CBS Sports today announced details of its multi-platform coverage of the 2021-2022 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League Group Stages, with every match streaming on Paramount+ and select matches available on CBS Sports linear channels. Paramount+ will also provide coverage for select UEFA Youth League Group Stage matches featuring the top future stars of the game.

For all UEFA Champions League Group Stage match days, beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 14 and Wednesday, Sept. 15, CBS Sports will provide eight hours of live coverage across its platforms.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TODAY, CBS Sports’ live pre-match, halftime and post-match studio show, will feature host Kate Abdo alongside analysts Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards, Peter Schmeichel and Alex Scott in studio, and joined by Guillem Balagué, Jules Breach and Jenny Chiu reporting on-site throughout the season.

Clive Tyldesley and Peter Drury will serve as play-by-play announcers for CBS Sports’ UEFA Champions League coverage. Drury will team with match analyst Jim Beglin, while Tyldesley will partner with analyst Rob Green.

CBS Sports HQ will begin CBS Sports’ eight hours of live matchday coverage for the UEFA Champions League Group Stage with a pre-match show and end with a post-match show. Analysts Jimmy Conrad, Luis Garcia and Ian Joy will lead CBS Sports HQ’s coverage, along with contributors including Jonathan Johnson, Fabrizio Romano and Christina Unkel, and anchor Poppy Miller.

Yeah Paramount+ really is crap. What’s the point of having every match if they become unwatchable L

Yeah, froze for me on the Brøndy match, and tried Leicester and others and was the same for all Euro League. The Conference matches stayed up

Yes, second major Paramount+ screwup today, Leicester Napoli off the air at 80 minutes 2-1 and completely misses 2-2, it is on Golazo now so you could at least catch the tying goal. Earlier the Tottenham Rennes match stayed unwatchable with glitches and drops all afternoon. Checked it on cellular to rule out that it was my internet and the glitches and drops were at the same times.

Paramount+ froze my feed of the Napoli match around 80minutes! Remembered it was also on Unimas just in time to see the tying goal!

Brøndby v Sparta Prague (yeesh, paying attention to too many matches)

    Brøndby, of course

The vibe at Brøndy v AZ Alkmaar is fantastic. Brøndy is the older & more regular guy side of the Copenhagen clubs (them and FC Copenhagen). Think of them as the West Ham to Chelsea.

30 minutes in and the paramount+ stream of Tottenham is still dropping out and glitchy, every other game and Golazo show are perfect. I’ve switched to an illegal BT Sport stream.

Midtjylland v Ludogorets going fine. Maybe less demand than for the EPL clubs?

Regarding the Golazo show, has it improved this year compared to last? Found it annoying before and haven’t even tried this season. They’d be better off focusing on one main match and then cutting in (split screen or other options) when goals happen in other matches to show the replay. No need for the studio and the constant talking and flipping to different matches.
RAI did it right for Serie A on the 9am Sunday matches. That’s the format they need to copy.

@Travis, the last promo code for Paramount Plus that I saw was one promoting their new movie, it was PAWOFFER , let us know if it still works

    September 15, 2021 at 11:53 am

@Chris You mentioned some time ago that Paramount+ was working on a pause/rr feature. Do you by any chance know anything more? An ETA? I was hoping it would be in time for the UCL, but apparently not.

  23. Travis

    September 15, 2021 at 11:46 am

What in the world? CBS doesn’t upload the Post Match show on Paramount Plus under UCL Specials like they used to?

Chris can you please ask them to do so? Thank you kindly.

They’ve got my money until next February, so it doesn’t really matter, but the lack of DVR controls (particularly a “Start from the beginning” function) definitely diminishes my engagement with the Paramount+ product. Once the Barca-Bayern match lost my interest, I would have liked to have started a different game from the beginning, not with 20 minutes remaining. Instead I just turned off the TV and began doing other things, and maybe I’ll catch the replays later, whenever they’re made available, but that’s a big if. It’s especially egregious as people, you know, tend to work on weekdays and might want to watch in full when they get home at 4:30 or 5.

All right, done ranting! My final point will be that streaming services, when run well, can be great. But when you have these sorts of issues, I’m left longing for the days when these games (at least some of them) could be watched or recorded on TV.

The lack of rewind and pause is ridiculous. But picture quality on AppleTV is great. Can not say the same for my Samsung tablet. It must have pulled the mobile resolution.

