move heaven and earth to find a way for him to watch them without doling out more money every time. We subscribe to Peacock TV and now find out that we cannot watch it on our Samsung smart TV. Someone suggested using Airbeam tv to mirror it but of course you have to pay for that too! I wouldn’t be surprised if I download it, pay for it and then find out it does not work with my TV. Im not super tech savy either, which just adds to the frustration. One way to fight NBC’s not having over the air games on Sunday would be for the MLS to move some of their games to the afternoon. Then hopefully some of those boycotting NBC would watch the MLS instead!

Sorry, I see this topic I raised was already covered above with regards to ‘shoulder programming’. It is indeed disappointing that Peacock does not have this other programming already available just days before the season is to begin. No doubt the Premier League News shows are running and providing all the details on transfer window activity and the state of each team heading into the season. Thumbs down so far for Peacock in relation to Premier League coverage.

    • Tariq Mohsen

      September 11, 2020 at 2:29 pm

Indeed, mate. I hope all that hasn’t just been shoved into the bin. The Premier League shoulder programming on NBC used to be brilliant!

  76. Michael Fisher

    September 8, 2020 at 12:37 pm

In addition to the half hour daily Premier League news shows, there was plenty of Premier League analysis shows and also a one Premier League Review highlight show Of all the weekend matches. Is Peacock going to have all this content that NBC Gold Premium had?? All I hear about is the live matches being aired themselves. But NBC Gold provided so much more than just live matches and recorded matches to view for a time.

  77. Michael Fisher

    September 8, 2020 at 12:29 pm

What about the daily premier League news shows throughout the week prior to weekend matches? Is that content available on Peacock, like it was for NBC Gold subscribers?? I haven’t seen anything available on this on Peacock or Peacock Premium and the season is starting this weekend. I am sure the PL News shows are already going now. Please advise.

I’m worried about Peacock’s UI. Is it going to be spoiler-y? Games come on here in Hawaii at 130 am and 4am so unfortunately it looks like I’m going to be watching a few of these on delay.

  80. Don Freeman

    September 7, 2020 at 10:09 am

When does all this shoulder EPL coverage begin?
Once it kicks 🦵off where will it be able to be accessed from the peacock app? The interface is very confusing! I’ve been experimenting with it from the Tour de France in anticipation of this weekend’s EPL games. I must say it leaves lots to be desired! The tour program even in sports and featured on the sports landing page prominently only really opened with few minutes to spare as the race stage began. I remember the launch peacock day it was very rough!

So why subscribe to Peacock if NBC and NBCSN will have all the games?

    • Yespage

      September 6, 2020 at 10:23 pm

They won’t. Peacock will have the equivalent of what NBC Gold had last season. Mostly smaller teams and a small handful of midweek fixtures for the bigger clubs.

      • Christopher Harris

        September 7, 2020 at 6:59 am

Not true. Peacock will have many more big games than NBC Sports Gold did.

      • Derek Hughes

        September 27, 2020 at 3:59 pm

That is a lie. Peacock is now the primary vehicle for the Premier league where historically it has been NBC sports. Tomorrows Liverpool v Arsenal game is a perfect example.

  82. Dev

This is utter crap. No wonder people look for illegal streams when you can’t have one platform for all the premier league games. Why should I pay for 2 different services to watch one competition? Plus there are the European competitions and the cup competitions. Shameful and disgusting.

Exactly. And again for me so interesting to hear the support of the subs and staff and the natural chatter. Still enjoyed the on-pitch action just as much.

and yes for me it would be very interesting to see how loud ten thousand fans can be as opposed to 40 or 50,000. Don’t fabricate reality. Let’s just hear what the stadium actually sounds like with limited fans for an authentic experience. Imagine that!

Any idea if they’ll have the no added fake crowd noise option on the peacock app like they did with NBC sports gold app/online during June and July?

I really hate the fake crowd noise. For once we can hear the constant chatter and coaches instructions and players talking together for once, and they want to drown it out with what just turns into annoying white noise. Just embrace it’s a different experience and that your can hear more on pitch sounds for once.

Great to hear the benches cheer when their team scores, too. They really should get more enhanced game sounds once fans are back. Mics on referees and players would be awesome.

      September 4, 2020 at 7:03 pm

The Premier League plans to have fans back in the stadiums very soon after a successful test they did recently. Real crowd noise will be better than the artificial one!

