Today, CBS’s Serie A studio show, CALCIO E CAPPUCCINO, debuted on the network. The show will stream on Paramount+ and air on CBS Sports Network. The show will launch at 11:00 AM, ET on Sunday, Sept. 12 from a brand-new studio in the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City.
CBS’s Serie A Studio Show
Analysts on CALCIO E CAPPUCCINO include veteran soccer commentator Matteo Bonetti and Italian-American former professional soccer players Giuseppe Rossi and Mike Grella. Kate Abdo will host, with guest hosts contributing periodically throughout the season. Antonio Cincotta, Christine Cupo, Marco Messina, Fabrizio Romano, Charlie Davies and Aaron West will also contribute to coverage in studio and on-site.
CALCIO E CAPPUCCINO will celebrate the culture and passion of Italian soccer on and off the pitch. The show will offer viewers expert analysis, highlights and breaking news, along with interviews and intimate feature stories exploring the world of Calcio. Studio coverage will be featured around matches across Paramount+ and CBS Sports Network on Sundays throughout the Serie A season. CBS Sports HQ will provide studio coverage on the other days of Serie A action.
As previously announced, Bonetti will also serve as CBS Sports’ lead Serie A match analyst, alongside play-by-play announcer Andres Cordero.
Pete Radovich, CBS Sports’ senior creative director, will be the coordinating producer for CBS Sports’ Serie A coverage. Harold Bryant is executive producer and Executive Vice President, Production, CBS Sports.

KATE ABDO
Abdo brings a wealth of experience covering international soccer’s top events, including the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, FIFA Men’s and Women’s World Cup, as well as CBS Sports coverage of the Concacaf Men’s Nations League and World Cup Qualifiers. She has hosted coverage of the top European leagues for networks in the U.S., U.K., Spain and Germany. She has also hosted some of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in world sports, including the FIFA Ballon d’Or multiple times.
MATTEO BONETTI
Bonetti joined CBS Sports from ESPN where he served as a soccer commentator and analyst for international soccer leagues and marquee international tournaments since 2018. He has also contributed to soccer coverage on ESPN.com and ESPN FC, in addition to working as an announcer for beIN Sport and TNT. This will be Bonetti’s 10th season covering Serie A. Born in Milan, Italy and raised in Miami, Fla., Bonetti is a bilingual Italian American.
ANTONIO CINCOTTA
Cincotta is an Italian soccer coach. He most recently coached Fiorentina Femminile of Serie A for five years, where he won one Serie A title, two Coppa Italia titles and one Supercoppa title, and led the club to multiple appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 16. He now coaches Serie A’s Sampdoria Women.
ANDRES CORDERO
Cordero has called play-by-play for international competitions at the highest levels of the game, including La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Copa Libertadores, World Cup Qualifiers and Africa Cup of Nations. He is currently the play-by-play voice of Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF and is also a member of CBS Sports’ Concacaf coverage.
CHRISTINE CUPO
Cupo is a sports personality and soccer content creator. She hosts and contributes to numerous soccer podcasts, including Total Soccer Show, Juventibus and Fútbol with Grant Wahl.
CHARLIE DAVIES
Davies spent his career playing in Europe with stops at Hammarby in Sweden, Sochaux in France, and Randers in Denmark, before coming to play in Major League Soccer with D.C. United, New England Revolution and the Philadelphia Union. The forward also played for the United States Men’s National Team, representing the United States at the 2008 Olympics as well as the 2009 Confederations Cup which included a matchup against Italy. Davies now serves as an analyst for CBS Sports’ Concacaf coverage, and is also an analyst for Major League Soccer, the New England Revolution and the ACC Network.
MIKE GRELLA
Grella is an Italian-American former professional soccer player who has played for clubs including Leeds United, Brentford FC and Viborg FF. He also won the Supporters’ Shield with the New York Red Bulls and spent time with the Columbus Crew. Grella holds the record for the fastest goal scored in MLS history. He is now with FC Cincinnati in scouting and player recruitment.
MARCO MESSINA
Messina is a sports personality and soccer analyst from Brooklyn, N.Y. He is the founder of Italian Football TV, a digital platform with Serie A highlights and analysis.
FABRIZIO ROMANO
Romano is an Italian journalist and CBS Sports’ Soccer Insider. He acts as the leading journalist in the world specializing in global football transfers. Romano currently is a journalist for Sky Sports Italy and a reporter for The Guardian. He is based in Milan.
GIUSEPPE ROSSI
Rossi is an Italian-American professional soccer player who spent the majority of his career playing with Italy’s Fiorentina and Spain’s Villarreal. He also represented the Italian men’s national team at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, amassing 30 caps in his senior national team career. Rossi received the 2008 Olympics Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer.
AARON WEST
West is a sports personality and content creator who began contributing to CBS Sports’ soccer coverage in 2020. He previously spent time at Turner, FOX and COPA90 as a social producer and on-air personality.

I am starting to get the hang of my self isolating and increased sports consumption. Just to give you an idea of what is involved to consume this past weekends events
1. All access to forums, sporting sites were postponed. Had to wait 2 days before visiting the Rugby Union forum because I didn’t want any spoilers.
2. Live Events Fri – UK Rugby, Sat – Arsenal game, Sat – UK Rugby, Sun – Chelsea game.
3. That left me with a boat load of games that I wanted to watch and some of them are on demand and others since they are in the Southern Hemisphere I have downloaded, didn’t feel like watching at 4am.
I would like to watch the best teams from Serie A as well as the Bundesliga but don’t have the time so I am looking for a decent Highlight arrangement. I regularly watch MOTD & MOTD2 as that is easily available. Some select games like Napoli & Dortmund I will watch live.