    September 14, 2021 at 4:57 pm

@Azer asked “The question is if the games are in Spanish on TV why aren’t they in English? the language that the majority of people speak in the USA”
    .
The data I have seen suggest Hispanic fans 1) account for ~65% of soccer-minutes viewed in the US and 2) overwhelmingly prefer to watch in Spanish when that option is available
    .
I suspect this is at least in part why so many games are OTA on Univision and UniMas. Galavision is their cable overflow with TUDN/xtra and Prende as their streaming overflows

    September 14, 2021 at 4:54 pm

@Nosferatu and @JP. Thanks for your feedback. I’ll try Apple TV as that is one my devices I use. Perhaps it has improved some since last season.

  28. JP

    September 14, 2021 at 4:43 pm

Picture quality is fine on AppleTV, horrible on a Fire Stick. They definitely have issues optimizing to different devices/services.

Chose the stream of Villarreal/Atalanta for the pregam show after ManU ended, was taken to the Benfica match when pregame over. None of the other matches would get me Villarreal until I exited the Live tab and went back in.

20 mins or so into the 2nd half the screen went black and when it returned it was the Chelsea match, had to exit/enter again to get the right stream.

Glitches to be fixed along with the long awaited DVR like functions.

  29. Nosferatu

    September 14, 2021 at 4:35 pm

@Michael, an interesting thing I noticed. I put the Barca v Bayern game on through my LG TV app initially and it was terrible quality, all pixellated, so then I switched to the Roku and it was much better (though still their top picture quality could be better).

I know people are just happy to get all the games on there, but I’m pretty surprised there isn’t more angst toward P+ for these problems that they seem to not care about improving.

Aside from adding pause/rewind etc, Please let me know when the live match video quality improves on Paramount+ Then maybe i will begin to take them seriously.

watching UCL on Unimas is just fine. Don’t even need to pay for Paramount+!

  32. Nosferatu

    September 14, 2021 at 3:41 pm

    David,

Last season replays tended to show up 4-5 hours after the conclusion of many games. It’s a great frustration with P+ to go with their lack of DVR controls–a really bad combination! I’m kind of gobsmacked, actually, that they haven’t improved still.

  33. David the Yank

    September 14, 2021 at 3:20 pm

Wow, now that Peacock has pause & rewind, I’m getting fairly annoyed at P+/CBS. When do they make the replays available? I had a business meeting and I’d like to watch the last 20 mins of the ManU 10v11 game, and it’s still not available!

  34. Ra

    September 14, 2021 at 2:37 pm

Is this the powerful ManU that can’t even beat a team of young boys?

    September 14, 2021 at 10:40 am

I am watching the games on Univision, UniMas and Galavision. Free OTA.

CBS can have all the plans they want, lol. Not interested.

    September 14, 2021 at 10:15 am

TUDN, Galavision & UniMas will televise the UEFA Champions League & Europa League in Spanish.
The question is if the games are in Spanish on TV why aren’t they in English? the language that the majority of people speak in the USA. Does anyone have an answer to this question, other than CBS talking points which I’m not interested in.

The Goal Show on BT Sport is pretty awesome if you have access to that. It’s like Golazzo (stupid name by the way), but way better and your intelligence doesn’t get insulted.

    September 12, 2021 at 10:34 pm

Golazo show is amazing, specially when there’re so many quality matches at the same time. Tuesday at 3 has lille (with Jonathan David the Canadian) vs Wolfsburg , villareal vs Atalanta (with Duvan Zapata and Muriel), Chelsea (the last year champion) vs Zenit (Wilman Barrios), Malmo vs Juventus (Cuadrado, Dibala, Chiesa), Barcelona (let’s see how they play without Messi) vs Bayern (full of superstars, including Lewandowski, Kimich and the canadian Davies).

Cant wait for Tuesday Golazo Show.

  42. Michelangelo

    September 12, 2021 at 10:01 am

The Golazo show should be available not just for the Champions League and the Europa League, but what about the Serie A or qualifiers when multiple matches are being played at the same time. The NFL has Redzone which is very successful so why not create a full football experience for the fans just like EUROPE. Forza Ragazzi.

  43. Tayo

    September 11, 2021 at 12:12 pm

3PM , they should be airing a UCL match, not the Golazo Show… how do they plan to grow the sport if every match is behind a paywall?

    • Christopher Harris

      September 11, 2021 at 12:40 pm

They’re not in the business to “grow the game.” They’re in the business to generate as many subscriptions to Paramount+ as possible.

“with every match streaming on Paramount+ and select matches available on CBS Sports linear channels.”
Comcast/NBC take a lesson from Paramount+ how to broadcast soccer matches.