      • nosferatu

        September 4, 2020 at 8:46 pm

Although interestingly, it seems like it might be “enhanced” real crowd noise, from a report I saw a few days ago (can’t recall the source, maybe here for all I know!). Basically the limited fans weren’t loud enough so they piped in noise at times over the top of them. That feels unnecessary, in my opinion. Just accept reality, you know?

this is very helpful. I had been wondering about the 4K question since the press release was unclear (it mentions something about Peacock streaming content in 4k). Bummer that they’re not planning to stream 4K

Will we be able to skip/fast-forward pregame/halftime ads with PL replays on Peacock Premium Plus?
How about stopping the match and coming back later – will we be able to just start where we left off without having to re-watch the pregame/halftime ads? (Like we had to on NBC Sports Gold last season)
    Thanks for the helpful info!

Will they have Spanish language audio feeds for the games on Peacock? Or any Spanish language EPL content?

    • Christopher Harris

      September 1, 2020 at 3:37 pm

As far as I know so far, the Spanish-language games will still be on Telemundo and Universo only.

      • Eddie

        September 1, 2020 at 4:36 pm

Maybe in the future of Telemundo and Universo. One day there might launch a sports network called Telemundo deportes network in the future. 24 7 sports network in Spanish. Just NBC sports of nbcsn(NBC sports network)

Thanks for the great, clear info.
As someone who subscribed to Gold for the last couple of years it’s no biggie. Roku would be handy but XBox works fine so that will do.

Now to work out what is the best way to get NBCSN (& USA) via Sling, Fubo etc. Fubo appears not to carry USA. Others don’t carry NFL Redzone. Such a minefield.

Wish Dish would hurry up and confirm if they are going to sort out their ‘dispute’ with NFL network. The local Fox Sports channels coming back after a year or 2 would be handy as well. It’s like they want people to go to streaming services. Probably all owned by the same people and they make a bigger profit on streaming.

Whatever. Enjoy the season everyone. Saints are gonna win the league!

    • Christopher Harris

SaintsFan, our sister website Compare Streaming shows who has USA Network available via streaming, which does include fuboTV, fyi.

Kudos to Southampton for exceptional kit designs this upcoming season!

      • SaintsFan

        September 1, 2020 at 2:09 pm

The 2nd kit looks better than the first one (they changed sponsors soon after it was released).
And I stand corrected – looks like Fubo does USA. I think the pixies stole it just now.
Shame it definitely doesn’t have TNT though. That is needed for some NBA playoff and NCAA games. For a streaming site that prides itself on coverage of sport that is a channel they need to get.
The soccer coverage is 2nd to none though. Though do I really care if I can watch the Iranian 2nd division play-offs though? I bet ESPN+ has the 3rd division ones as well! Crazy what you can watch nowadays….

        September 1, 2020 at 4:16 pm

        Nice site!

They should add NFL and NFL Red Zone to the list. It is a good resource nonetheless.

      • Ritchie

Youtube TV now has NFL Network & Redzone.
Plus NBCSN, USA, TNT, locals etc. – all the ones you need as a sports fan.
The lack of TNT on Fubo is probably the clincher for now. NBA playoffs are on there tonight.
Any of them show snooker, pool or darts? Shocking the lack of pool on any channel.

        • Christopher Harris

          September 3, 2020 at 9:10 pm

I love watching and playing snooker. Right now, the only place I can watch snooker on US TV is DAZN, which recently had the World Snooker championship games live. DAZN also has darts now and again. BBC America has been showing darts too at times in the past year.

          • SaintsFan

            September 3, 2020 at 11:18 pm

Will have to remember that for next year.
Not many proper full size 12′ tables in the USA. Do you ever get to play on one?
USA pool tables do have larger pockets and it is relatively easy to clear an open table – however it is also a lot easier for your opponent as well. Can’t ‘claim a pocket’ like you can in UK pool either.
Like I said – wish I could watch more USA 8 ball (or 9 ball) on TV. Sort of thing you’d expect to show up on ESPN+ with the 10 pin bowling and cornhole – but it doesn’t…

          • Will

            September 9, 2020 at 2:53 pm

To get it for free you need xfinity flex. This is a free streaming box similar to a fire stick or Roku. Once it is on your account you’ll be eligible to link your peacock acct and get premium at no charge. You can then watch it for free on any device.

You mention Comcast Xfinity having access for free. I don’t have Comcast Television but I do have Comcast internet. So does that mean Peacock Premium is absolve for free or do I still have to pay. Thanks .

