Paramount+ to stream Argentine league through 2024

CBS Sports today announced the details of a multi-platform agreement for Paramount+, ViacomCBS’ subscription streaming service, to serve as the exclusive English-language home in the U.S. of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol, Copa de la Liga Profesional, and, beginning in 2022, the Supercopa Argentina.

Paramount+ will stream every club competition match live each season through 2024, featuring all Copa de la Liga Profesional and Liga Profesional de Fútbol matches, the Supercopa Argentina, and the match between the champions of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol and Copa de la Liga Profesional. Beginning Friday, March 26, Paramount+ will stream all 423 remaining matches in 2021.

While Paramount+ has the English-language rights, streaming service Fanatiz will continue to broadcast the games in Spanish-language.

“We’re thrilled to make Paramount+ the new home of Argentine soccer, a league with world-class players that boasts some of the most passionate fans in the world,” said Jeffrey Gerttula, Executive Vice President and General Manager, CBS Sports Digital. “With CBS Sports’ rapidly growing soccer portfolio, we look forward to delivering even more value with a wide array of domestic and international competitions on Paramount+.”

“Argentine Football Distribution’s goal is to boost the international distribution of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol (LPF) as well as to strengthen its international positioning. We celebrate to reach Argentine soccer fans through this agreement and to offer them for the first time ever, exclusive broadcasting in English language. Soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the US, and the LPF is one of the best in the world. This combination is perfectly suited to the wide and exclusive entertainment offering on Paramount+,” said Ignacio Galarza, President, Argentine Football Distribution.

Paramount+ coverage of the remaining 2021 Copa de la Liga Profesional season begins this weekend and is highlighted by crucial matchups of clubs atop the standings including Independiente vs. Boca Juniors and River Plate vs. Racing Club, four of the most successful clubs in Argentina and South American soccer history.

Coverage of the 2021 Copa de la Liga Profesional concludes on May 9 followed by the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final in a straight knockout tournament. Coverage will continue with the 2021 Liga Profesional de Fútbol beginning in July, with additional details to be announced at a later date.

In addition to a limited 30-day free trial that ends March 31, Paramount+ is also offering an annual plan with 50% off your first year when you use promo code YEAR.

Maybe they’re pushing people to watch the half-hour highlights show (the UEFA-produced one that sometimes gets aired later at night on TV) instead? IDK.

@schedules, Those ”highlights” are crap. They don’t even show all the goals. They show 1 goal and that’s it. What will people find when they visit ESPN’s website? The answer in nothing.

@Christopher Harris, Hello Chris, World Cup qualifying started last Wednesday 3/24. There were some great games on ESPN+ & a couple on ESPN3. As of today there are no highlights posted on YouTube. Do you know why ESPN does not upload extended highlights like CBS & NBC do with their respective leagues? There is nothing from ESPN, zero. Did they not pay for them? If I miss a game, I don’t feel like watching a reply. I just want to see the extended highlights. Do you know the answer to this?

Some of the highlights are available here:

It’s possible that ESPN may have forgotten to upload the videos to YouTube, or may have decided to change their strategy and have people visit their website instead of YouTube moving forward.

Fanatiz is dying a considerably fast death. The question for them is will they even be around in 2 or 3 years.

I have their subscription this year but come November I most definitely wont be renewing it.

I love that we only need 2 subscriptions to watch most all Football now. Only big one left is the Premier League and I hope that CBS or ESPN+ to a lesser extent gets it.