I got the feeling that the Bundesliga highlights on ESPN+ were done under the direction of ESPN because of the Interviews, Jude Bellingham, Fossberg, and a few other English speaking players & managers, felt like this was for an American/English speaking audience. I was really disappointed in the Paramount production, because the highlights were literally cut and past from the recorded match.

@Hans, I guess this is where you and I differ. Have almost never made use of replays on ESPN+ or Paramount+.
If I can’t/didn’t see it live I will just check the score and if it seems worth it (lead changes, late goals etc) will check out highlights.
A certain app that may be sort of a competitor with WST links the YouTube league produced highlights for the matches fairly soon after conclusion, so it’s a one stop shop of checking score/highlights
Only two times in my life have I avoided news of a match to watch it later. DVR for one and ESPN+ full match replay for the other.

Paramount+ really has to get their act together like ESPN+ has. Looked for this weekend’s highlights for Serie A and they were abysmal. First of the Inter highlights were not posted at all but the Genoa Highlights were posted twice.
In addition pirating sites can do better jobs of cutting and pasting highlights from the original stream without cutting the audio halfway through a sentence. Their way of putting things together looks like a schoolboy’s work. Furthermore the Calcio E Cappuccino show is not available on demand at least I couldn’t fin it. Have they not gotten the memo we want to watch it when we want not when the network wants it.
Paramount’s home page is in desperate need of a link to sports instead of having to put sports events on my list so that they appear at the top.
Compare that to ESPN+’s Bundesliga highlights, almost an hour of neatly put together highlights with interviews after the game some by English speaking persons others are being translated. ESPN+ feels like professional Paramount+ like a disastrous product made by newbies.

@me, @Ra. Right now on the Bologna match I’m able to pause, rw/ff in 10 second increments with AppleTV (looks like only a short period of time available to go back).

@JP I am also on the wait for the pause/rewind and didn’t have any issues with the stream as well.
Regarding the Italian commentary, I do not speak Italian fluently, but it seemed a disappointment to me. It almost made me fall asleep the other day.
If you want it in Italian, I’d use a radio stream. I was looking for a German game on TuneIn yesterday, but stumbled into an Italian narration for Serie A that seemed pretty good to me.
I’d just go this route. Because the radio stream is usually in front, there shouldn’t be a problem to sync audio with video.
I really wished they did a specific sound at the start of each half to make the sync easier. I was envying the other day seeing how Colbert had the guests say something specific to allow his sound crew to sync the audio stream during the pandemic.

@me, the show was available on the Milan/Lazio March choice. On “Live TV” would say started at 12pm, but if you click that (or go to the Serie A section in Shows) it brings up a choice for live schedule and there it showed the Milan match was already live at 11am (which was the pregame show)

Guessing your issues with the stream are device related. On my AppleTV no issues, in another room using my old Fire Stick and the feed was glitchy at times.

definitely a great idea. i hope the total amount of payroll for cast and crew doesnt sink the show.
that said the app is kinda shit. i watched today at 11am EST and there was no show.
2ndly how do we get the the Italian language commentary feed ?
3rdly stream sucks as you cant pause rewind or record live matches, and Milan v Lazio game went out on me. it just kept rolling its Paramount + screen saver.
idk i cant believe RAI lost the rights… just a shame.

This is definitely a step in the right direction. Kate Abdo, a diehard Manchester United fan, is extremely capable in moderating a show panel. I thoroughly enjoyed her On Paramount+ during their first year of broadcasting the Champions League. A total delight the pre and post game show was. It is one of the reasons I renewed my subscription for the commercial free streaming package especially when you watch it on-demand.

@Raphael, I doubt any of these streaming services bring in much of the casuals for any property. Casual EPL fans will be fine with what NBC or NBCSN show them. People subscribing to ESPN+ likely do so with a specific property in mind.
While someone with Paramount+ or Hulu (since ESPN+ is integrated) who currently don’t care about soccer may stumble upon it and eventually get hooked, suspect that’s a rarity.

From this article it seems this Serie A pregame show will also be on CBSSN though, that has a better chance of grabbing casual sports fans who may then become Serie A fans. Probably won’t become hardcore fans, but at least aware and might check out a some matches during the year.

@JP I would be really curious to see the number of ‘casual viewers’ that Paramount gets on their soccer properties. Especially because it is a streaming service, and you have to navigate to find what you want.
Casual viewers to me are in bars and cable.
Even here in WST, I don’t know what is people’s preference. I would be curious to see an extensive viewer survey.
Paramount did a very comprehensive survey through their ‘Paramount Insider’. Asking about sports, how they watched, the role of story-telling in interest for games, shoulder programming, etc. But obviously, they did not share results with participants.

They may have been better unveiling this on Saturday instead. Soccer is always going to be starved for attention compared to college and pro football, but has a better chance of standing out on Saturday when generally not many marquee games near the noon hour. Instead, they’re going up against the 1st week of NFL when fans are even more prone to take in the hours and hours of morning pregame coverage.

Also, Saturday at noon is the highest profile Serie A matchup of the weekend with Napoli/Juve. Would have been a good lead into the match.