    • Christopher Harris

      September 1, 2020 at 8:57 am

Hi Bobby, good question. I’m in the same boat as you (I have Comcast for Internet, but not for TV). But yes, you’ll be able to log into Peacock via their website and it should automatically see that you’re a Comcast customer, so you can watch for free.

      • Edward

        September 9, 2020 at 7:25 pm

if you are an XFinity user, then you can get a Flex device for your TV

    • Daniel

      September 8, 2020 at 6:22 pm

Unless they changed it, it’s only free if you have their flex box (which is free). So I ordered their Flex box and now I have free Peacock Premium. Mind you, you don’t have to use the Flex box, just have it on your account. I haven’t opened the box with the Flex box, and I’m able to watch Peacock Premium on my AppleTV and on my computer.

Is Peacock going to launch a virtual streaming channel (like the one Dan Patrick and Rich Eisen are on) for the Premier League? This section of the press release seems to indicate that it is: “Additionally, Peacock will feature Premier League news and other programming from Premier League Productions on its free, exclusive channel Premier League TV.”

    • Christopher Harris

      August 31, 2020 at 8:12 pm

A separate channel is a possibility.

When they mention other programming, they mean everything that used to be on NBC Sports Gold’s Premier League Pass which is a ton of shoulder programming and news shows and more from Premier League Productions.

  93. David

    August 31, 2020 at 1:39 am

So, for those of us on the West Coast, we have to get up on Saturday at the crack of dawn to watch Peacock as we can’t record the games. Or, we have to try and get through the day without seeing match scores and waiting until 6pm to be guaranteed a showing.

    What a stupid, ridiculous policy,

I suppose the only saving grace is that we won’t have the insufferable Arlo shouting at us with his incessant, non-stop, verbal diarrhea.

    • Yespage

      August 31, 2020 at 12:33 pm

I think that is the price of the cheaper cost to get the games without a linear channel. Peacock can be had for $60 a year? That is a remarkably cheap price for all of the games. The lack of live DVR and immediate On Demand goes with it.

      • Andrew

        September 20, 2020 at 12:04 am

It’s atrocious. I don’t care about paying $4 more a month, but the lack of basic functionality with this app so far is disappointing. There’s no reason if I’m 30 mins late to a game, I can’t watch it from the beginning at that point or even just a few hours later. This is 2020, we should be able to do it we’re going to be screwed from being about to DVR matches. Where’s the weekly premier league content that was on NBC Gold like Fan Zone, Premier League world, Premier League Review, etc. There was 4-5 shows a day for extra content but I can’t seem to find it. You guys dropped the ball with this.

    • Will

      September 3, 2020 at 7:38 pm

David, this is my concern as well. NBC Gold would upload the Gold games within 30 mins of them finishing – it was very efficient. Proper ‘On-demand’. I hope they carry over the same efficiency to Peacock. Chris’s article above mentions that they ‘might’ do this. Otherwise it’s 7am or 6pm!

  94. Yespage

    August 30, 2020 at 11:37 pm

“But with Peacock being the number one priority for NBC Universal, it’s quite possible that more major games in the Premier League will be exclusively available on Peacock Premium than ever before.”

    That seems baseless and overstated.

    • Christopher Harris

      August 31, 2020 at 6:50 am

Here’s an article that talks about Peacock being priority number one for NBC Universal:
      https://www.wsj.com/articles/nbcuniversal-ceo-jeff-shell-has-no-time-for-hollywood-egos-11592625714

If you mean the games themselves, I’ve heard that it’s very likely that at some time in the season that Peacock will have a special preview day like in July where all of the games are on Peacock. With NBC Sports Gold, NBC Sports never did that.

With more games this season on Peacock than NBC Sports Gold ever had, it’s very probable that the bigger clubs will be streaming exclusively more than last season, even if it’s a small increase of games.

      August 30, 2020 at 7:12 am

Correct. But there would be commercials at half time, for example.

        August 30, 2020 at 1:24 pm

Hi Chris – I asked this question before on a different thread. Do you know if Premier League games on Peacock will be produced by IMG/PL production like they were on NBC Sports Gold or will it be a NBCSN production like on TV. In other words we’ll be watching NBCSN on Peacock with commercials running on the screen and Arlo White still there. The question is why?

        • Christopher Harris

          August 30, 2020 at 1:40 pm

If you’re watching games via Peacock, they’re produced by IMG/Premier League Productions and will have the world-feed commentators. There may be very rare occasions where NBC’s commentators will do one or more of the games on Peacock, especially if it’s a ‘free Peacock preview’ weekend like they did in July 2020.

  97. Wally

    August 29, 2020 at 11:31 pm

You say some matches that replay on Peacock Premium could be available before 9pm. How much earlier than 9pm and by what criteria? Do they just put them up one at a time, so that it takes until 9pm to have them all up or is there another method at work. It will be nice to have midweek games where only one match is available on NBCSN available by prime time on demand.

    • Christopher Harris

      August 30, 2020 at 7:10 am

We won’t know the answers to those questions ahead of time.

  98. David the Yank

    August 29, 2020 at 10:22 pm

Just awful on nbcs part after all these years that they ask us to pay for the 175 games and then those games “may” be available to watch before 9 pm if you can’t watch live. How absurd in this day and age! Seriously, can they not do better? No fast forward and rewind? When mlb and espn+ have had those features for live games for years? It’s one thing if it’s a free add on service. Quite another when they ask $5 a month to watch a few lesser games.

    • J D P

      September 13, 2020 at 2:50 pm

Agreed. Basically they are forcing us to watch adverts on top of the subscription. Being able to pause and rewind, start from kick off, are basic features in this day and age. Terrible execution from NBC, time to blow the dust off the sling box and cancel my sports subscription.

Is there any plan to allow Samsung smart TVs to be able to play Peacock? It seems strange to me that if I have an LG smart TV I can watch Peacock on the TV but if I have a Samsung smart TV I cannot. Does it not concern NBC (Comcast) that there is a large disincentive for Samsung owners to subscribe to Peacock?

    • DiRT

      August 31, 2020 at 6:01 pm

That’s because those TVs use different operating systems. LG use WebOS and Samsung use Tizen. It’s like asking why you have an app on your Windows computer that’s not available on your iPad. They can’t just take it from one and stick it on the other – it has to be rebuilt from the ground up.

  101. Karlos

    August 29, 2020 at 8:11 pm

What a shame. Now I need a cable package for NBCSN plus Peacock subscription to watch PL! Ripoff! Before I just needed NBCSN for the bug games.

And by the way, now you need to pay CBC for Europa and Champions league and ESPN+ fir FA cup!

    • Yespage

      August 30, 2020 at 11:40 pm

This isn’t much different than last year, except now you can get the secondary games paying by month, without forking over a lump sum… and you get a bunch of other unrelated programming included. That they aren’t connected with Roku or Fire yet is definitely a problem as that requires more equipment to get games to the TV.

      • Chris Halligan

        August 31, 2020 at 6:19 pm

Yes page — On Firetv one can still sideload the Peacock app from a reputable alternate App Store – if I’m not forbidden from mentioning it ‘Aptoide TV’ is the one I would recommend.

      • Edward

        September 24, 2020 at 4:40 am

It is different. They dont have 50% of the content they used to have. There are no licensed sky shows that I personally watched every day and week. This was half the appeal and I am not willing to swap that for whatever reality tv bs is included with peacock. The pl “channel” is pointless when there’s no program schedule set and missing all the punditry really removes so much value. Seems like they reduced their licensing fees while charging the sam per more to create more profit without user pricing increasing. Not happy with this bs switch at all. Won’t be subscribing to any paid service.

How about games in 4K? Those that broadcast in 4K every week on Directv and Comcast

    • Christopher Harris

      August 29, 2020 at 9:22 pm

The FAQ references that games in 4K won’t be available via Peacock, but Comcast will continue to broadcast select games in 4K where available. Presumably DirecTV too.

  103. Chris G

    August 29, 2020 at 8:08 pm

How does Peacock Premium compare to what was NBC Sports Gold? Is it essentially the same where at least 4 or so matches from a club will only be available on Sports Gold (now Peacock Premium) and the rest on NBCSN? Or will there be less matches on NBCSN?

    • Christopher Harris

      August 29, 2020 at 9:17 pm

Hi Chris, it’ll be very similar to Gold except that Peacock has other programming available such as movies and shows. Other than that, there’ll be roughly 10% more games on Peacock Premium than what NBC Sports Gold’s Premier League Pass started out with in 2017, so yes there’ll be a slight decrease in the number of matches on NBCSN.
